We loved the location of the cabin. Could not be more beautiful. We only wish the shower had been updated which I feel would not be too much of a problem on your part. The standing water and the mildew on the very old shower mat was gross. I realize we were here off season but we did pay, like everyone else, and the cabin needs a real good cleaning. After paying for a cleaning service we were a bit insulted to think that we needed to also replace items and clean too.
Most of the items here you could tell were left by previous guests so why would we need to replace them. I know you only want positive reviews but that is very unfair to new guests coming in.
I am from Maine originally and had an older camp in the woods so I know the difference between old and quaint, and a cabin that is unattended by absentee owners.
I have never given a less than perfect review of anywhere We have stayed but I do believe that you are charging way too much money for a place that needs a lot of refreshing inside.
We loved our stay, as the area is lovely, but some things do need to be addressed by you.
Owner's Response: Dear Barbara, we are happy you loved the location and "loved your stay." We are very sorry, however, your vacation was less then perfect, and we'd like to take this opportunity to address your specific concerns.
First and foremost, we wish you had contacted us IMMEDIATELY, instead of using this pubic forum to bring up maintenance issues, after-the-fact. It is very important to us that our guests are comfortable and enjoying their stay, and we would have promptly addressed your issues. As a matter of fact, my husband spoke to you at the cottage on Friday, and after hearing your feedback, offered to send our cleaning woman over immediately, and you declined. He also told you we would most certainly refund your cleaning deposit. At this writing, a plumber has been dispatched to resolve the plugged drain in the shower, which was the cause of standing water and mildew. We also relayed your concerns to the cleaning woman and reviewed her cleaning procedures to make sure the cottage is clean for future guests.
You also mentioned being "insulted" that you had to replace dispensable items (napkins, T.P., etc). This policy is consistent among rental cottages, to assure that the next guest begins their stay with the basics. (We also keep a backup of supplies for the cleaning woman to access in the event items aren't replaced.) As far as cleaning the cottage at the end of your stay, we only ask that you leave the cottage tidy, by doing your own dishes, for example. All deep cleaning is done by us.
Lastly, we were upset that you painted us as "absentee owners" of an unattended cottage. I, too, am a Mainer, and although we don't currently live in Maine full time, my husband and I have worked very hard, during frequent trips to Maine, to continue to update/maintain the cottage, while preserving the authentic cottage feel. And we care very much that our renters are happy and love it as much as we do.
Again, we are sorry you didn't fully enjoy your stay. Best of luck to you in the future.
