About Michael Epperly

I grew up in the Detroit area but spent a good portion of my childhood summers in Northern Michigan. From that experience I always had a dream of someday owning a cottage in Northern Michigan.

Michael Epperly purchased this chalet in 2013

Why Michael Epperly chose Cross Village

I was introduced to the Tunnel of Trees approximately ten years ago and was instantly taken by its uniqueness and natural beauty.

There are many facets to this property. It has a Chalet style home is surrounded by trees yet has great views overlooking the Tunnel of Trees and Lake Michigan. Behind the property is over an acre of unblemished woods with a creek running through it. Property also has private beach access.

What makes this chalet unique

The property is conveniently located for a diverse set of day trips. Aside from touring or biking the Tunnel of Trees, it is a short drive to the Sturgeon Bay (with its dunes), a 30 minute trip to Mackinaw City, and 30 minutes or less to Harbor Springs and Petoskey.

Great Oasis in the Trees

  • 5 of 5

Nicely appointed home away from home high up in the trees overlooking Lake Michigan. Very clean and complete. Owners are available by phone for any questions. We spent a wintry long weekend here, so the beach was a little difficult to navigate because of the ice buildup. Also, most businesses were not open at this time of year. We did do some hiking though and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet, as well as the dvd collection at the home. Cottage is very close to Wilderness State Park and Mackinac Bridge.

We loved it!!

  • 5 of 5

We have rented vacation houses for the last five years in Canada and in US. I was very impressed with the condition of the house: appliances working perfectly, showers with nice pressure, heating working nicely, beds very comfortable, WIFI has good speed, everything clean and well maintained. All details covered.

But all of this is thanks to Michael, who took care of all our needs. When you rent it is important to trust the owner and Michael was not only thoughtful, but also very honest.

It was an amazing week and the house is really great!

Already booked for next year

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at this Cross Village Cottage. The cottage has been fully remodeled and is conveniently located to explore everything from Charlevoix to Mackinaw City. Lake Michigan is a shore walk across the road. The Port of Cross Village offered beautiful sunsets. It is also a short hike to Leggs Inn. And, don't miss the Good Hart General Store--they offer everything from U.S. Postal Stamps to property (it really is the Post Office and a real estate office) with good conversation and food. Wilderness State Park, the lighthouse, and the International Dark Sky Park are must see sites. But once you arrive at the cottage you will not want to leave---it is as advertised: comfortable, well appointed, room for the whole family and more. With plenty of gathering space to enjoy. Can't wait to return for a weekend this Fall to enjoy the color. Great job Mike we hope to return often.

On property

Cross Village is a natural destination point for travelers in Emmet County, as it stands at the northern end of M-119, a state designated Scenic Heritage Route, that extends north from Harbor Springs following the Lake Michigan shoreline. This road is renowned for its natural scenery, particularly the bordering hardwood forests. En route to Cross Village, the traveler passes meadows, occasional panoramic views over Lake Michigan, historic cottages, tree stands that bridge the road in canopy fashion, through Good Hart, and antique shops. The road winds and twists to encourage slow speed and enhance the enjoyment of the scenic tour. While Cross Village is a the terminus of M-119, it is not the end of the road, as Shore Drive continues northeast out of the Township into Bliss Township.
