About Mary Gerhart

. We are a couple that enjoy meeting new people and sharing the peace we experience in rural Bucks County, PA.

Why Mary Gerhart chose Haycock Township

We have owned this property for several years and often thought about sharing the rural peace and tranquility it gives to us. There is something about getting out of from the noise and 'rat race' and coming to the woods for a true rejuvenating Get-Away. Come see for yourself. When is the last time you woke up and everything was calm and peaceful around you?

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you for a lovely evening! The home is so cozy, warm, welcoming and genuine. The details, displays, arrangements and let us not leave out the delicious food and wine to top it all off, Wow! You truly have the perfect touch!!

I do believe we should schedule a weekend---- Sleeps 15, and I promise we will behave, for the most partJ, what fun!

I am positive all will work out, perfect for families looking for that seclusion and local organizations to have retreat weekends, I’d give it a 5 star for charm alone.

Enjoy the holidays!

Perfect gathering place!!

  • 5 of 5
Our daughter graduated from Delaware Valley College- as we live in Maine and wanted a place to reunite with family and friends to celebrate we searched and found the Chalet to be the perfect place. It's location was idyllic - secluded and private yet close enough to easily travel back and forth to Doylestown train station to greet arriving guests. Those who joined in us were in awe of the beauty of the place and there was ample room to sit by the fire, gather around the table and relax on the porch. The foosball table was a hug hit with everyone- young and old. The kitchen was more than adequate to allow us the ability to serve the masses and the fridge large enough to hold the huge quantities of food we had arrived with. Our three days there were filled with wonderful memories we'll treasure forever and have several members of our family dreaming of a return trip to the Chalet. An added bonus was that the owners who were most accommodating and checked in to make sure we had all we needed. Oh, and yes- the beds were more than comfortable and the sound of the multitude of birds that sang to us as we awoke each morning was the perfect way to start each day !!!!!!

The perfect rural getaway

  • 4 of 5
The perfect venue for our large family Thanksgiving. The living room is grand and offered plenty of space to celebrate. Unfortunately, an early snowstorm took out the power and internet lines on Thanksgiving day and we had to cook the turkey on an outdoor grill and all of the sides on the Franklin stove in the living room. It all worked out and the power was restored by mid afternoon. The electric stove, which strangely, did not recover when the power came on, was repaired the following day. We never did get the internet back. The hosts were very helpful, the house was well-stocked with lots of games, and we supplied the liquid entertainment and consequently all enjoyed the adventure, loved the location and would be delighted to have another family event there in the future.

The Best. Amazing. rustic, charming and so homey.

  • 5 of 5
I rented the Chalet for a week to celebrate my Mother’s 80 birthday. We had 4 octogenarians, not an easy fit for a house in the woods. The Chalet was perfect. The house is situated on the most amazing site with a small lake/pond, acres of woods to explore, or just simply a lovely yard to enjoy. My greatest concern was the comfort of the twin beds. I was shocked to discover each of the beds had memory foam toppers along with decent sheets and plenty of extra blankets and pillows. The Chalet is decorated and stocked in a manner that is inviting and homey without pressure-- if you accidentally break something (we did, twice), they understand. It is a home meant to be lived in and appreciated.
So many things were provided; dish soap, garbage bags, aluminum foil, Ziploc bags, salt and pepper/spices, games, puzzles…FIREWOOD. Did I mention the foosball table? There is literally something for everyone.
Mary and Eric are wonderful human beings (no, I did not know them before). They are good, kind, thoughtful and fair people. We continuously invited them over just to enjoy their company. Communication with Mary was easy, clear and open. Good, good, people. I will be returning, for sure.
Now, I can’t help but respond to the insane review by the people who occupied the house before us. This is an OLD house, in the WOODs, of course there are beetles in the windowsills and cobwebs. IWas the house filthy? No. Disgusting? No. Rustic? Youbetcha. I never saw one mouse or any semblance of mice. Then again, we kept the door/screen door shut…as you do…in the WOODS. Seriously...the linens were not folded to your liking? I was happy decent sheets and towels were PROVIDED. As for the Christian paraphernalia —apparently you do not travel often otherwise you would know almoAs for the Christian paraphernalia — just about EVERY hotel in America has a bible in the night stand. This is the not YOUR beautiful house-the owners they decorate and display books they see fit. The title of the website is HOMEAWAY, not “non-secular resorts." Quite frankly, it's a little disconcerting one would be so offended by Chicken Soup for the Soul. So, you rented the house for over a month AND extended your stay. If it was so horrible, why didn’t you leave? Sounds like someone ate all the food on their plate and now wants a refund. Bad form...bad bad form.

Owner's Response: This birthday celebration was one -of-a-kind. Nothing makes one smile more than seeing several generations come together and celebrate a life that has left their hand print on others lives. It was a blessing to see family members come from a far to celebrate and re-connect.

FAMILY is a 6 letter word that has great depth and this FAMILY has the blessing of loving, caring and enjoying each other.

They gathered around the table doing puzzles, sharing stories and knitting blankets for people in wheelchairs. They laughed ,baked and made AMAZING COMFORT FOOD.... (My husband fell in love with the cook).

We never know when our last day will be on this earth, but seeing this family celebrate one another and the memories they share, was a great experience to witness. Thanks for coming and come back soon!!!

Dirty, mice and broken shower

  • 1 of 5
The house was cluttered with Christmas decorations (in August) and was unclean (thousands of beatles in the window frames, cob webs, ex..). There were mouse droppings in the drawers with the silverware and in the beds. The vacuum was from the 1950's, so we couldn't even attempt to use it. There was an obvious rodent infestation. The shower upstairs was broken and the linens were tossed in the closet carelessly. There was Christian parafanalia all over the house, which is completely inappropriate when renting out your house through a secular agency. Overall, for the price, not up to standards at all. We should have been refunded a great deal of money given the fact that the house was not in move in condition and that we required having a cleaner, plumber and exterminator come through the house while on our vacation. We rented the home for over a month had to extend our trip for a few days. The owner wanted to charge us a premium rate of $175 a night, even after all we put up with (which we declined). Also, the house is "not nessled alone on 40 acres in the woods," but rather sits right behind the owner's home, which is conversely immaculately maintained. Buyer beware!!!

Owner's Response: I am extremely grateful that HomeAway allows a response for comments like above. Where to begin. I find it interesting that the day these people left to go back to their "city "home in Spain, there last words to me were "Thank you and when we come back to the states again, we would love to stay here". So with that, allow me to rebuttal their critical, mean review:
The house was built in 1938, along with charm of older homes you do have other issues that you face. We pay for an exterminator to come quarterly OR when needed. This family never lived in the woods, which this home is on 2000 acres of wooded land. The first two weeks of their visit, they left their doors wide open. They are lucky that only a few mice came in and not squirrels, skunks, raccoons or possums. Naturally, when the nights get cool, the animals seek warmth. As soon as they called, I had someone at the house. We offered to put them up in a hotel for two nights while the house was cleaned, but they said it wasn't that bad, they would not need to do that. The exterminator put down glue traps, we covered all the vents and cleaned up the droppings for them. (Since the contract stated, that they where to keep the house clean while they stayed.) They thanked us and said the house was very clean and they had no more mice problems. The sweeper is an older Electrolux , which we love and when we get it serviced, the man says how great they are..so why get a new one? They could have asked for help, if they couldn't figure out the sweeper...but they didn't. The shower broke while they where there, and again we had the plumber out right away. (There's 2 showers in the house.) The part was ordered and fixed ASAP. These are things out of our control, but we take care of them ASAP.
When they left, our home was completely trashed. They where slobs. It has taken us three times the amount of time to clean up after them. They turned our house upside down. They re-arranged mattresses ,beds, moved rugs and furniture and piled them on the porch. They ruined the top of our Foosball table. They broke outlet covers and there was trash all over the lawn.. Oh, as far as them not liking our decorating taste, it's a vacation home, get over it. They sure loved staying here when they wanted their little girl to play on our swings or with our toys,... WARNING!!!!! Do not rent to these folks, they are nothing but trouble and very ungrateful.

Family wedding meeting spot

  • 5 of 5
We had a family wedding and we had family members coming from various locations. We wanted a space where we could all comfortably gather. This place couldn't have been more perfect. It fit our whole family of 14. There was plenty of parking for our vehicles plus extra parking for the RV that arrived with the remaining family members. The outside grounds were gorgeous and wonderful for keeping the little ones occupied. Everything we needed in a kitchen was provided, which isn't usually the case at rentals. Everyone truly enjoyed our stay here.

Spacious coziness! :)

  • 5 of 5
The chalet was a wonderful place to hold our retreat! It provided specious coziness....space for our large group to meet, yet plenty of cozy rooms for break out sessions and personal meeting space. (The on-site masseuse was a pleasant perk!). All our attendees were impressed with the serene setting, perfect for walks and quiet space and/or large spaces for games and food! Mary's well supplied kitchen made meal time easier. And Mary? You cannot find a more hospitable hostess! :)
