Thanksgiving in the Mountains

We booked this location Weds-Sunday of the Thanksgiving break. Our youngest daughter attends college nearby & had to stay in the area over the break for athletics. The property is well represented as listed. It isn't a luxury hideaway but is a cozy place for a family getaway without worrying that you might break something, We thought the inside was nicer than we had expected (roomier). The amenities met all our basic needs. The location is secluded and there was plenty of opportunity for rest, relaxation and family time. There is a land line phone if you must reach someone or they need to reach you, which is good as the location is remote enough that cell coverage is spotty & internet isn't an option. This forced us and our 18-31 y/o daughters to actually take time off work & school and interact :-0) We enjoyed the outdoor area, the cozy fireplace & watched movies on the DVD while playing cards. There was an oven, stove, fridge & microwave that made preparing homemade meals (including Thanksgiving Dinner) an a great option. We had all the basic pots and pans needed & more importantly a coffee maker & a tea kettle to start out each morning. We don't mind washing dishes by hand so no dishwasher wasn't a biggie. 1 bathroom presented a few challenges for 4 adult women & 1 adult male but we made it work. Having a washer & dryer on hand was great too. I returned home without a ton of dirty laundry-always a blessing! We were about 40 minutes from Golden and about 20 minutes from Idaho Springs or Evergreen. The Denver Airport was just about an 60-70 minutes away. Zip Lining, hiking, rock climbing, skiing, shopping, etc were all close enough by to enjoy without being in the middle of the city. Families with active kids would LOVE this place as wondering around the pine trees, exploring the rocky areas and collecting pine cones was an adventure. We didn't use the fire pit as there was a burn ban in effect but the area looked great & was well maintained. I thought it was well worth the asking price and far better than a cramped hotel room for a family of 5! Debbie called & checked on us the day of arrival and helped us feel welcome. As a Flat-lander from TX the winding mountain road was very manageable. It was a 2 lane, paved road that was tree-lined so no white knuckle driving up the mountain. What a relief! We hope to come back & enjoy the cabin again as our daughter is only a freshman. We'd love to hang out & check out the summer activities nearby in the future
