Would you like to visit a place where you have the chance to observe otters, squirrels, alligators, deer, raccoons, woodpeckers, blue herons, hummingbirds, cormorants, fish, and many other species of Florida wildlife in their natural habitats? And, you can do this from the comfort and safety of an observation deck or dock over the river.
If you prefer, you can just sit on the screened porch overlooking the beautiful St. Marks River and soak up the peaceful solitude of a completely unspoiled environment. As the sun goes down, you will be captivated by the rhythmic melodies of the frogs and crickets, guaranteed to soothe your soul.
This is our second stay here and we know we will be back again. We so appreciate the beauty and natural setting of this place. In our two visits here, we have enjoyed seeing deer, owls (right outside our windows) and numerous Florida birds hanging out on the river.
Description: Our hosts Floyd and Carolyn were attentive and available to our needs. The Seinyard restaurant has definitely become one of our favorite places to eat (awesome food) and we make sure we visit it every time we are blessed enough to come back to visit.
Thank you Floyd and Carolyn for sharing your Retreat

This place is amazing! We have fallen in love with the breathtaking and extremely relaxing environment.
The jumping fish were hysterical! However, the cows walking in the river topped the fish. The house was perfect and had every thing we needed.
Thank you so much for an amazing weekend. We will be back!

Description: Well, what can we say except the location was superb. The interior design is a testament to all your hard work and imagination. Spotlessly clean. So tranquil and relaxing sitting on the dock in the morning.
The beds are some of the most comfortable we have had the pleasure to sleep in. The nighttime chorus (of the crickets and frogs) is something we will always remember. Great fun trying to catch the uncooperative mullet in the river, but we did catch one at the Seinyard restaurant and it was mind blowing.
So, Floyd and Carolyn, thank you very much for a wonderful Retreat.
“Haste ye back”

What an awesome experience! Our accommodations were unsurpassable, and, to say the least, our trip was a success.
Now that we found you it goes without saying you’ll be stuck with us and our soon-to-be FSU student. We’ll be seeing you again.

Description: We really enjoyed our stay at the St. Marks Retreat. We paddled our canoes on the St. Marks, Sopchoppy, Wacissa and Aucilla rivers. All lovely. Tons of birds, otters, alligators and turtles. We also went hiking at Leon Sinks and biking on the St. Marks Trail.
This cabin is delightful- quiet, peaceful and very clean. There are more rivers and trails to enjoy, so we will be back.

Floyd, it has been a pleasure meeting you and staying at the St. Marks Retreat. After working 11 years in the hotel industry, I have to say this is the cleanest and one of the best decorated properties I have ever seen. The nature and river next to the Retreat is good for mind, soul and body.
The St. Marks Retreat is the Best!

We were planning a visit to Tallahassee to visit our daughter who had just moved there. It was FSU vs UF football weekend and hotel prices were outrageous. We decided to look on VRBO and found this property and decided to have the four of stay here for Thanksgiving. This was a great choice. The property is quiet, peaceful, on a lovely river, very well appointed, and only 25 minutes from the city. Floyd and Carolyn were easy to communicate with and we enjoyed meeting Floyd upon our arrival. Everything was in great order. Their description of things to do and places to eat is very humorous and very helpful. Don't miss the Seinyard Seafood Restaurant. They also introduced us to Woody and Kathy who give kayak tours on the river and that was thoroughly enjoyable and we would highly recommend this trip. Woody and Kathy were great fun to be with and great guides. If you are looking for a relaxing, well equipped place to stay for four, near but outside the city, this is a great place. There is a lot to do in the area and make certain you read Floyd and Carolyn's recommendations.
We stayed for recent FSU parents weekend. Very nice, quiet and comfortable. away from the hustle bustle of Tallahassee yet only a short drive to town. Can't wait to go back and enjoy the solitude! Floyd and Caroline are very nice and accommodating.
We were hooked when we viewed the on-line photos, but until you are actually at the cabin you can't appreciate just how special this place is. We sat on the screened in porch the first evening, but were overwhelmed the next morning when the mist was rising from the river and the sun came up over the trees. There are neighbors, but you can't see them, you can sit on the dock in your PJ's but get to a grocery store within 10 minutes. The Tallahassee-St Mark's Bike Trail and St Mark's NWR both can be accessed within 15 minutes. We found a fish market in Panacea and cooked every meal at the cabin, the kitchen having all that was needed. We even made apple pie from scratch.
Although there is cable TV and WiFi, it felt like turning on a TV in church! Why would you interrupt natures songs.
Floyd and Carolyn, the owners, were so kind in giving us all that we needed to have a special time, from where to do laundry to a shortcut to the St. Mark's Lighthouse. We were especially thankful for being introduced to kayak Green Guides, Woody and Kathy. We thought viewing the river from the cabin was wonderful, but we were in for a treat viewing everything from the river. They are both native Floridians who love their river and were so knowledgeable and allowed us to move from one side of the river to the other to get up close to turtles, birds and fish. So whether you are a proficient kayaker or a beginner put them on your list. It really added to our stay. And if you forget your camera, don't worry, Kathy will upload the trip pictures so you can share the experience w friends.
Thank you for sharing such a special place. Judith and Jack, Knoxville TN
This was a perfect place to stay. Deer in the yard, fish in the river. Pictures look great but when you get there you find it much better than you imagined! Very clean and had everything we needed. Floyd and Caroline are wonderful people and very accommodating. You will really miss a great experience if you don't stay here!
Bringing our oldest son to FSU for his freshman year, we decided to make a family vaca out of it. So glad we stayed here! Floyd and Carolyn are wonderful, gracious hosts, and the cabin is amazing! Unbelievably peaceful and relaxing. We saw deer from the deck, manatees and other water life from the dock, and hummingbirds from the porch. Ahhh, the porch-our favorite place! Board games at the large picnic table, relaxing, laughing, reminiscing and just enjoying family time in the overstuffed chairs and porch swing- in our "normal" lives, it's hard to get everyone together for more than a couple of minutes. Even tried our hand at fishing from the dock w/ the poles on the porch-quite hilarious-had to buy dinner-but it was fun. The cabin had everything needed for a family of four, beds are very comfortable, good water pressure (that's a biggie w/ me), and you can actually get COLD water from the tap-unheard of in Sarasota in August. We will definitely be back! Thank you Floyd and Carolyn, for a wonderful send-off for Zachary, and a wonderful family vacation!
This is our second trip to St. Marks retreat. What a beautiful place to relax and get in touch with your inner-self!
The cabin is cozy, secluded and has all the comforts of home. It is generously supplied with everything you need. We enjoy grilling out on the gas bar-b-que. We love the screened in porch and enjoy being serenaded by the birds as we drink our morning coffee.
Carolyn and Floyd are gracious hosts and wonderful people. They supply you a book listing all the things in the area to do. The book is not only informative but very humorous!!
FYI--if you are in the mood for barbque, be sure to stop and eat at Dickeys Barbque Pit in Woodville. The food is incredible and the service great.
For those with an adventurous spirit, the Retreat is within short driving distance of hiking and biking opportunities at the St Marks Wildlife Refuge, Tom Brown Park and the St. Marks bicycle trail.
The Retreat is located on the St. Marks River about 25 minutes from downtown Tallahassee, Fl. The environment is wild and completely natural. Wildlife commonly seen in the area include deer, alligators, wild turkeys, manatees, otters, many types of birds, fish and racoons. There are several good restaurants within 20 minutes of the Retreat.
