About Laurie Punches

My name is Laurie.

I am an author, artist, musician and mom.

The log cabin is my get-away where I write my books and movies. Its my refuge, my home away from home and my heart.

As a child, I saved a scrapbook of pictures of my dream home...

and the first moment I saw our cabin, I knew this was IT!

The smell of pines and being a minute stroll to the beach is my favorite part of being in Tahoe.

My desire is to share a yesteryear, nostalgic, homestead restored with all the fascinations of modern comfort without compromising its ambiance has come true. The hand-made, authentic, cozy log cabin duplex, boasts of spaciousness, yet intimate for two which meets my needs for alone time to create and family time to build memories. I have been coming to this log cabin for over 20 years and it still holds me captive with it's beauty.

Dreamt and believed all my life that someday I would live in a log cabin up in the mountains on a lake. Dream came realized more than vividly true, I feel BLISSFUL! :)))

Laurie Punches purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Laurie Punches chose Al Tahoe

It is everything I dreamt of.

An authentic, home-made mountain cabin in the pines...

a few steps from the sandy beach,

yet near enough to the city and all its activities, that I can be away from the noise and hustle and bustle, but skiing, shopping, gambling within 5 minutes.

Hand-made of the most beautiful trees from Canada.

Original owner owned the original Tahoe wood mill, and hand made all the paneling, roof, doors and details. It took 5 years to build, while a whole subdivision in the neighborhood was built. The quality and uniqueness of everything about this cabin is beyond my wildest imagination. I feel swept up in a fairytale everytime I stay, and am sad to leave... and can't wait to get back!

What makes this cabin unique

seriously? EVERYTHING!!!!

The full cabin experience. The rock floors, shag carpets, granite counters, rock hewn sinks, lodge pole banisters, huge log beams and vaulted ceilings make the cabin ageless, yet pampering.

Good location, nicely furnished

  • 5 of 5
This cabin was very nice, and as advertised. The furnishings (sofas, tables, kitchen equipment, beds, bathrooms) were all fairly new and in good shape. The owner obviously went to a lot of trouble to decorate the place in keeping with the "rustic" feel of a log cabin--yet inside it had all the modern conveniences. I would stay there again if I'm ever back in
Tahoe.

Owner's Response: I treasure knowing that you liked the feeling of rustic pampering of our log cabin
and that you would stay again, if you came back. Your expressed appreciation means so much!

Traditional Log Cabin

Lovely quirky log cabin with great amenities, including washer and dryer. We are a family of 4 and loved our stay here. Laurie, the owner, is a lovely person who genuinely cares about her guests having a great stay. It was easy to book, easy to get the

Owner's Response: I love the word 'quirky'. A hand-made log cabin is not a typical 'box'.
The wood has knots, partial branches and bark and nothing is square…
door, windows, cupboards all custom. The funnest part about the log cabin
is the adventure and memories of contained in these walls that each of you
contribute to the richness and deep beauty it holds for many. Thanks!

Cozy yet spacious, Charming yet updated...

  • 5 of 5
My mother, daughters, and I took a last minute ladies getaway to the snow. I was excited but skeptical to find this cabin online. Visiting in person did not disappoint and provided many pleasant surprises. This cabin is a true gem. The owner and manager are both kind sweet women who are a pleasure to work with. Our stay can best be summed up by the poem my daughters (ages 9 & 6) left in the guest book...

We loved the stay
We don't want to go away
We want to come another day
We loved it in every way...

Owner's Response: I absolutely love the innocent and celebrative poem that was left on the guest book.
Thank-you for the raw, and real reservations one might have while looking for a vacation home, and hopes, passions and dared dreams met… while staying at the cabin!

Perfect place, perfect location and perfect price

  • 5 of 5
Cozy log cabin with great amenities. Perfect location. Not so close to town that you feel like you're in the city, but close enough that everthing's a stones throw away. Easy walk to the lake and on a quiet street. The kitchen was outstanding. Very cozy and comfortable. Just a great place and the price is unbeatable.

Owner's Response: I fell in love with the location... and then I fell in absolutely in love with our log cabin.
I like being in a quiet neighborhood just a two minute stroll to the lake…
and the kitchen is one of my favorite places in the cabin because it is
part of the living room with the glow of the wood burning stove.
The cabin does seem like "a stone's throw away" from the casinos, shops and gondola… . Thank-you for the beautiful synopsis of our log cabin!

Wonderful Log Cabin in South Lake Tahoe

  • 5 of 5
My family and family friends had a wonderful stay in this truly amazing log cabin. It is 3 minutes walk to the lake in a quiet neighborhood, and easy access to slope. The picture does not tell the full story and it is much spacious than it looks. The authentic decoration makes it cozy with old world charm. This is a true "LOG" cabin and kids loved it! Laurie is helpful and pleasant to deal with. Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: I am so thankful for my first renters ever, in my new vacation rental this month.
The Log Cabin is my favorite get-away, and I love that others cherish this rare
experience too! A "lakeview" from the bedroom windows, with lake breezes
ads to the "log cabin on a lake, (well 1/2 block), in the mountains" feeling.
Thanks for taking the time to write a beautiful review.
