Our Ohana has a king bed in the large bedroom as well as a single bed/couch and a single canopy bed in the living space, which is an elegant piece of furniture. The house was recently renovated and has stainless appliances and beautiful views of the surrounding hills. The ohana is attached to the main house by an outdoor laundry area. The two houses share a .6 acre lot. Outside there is a gazebo with stairs to a roof deck where you can sit and watch the sunset, or sit below out of the sun. There is a large yard, developing fruit trees, lemons and apples. Mauna Kea is clearly seen from the yard. We are beside Church row and the graveyard and it is quiet and beautiful. The bathroom has a shower and tub, new toilet and floor. The outdoor laundry facilities are available and are shared with the main house.
We chose Waimea because it is a great place for kids and the weather is not too hot. A short drive brings you to beaches, surfing, whales.
We are Canadian and came here for a change. I am a writer, my husband is a director. We grew up in Montreal and Sudbury, Canada. We love to travel. My husband works all over the world and we have a short film.
When we first came to Hawaii, it was because my husband worked in Australia and this was his stopover. I joined him on Oahu. Then we started visiting regularly. Soon, I needed a house and we chose this one because we could renovate it and make it beautiful.
We have just finished renovating the main house so we can now rent the Ohana.
We have created gardens and try to keep the wild turkeys from eating our lettuce and bok choy. There are also herbs growing all around, which you can use.
I think we chose this property because of its size, it has a remarkable lot which lines a graveyard and this makes it feel even larger and more private. I love looking at the sky and Mauna Kea and the fact that we can walk so many places. Weather; breezy and fresh
Our town is a 20 minute drive from Hapuna Beach, largest on the Big Island and consistently rated top 10 of International Beaches. The Ohana is beside our house and private. There is an outdoor laundry room between the houses and a row of trees.
Ohana is surrounded by large grass yard, covered gazebo and trees, view of Mauna Kea and beside historic Church Row. You can walk to 2 shopping areas. Local markets on Saturday, one of them walkable. On Wednesday, another market in historic Paniolo Building (walkable)
Kamuela is about half way between Hilo and Kona so it is a great place to venture out from, weather not too hot and sometimes an afternoon shower, though not always. Neighbors have .5 to 1 acre lots around the house. Quiet, away from town enough.
