We really enjoyed our time here last summer! This is a nice, cozy little home on a quiet street that is close to the beach. It also has a small run-around park at the other end of the road that our kiddos enjoyed going to. The owner was so kind and helpful. We'd definitely stay here again.
We took our family of 6 last minute for Spring Break to Cannon Beach (Our Favorite) There wasn't much available for our price range we were wanting to spend. We felt this place was a great spot for our little family. Great location to walk just about anywhere including the beach just a short walk down the street. Comfortable beds, slept everyone just fine. Fully stocked kitchen. When the owner realized the coffee pot was missing he sent a new one over. There were minor things like the vacuum putting off a weird smell when I'd vacuum but nothing that would keep us from staying here again. Ed was great to work with over the phone. There wasn't anything that wasn't disclosed ahead of time such as the front door being kind of sticky, how to turn on heater etc...that would have bothered me otherwise. We really enjoyed our stay overall.
We have stayed many times in or near Cannon Beach over the years and found this spot by chance last year (we have booked again for 2014). The location is ideal - very close to Haystack and town. With young teens, this spot is ideal as they can roam but stay close enough to monitor. The place is cozy with all the amenities you need and the owner is very responsive. Considering the price of similar locations in Cannon Beach in summer, Illahee Cottage is an incredible value.
The cottage is in a good location... 2 block walk to the beach and 5-6 blocks to either end of town. It's an older place that has been recently repainted; rusty paint pan was still in the backyard along with some other debris. Back deck could use a good power-washing and resealing, along with replacement of rusty chicken wire. I'm sure it's hard to maintain that stuff in a rainy climate. Photos are accurate except the blue bedroom is way smaller than I expected. It's the width of a Queen bed + a twin bed + 1 foot. They had to choose between floor space and an extra bed, so just be aware... extra sleeping space but no dresser in that room. (There is a closet and some built in wall shelves that contained some old magazines and a disassembled lamp.) The other room's dresser and nightstands had random items in them--including some clothing--but we just tossed it all into one drawer and got on with our vacation.
Cable and Internet worked fine. Fat-not-flat TV but lots of channels including music. Comfy/eclectic furniture.
They didn't photograph the carport with a missing roof panel or the fact that the front door doesn't function. Also, there was a lot of food in the refrigerator, a lot of which wasn't so fresh (like old butter and expired condiments). Otherwise, the kitchen was well stocked, including utensils, staples like oil, sugar, and spices, and appliances like coffeemakers/toaster. The vacuum cleaner didn't work well, and emitted a scary bad smell, thus limiting my vacuuming activity, but hey, I was on vacation.
The owner didn't know a lot about the condition of the house (carport roof, broken lamp, etc.) so if you have issues be sure to take photos, because he isn't local, and there were some issues regarding the condition of the house at the end vs. the beginning. We've didn't file a formal complaint, but it definitely soured the end of the vacation.
Town is cute, FISHES is an excellent sushi place, and the market (north of the house) is very well stocked.
This beach cottage is perfectly located to provide a wonderful Cannon Beach vacation experience. The home is clean and comfortable, and the listing description is completely accurate. The beds are comfortable; the kitchen is well-stocked for eating in; and the beach is close enough to listen to the surf through an open window as you fall asleep. It is an easy walk to Haystack Rock or the downtown area.
I recommend the Ecola Seafood Restaurant and Market for the best fish-n-chips in town; and you can buy the fresh catch of the day at the counter and take it home for dinner. Dooger's Seafood and Grill is well-priced and the clam chowder is not to be missed. In the summertime, look for the Farmer's Market to scoop up some fresh Peaches and Rainier Cherries for the perfect compliment to breakfast.
