Maggie Valley Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Private 1.5 Acre Mountain Estate Overlooking Maggie Valley

The Alpine House is a log cabin perched on the side of Setzer mountain almost to the top and just across the road from the Cataloochee Ski Resort! The views are breathtaking and the cabin is a quintessential mountain cabin--log walls, vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors on the upper level, and a huge balcony overlooking the valley. The upper floor has a large great room with wood stove, dining area and kitchen all open and vaulted. There is a large master suite with access to the balcony and a bath with tile shower. This was our personal home for the first year we lived in Maggie Valley and we just love it! We recently completed a large deck on the forest side of our home which is like a tree house with hot tub, the same great view as the house, plus a table and chairs for outdoor dining. There is a fire pit for a nice outdoor fire while you relax in the hot tub! Or just sit out and soak in the warm southern sun from an uncovered part of the deck. Take a hike through the woods if you're in the mood, or enjoy the gameroom on the lower level with pool table, stereo, piano, tv, and other games. There is a small flat screen tv downstairs and a larger one upstairs--both are hooked to satellite tv for your enjoyment. Also downstairs is another sleeping area with queen bed plus full bath. There is a utility room with washer/dryer and a daybed which could possible accommodate one or two additional children, but we think that would be a bit too crowded! There is a one car garage as well, with a ping pong table. High speed internet via dsl is available, plus cell coverage is good. There are no visible neighbors and you will feel like king/queen of the mountain. The road to our house is gravel, somewhat steep, but wide and generally in good condition. Access in winter may require 4WD and/or chains during heavy snow or ice. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A NON-SMOKING PROPERTY AND UNSUITABLE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN DUE TO IT'S 4000 FT. MOUNTAINSIDE LOCATION. IT IS AN IDEAL ROMANTIC MOUNTAIN RETREAT FOR A COUPLE, ALTHOUGH THE QUEEN BED IN THE GAMEROOM WILL ACCOMMODATE 2 ADDITIONAL PEOPLE, AS WILL THE DAY BED (2 SINGLES) IN THE UTILITY ROOM.

. Also note that if this cabin is booked we have another great property at Lake Junaluska (3562775) only a few miles away which has easier access and is a bit larger.

About Jim and Carroll Grant

Carroll and Jim have worked in healthcare as RNs for many years. Carroll is a master gardner and takes care of the house decor as well as the flowers in the yard. Jim has a nutritional consulting business and is presently writing his first novel. We are originally from Louisiana and Texas respectively and met on the west coast in Washington state. We enjoy traveling, photography, and outdoor activities, which is what attracted us to Western North Carolina. We love the 4 seasons here and enjoy the coolness of the summers! Our two rental properties take up a good bit of our time (see our Lake Junaluska property #3562775) as we personally care for each one. All our guests are special to us and we hope to make each person's time here very special and as enjoyable as it possibly can be.

Jim and Carroll Grant purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Jim and Carroll Grant chose Maggie Valley

We wanted a home at a high enough elevation so that we could enjoy fresh air in the summer without air conditioning. Having been raised in the southwest, we fled from the heat, and now enjoy the pristine mountain air, water, and natural beauty! WNC is perfect for our likes--lots of outdoor activities, no big city congestion, yet all we need within a 35 mile radius. Asheville is great for bigger city sort of things--airport, major shopping, Whole Foods Market, etc., but we find Waynesville to be a great little mountain town that gives us a feeling of community and belonging. There is very little that we need that isn't available to us there.

What makes this cabin unique

The Alpine House renews your spirit--you feel like you're looking down on the world from your mountain perch! The woods around the home are home to all sorts of wildlife (you might even see an occasional black bear!) and provide a peaceful setting to complement the great views. We like privacy, and this cabin certainly offers that--you will feel like you are the only person on the mountain once you arrive here. We have added as many conveniences as we can to make your stay enjoyable--from the hot tub overlooking the valley, to the high speed internet just to remind you that there is another world out there somewhere! You can watch your favorite TV shows, sporting events, and even play a game of billiards or ping pong if you like. Nature is ever present here and you may choose from a variety of outdoor activities to suit your mood and interests. If you're into gambling or big city events they are a short drive in either direction (east or west) from our home. There is just something about a log cabin in the mountains that will speak to your spirit and invite you to return again and again whenever you need a break from the everyday stresses of your regular existence. We know you will leave here refreshed and glad you visited Das Alpine Haus!

Wow. What a fantastic cabin!

  • 5 of 5
What an incredible cabin. Most cabins, while nice enough, do not quite live up to the pictures accompanying their listings. In this case, the pictures do not quite live up to the real thing.

The view is absolutely wonderful. The cabin sits near the top of the mountain and overlooks Maggie Valley perfectly. You get a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding mountains as you sit out on the back deck. In the mornings, the sunrise is a straight shot from the back of the cabin. You can literally wake up to the sunrise while laying in bed.

The cabin itself is a gem as well. It was immaculate when we arrived and Jim was a wonderful host. It has beautiful hardwood floors, all wood interior walls and every amenity you could possibly need during your stay. This is not your regular cabin rental. I truly felt like I was a guest in someone's home.

We will definitely be back! Thanks again for the lovely vacation.

Peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5
The home was fabulous, located where every day produced post card quality memories. All of the home's amenities were top of the line (grill, hot tub, pool table, etc). The home was clean and well-maintained. Jim and Carroll pointed us to the best dining and activities that fit our desires (hiking, walking, music). I HIGHLY recommend this mountain home. It allowed us to easily relax in an unbelievably peaceful environment. We'll be back!

Seein is believing!

  • 5 of 5
The photos that Carol and Jim posted, while beautiful, do not do justice to the awe inspiring, 180 degree view from the deck outside of the bedroom, kitchen, and living room! I came for the view, arguably the best Smoky Mountain view that I’ve experienced over the years, for my annual birthday pilgrimage! The cabin is beautifully appointed with every amenity one could want, including a well stocked kitchen. **Side note: I’ve been to cabins where we had to bring/buy salt and pepper.** We brought our blender, but they had one; I forgot the ‘PB’ for our late night PB& J snack, but they had some; and we brought our robes, but they had those too! It was almost like visiting friends and staying in their guesthouse (cabin), except you have complete privacy when you don’t feel like being bothered. This was our first time using VRBO. Jim and Carol made the experience easy and enjoyable. It was a pleasure to get to know them as well.

Helpful Hints:
1. Don’t bother with bringing breakfast staples. Just go down the mountain and eat at Joey’s Pancake House--just about THE BEST pancakes of your life--no joke! Make sure you get there early to avoid a wait.

2. For down home southern food, head over to the Blue Rooster Southern Grill, in the next town over (Clyde). It’s quaint, unpretentious, reasonably priced, and most importantly, they serve good food! It was only a 10-minute drive once you get down the mountain.

3. Did I mention the cabin is on a mountain? Not just on a mountain, but on TOP of a mountain! While it was certainly worth it, the drive up there is not for the faint of heart (meaning me). It is a winding, steep, narrow, gravel road. Make sure to get there in the daytime with a small, powerful, vehicle with good tires and brakes! Thankfully, my Hunny did ALL of the driving, without any signs of fear, but then he’s a cool headed IT guy who pilots small planes for fun…yeah he’s that guy! I don’t think he noticed the fingernail impressions that I left on the passenger door of his car (shhh, don’t tell him).

Thanks for sharing a beautiful cabin home to reconnect with the Creator and each other. We’re looking forward to returning next year! We definitely recommend this property for your next getaway too!

Peace and blessings,

Carl and Michelle

Perfect Cabin Getaway, Photos Don't Do it Justice!

Perfect Cabin Getaway, Photos Don't Do it Justice!
  • 5 of 5
The cabin was beautiful, updated, and extremely clean. The decor is charming and cozy, surroundings are quiet and peaceful. Some of the extras included a pool table, chess board, jacuzzi, propane grill, keyboard, rocking chairs, fire pit - all fantastic and with an incredible view. The photos don't do this place justice, it's stunning.

The cabin is very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Smoky Mountains National Park, easy access to Waynesville and Asheville as well. The jacuzzi was the perfect, quiet place to relax after a long day of hiking.

The owners were very generous and knowledgeable, provided everything we needed, lots of great recommendations, and were even available when we had questions during our stay.

We don't usually visit places more than once, but we'd definitely stay here again. If you're looking for a secluded cabin with a great view and all of the amenities you could want, this is it.

Thanks Jim and Carol!

Wonderful Stay at Mountainside Cabin

  • 5 of 5
After you stop gazing at the gorgeous view, this cabin high up in the Smokey Mountains has so much you won't want to leave, There is a hot tub, pool table, ping pong, well equipped kitchen and roomy deck over looking the valley, We woke to cool clean mountain air and it stayed comfortable into the night. Access to the Blue Ridge Parkway is nearby but if you do decide to head down to civilization, Asheviille is less than an hour away. Our host could not have been more helpful or accomodating.
