We have lived on Lopez Island since 1996. We enjoy boating, gardening and hiking in this island paradise. We live on the same property as the cottage, yet because the cottage is set into the hill below the house, it feels very separate & private.
Lauren Stephens purchased this cottage in 2006
We built the cottage in 2006 on the site of a pre-1930 cabin that was grandfathered in and meant we could rebuild right at the water's edge. Although the cottage is small, it is beautifully designed, with the feel of being on a boat.
This unique location allows all the amenities of being in the Village, with a very private feel.
We wanted a quiet, peaceful getaway and this ON-the-bay cottage delivered! As each day faded, we kicked our shoes off, opened up a bottle of wine and watched the gentle bay slowly change hues as the sun sank beyond the horizon. After a day exploring the island's many nearby natural attractions -- Spencer Spit, Iceberg Point, Watmough Bay -- we would return "home," sink into the comfortable furnishings and extend a toast to our good fortune in finding this one-of-a-kind property. A short walk away, we enjoyed the Love Dog Cafe, shopped at the Lopez Market and purchased delectable, drinkable souvenirs from the Lopez Island Vineyard. All in all, the Bay Inlet Beach Cottage is the perfect week-long escape for the weary traveler. We hope to make the trek from Iowa to this island gem again and again.
For the second year in a row, we had an amazing trip to the Bay Inlet Beach Cottage for the July 4 holiday. The house is perfect - gorgeously rebuilt, efficient sized, and perfectly located - as the only house on the beach, you have tons of privacy, but walk up the steps and you're right in the middle of town! Easy access to coffee, ice cream, wine tasting, grocery, restaurants, and weekend farmers market. Lopez LOVES July 4, and the house is just next to the parade route. Best kept secret: you can see the fireworks from the living room windows! Lauren was on top of everything, very easy to work with. We'll be back!
Stayed here last summer, and had such a fantastic time I plan to return again this year! This beautiful little cottage was exactly what I was looking for; close to everything Lopez has to offer, yet secluded enough to feel completely cut off from the world. Just such a beautiful space, it was hard to leave! Though close to many of the islands best restaurants, we chose to stay in one night to cook dinner in the fully equipped kitchen and eat while watching the water lap gently at the side of the house. Such a fantastic experience, we can't wait to return to 'our' spot, and explore more of what Lopez has to offer! We highly recommend this rental!
Staying here was just a dream. We were able to put our kayaks right into the water and explore Fisherman Bay, and felt like we were totally secluded even though the Village is a convenient walk from the front door. Saw bald eagles, seals and blue heron just sitting on the porch, it is practically its own wildlife tour! Gorgeous sunsets, and a fabulous beach to walk on. The cottage itself was very, very clean and well-appointed, with a full kitchen, bathroom with washer/dryer, and unlike other places we have stayed on the island, the owners take care of trash and recycling, a much appreciated perk! We would come back in a heartbeat, and highly recommend this place (and don't forget to visit the delicious Bay Cafe restaurant, located just steps away!). A true Island Paradise, and an unforgettable experience.
I can hardly say enough good things about this cottage. It's cozy without feeling cramped, and well-appointed without losing the rustic feel of the island. The view from outside the windows simply can't be beat, and at night the ocean comes right up to the foundation. You can go kayaking easily, or walk into Lopez Village, only a few steps away. Great location, awesome living space. Totally worth a visit.
Steps from all Lopez Village has to offer and at the water's edge, the cabin is efficiently planned with two bedrooms, bath, kitchen, and living room. The whole cabin was spotless and the modern appliances worked well. The photos really don't do this place justice - you'll be hard-pressed to find a better place to watch a sunset. The owners are also very active in the community and knowledgeable about the San Juans...have them tell you about the best hiking spots and best roads for bikes. I hope to return soon.
