Our beach home is a nicely furnished, two level, duplex home located on a quiet street on the island of Holden Beach, North Carolina. The architect designed home is ideal for four adults or a family of four. Toddlers and infants could expand the occupancy if in portable cribs provided by the occupant. We do not rent to college groups or those under age 25.
As you cross the high span curved bridge leading to the island, the view will be enough to help you realize you made the right decision to stay here. The Atlantic Intercoastal Waterway passes under you and the full island and its 10 miles of beaches are in view. The vacation home is about 3/4 mile from the bridge so you will not have to travel far to reach us. The beach is semi-private and is very seldom crowded. When the tide is out, the beach is wide with shallow pools and sand bars. We find it a great place for our grandkids and for walking, fishing from the surf, or just enjoying the walking from the ocean pier to the Town center at the bridge. The sunsets are spectacular. This beach is a great relief from the populous and often noisy beaches. Access to the beach is by the path through the sea grass and over the dunes found only in well maintained beaches and those old beaches we remember. Our home is the second street over and a very short walk to the beach. This part of the island is only two streets wide.
In addition to the beach, another great attraction is that our home has a large rear deck that overlooks the marsh and Intercoastal Waterway. Wildlife abound. Sea birds of all kinds can be observed. Island deer visit the marsh edge and sometimes our back yard. The second floor deck off the master bedroom offers views of the sail boats and power boats that cruise the Waterway. In August, the loggerback turtles nest along the beach. You might see the hatchlings head back to the ocean. On Wednesday a seminar is held at the bridge called “Turtle Talk” which tells of the protected species of turtle.
The front deck is a great place to meet the friendly people at Holden Beach or just relax and read. It overlooks the street which is used more by residents biking and walking than automobiles. We avoid the car and walk the pleasant hike down our street to the Pavilion, boat docks, Intercoastal Waterway, Waterway fishing pier, fish market, and public access boat ramp under the beautiful bridge leading to Holden Beach. Many weekends have musical events at the Pavilion. In the spring and fall are large craft fairs. The holidays such as Fourth of July are special occasions with fireworks organized by the Town.
Owned by an architect and his wife who decided they wanted a comfortable place, the house has been recently renovated and refurnished. Living room furnishings have been updated including a new sofa and loveseat, chair and HDTV. Off the living room is a full size deck with deck table and chairs for outside dining. The main floor features a full kitchen with eat-in bar, dining room and living room combined into one open space. The waterway view bedroom has a queen bed with a full private bath. The ocean view bedroom has two adult size twin beds with a full private bath. There is a full laundry with washer and dryer.
There is a private paved driveway and covered parking under the home that is suitable for two cars or car and boat trailer. A portable charcoal grill is available for your use. We do require that it be used on ground level and away from the house for obvious reasons. No grills or torches are permitted on any decks by order of the Town’s fire marshal. The house has an outside shower and changing area.
Nightly rentals are available during the off peak season (with minimum stay). We may be able to accommodate a last minute rental during peak season if not previously rented. Please drop us an email and we will respond promptly.
Holden Beach has several restaurants that cater to a variety of taste. From pizza and sandwiches, American meals and fresh caught seafood, you will not be disappointed. There is a new Food Lion grocery store and CVS Pharmacy across the bridge on the mainland. There are surf shops, beach gear stores, and several small shops offering everything from coffee to sun dresses on the causeway leading to the beach. There is also a kid size amusement park, miniture golf and water slide along this stretch. And a great ice cream shop.
Boat and jet-skis rentals are available on the mainland across the bridge. Bikes and kayaks rentals are available on the island. There is a ocean side fishing pier/restaurant located about a mile from the home. Next to it is a small grocery store for the basics.
For those that want a restful and enjoyable experience, then you will love our home as we do. Before we purchased our vacation home, we had traveled every beach from southern Virginia to Myrtle Beach. Holden Beach was the best for a true enjoyable vacation. And if you want the noisy night life, it is a 35 mile drive to Myrtle Beach. Or for history, you can visit Southport, Wilmington or take the ferry from Southport over to Historic Fort Fisher and the N.C. Aquarium. When through, you can return to Holden Beach to unwind in peace.
Please contact me with any questions by email. We want your stay to be a positive one.
