Captains View is a cozy two bedroom beach house overlooking the Southern Bay of Cherokee Sound. The 14ft Boat and outboard is and optional high light . The front porch is definitely the most frequently used area of the home partly because of the view but also because it provides a shady, secluded, breezy spot to relax during your vacation. It is the perfect place to have your morning coffee, read a book in the afternoon, or retire after a long day of deep sea fishing.
The House is situated only a few footsteps away from the Long Dock where all types of activities can take place. There are many flat sand bars to walk on during the low tides; they are great places to find beautiful shells. Early tides bring fish including the allusive 'Bonefish' that room freely along the shallow bars of Southern Bay. 'The Long Dock ' and its uncounted wooden pieces have with stood many Hurricanes with sometimes little reconstruction. This dock is a pillar of the fishing town that once allowed for contact from the outside world .
All the community and its residents, as well as non residents , both old and young, have helped maintain its condition giving all who visit here a pleasent stay . There is loads of history is the Cherokee area so make sure to bring your hiking shoes and max the experience ! There are networks of uncharted paths from several hundred of years ago to be explored . Wooden boats and smacks building was an art done for years on the shore of the inner creek. You can learn more stories about this era by meeting friendly locals of Cherokee and hearing about the history of this place.
Guests have access to Watching Bay beach, on the Oceanside through a private development 'The Reserve at Watching bay '. This is all within walking distance, but the bicycles are great for this, and riding through town, . You can also rent a vehicle in Marsh Harbour beforehand to get to the house and sight see the island wide towns .
The uniqueness of this home is not only what it does have but it doesn’t have. By separating yourself from cable television and land line phones(which we do not have in the home!)you can find other ways to entertain yourselves. However, keep in mind that there is wi-fi internet access available so you can bring your business with you if you insist! We hope you will come enjoy a peaceful vacation with the ones you love at Captains View in Cherokee.
My wife, a last minute addition and I just got back from this great place. A little cooler than we hoped, but still had a great time. Beautiful clean empty beaches that go for miles. The house was everything we expected. Did a lot of our own cooking. However if you go need to stop at Pete's. Great food and drink. Highly recommend staying here. Can't think of anything to complain about. Looking forward to going back.
We had a great time here. We noticed that the bathroom had been renovated since last year as well as a patio out back which were nice improvements.Blackout blinds in the one bedroom were also appreciated.Glenn has done a nice job of maintaining the property and is always available to address anything that might come up.Hope to return again.
The name fits as several super friendly, retired men of Cherokee gather each day viewing the sound with coffee in hand at the nearby "Long Dock." The beautifully furnished Captains Views is located with a SW view of Cherokee Sound. Superb wading flats provide easy access to schools of bonefish. The cable TV, complete kitchen and comfortable furnishings met all of our needs. The nearest restaurant in Little Harbour has good food just 15 minutes away and a very interesting art gallery. The bikes and kayaks which were included, made for easy transportation around town. The one grocery store is well stocked and expect to pay quite a bit more as the sticker shock will encourage you to shop in Marsh Harbor's grocery, Maxwell's, on your next visit to Captain's View. If you want nightlife, a lot of opportunity to share stories and meet fellow vacationers while indulging in adult beverages, I'd go elsewhere. This community is ideal for experienced DIY flyfishers, and those wanting to get away to rejuvenate the soul and experience a quieter lifestyle.
Glenn's house was immaculate, very well stocked, and we loved having access to his kayaks and bicycles. It's an amazing property if you want to get away from it all (although there is WIFI and cable TV) and enjoy the spectacular Cherokee Sound area all day long. The house is the closest one in the settlement to the water. There's a little beach in front and when the tide goes out, you can walk the flats for a long, long way. We gathered lots of lovely shells. The Long Dock is such a great feature; it's the longest wooden dock in the Bahamas. It makes snorkeling at high tide so easy. We also loved taking the kayaks over to Little Bay just around the bend, which had an isolated beach and a long rocky shoreline which was great for snorkeling - we saw sting rays, dolphins, and lots of fish. Right next door to the house is a tidal creek where kids would play and the current rushes in and out under a short wooden bridge. The bikes were great for riding to the store or just around the quaint, little town.
If you want a relaxing getaway, and enjoy snorkeling, swimming, shelling, kayaking, sunning, and cooking/making your meals, then I highly recommend this property. There are no close restaurants (Pete's Pub is not too far but it was closed through October) or bars. We did save a lot of $ by stocking up in Marsh Harbor and eating "at home" during our week. The days went by so fast even though we were just "hanging out". My husband enjoyed talking with the locals in the morning at the bench on The Long Dock. I would love to go back to Cherokee Sound, and I would definitely rent this property again.
I retired from guiding on Mt Everest 3 days before coming straight to Mr. Russel's beach front home.
Mr. Russell would even send me emails at Everest Base Camp encouraging me that warm days awaited me!
Mr. Russell arranged for a boat rental and it was waiting on the bonefish flats when I arrived - gassed and ready to go!
The house was immaculate and my wife and I could see the pristine ocean right from the bedroom bed.
Mr Russell had bikes ready for us and a grill ready to go also for our fish and lobsters.
I travel all over the world and this home would be my choice to retire and live out my days!
Well, put another way, I reside in Kona, Hawaii on 4 acres near the ocean - and I fully prefer to be in little peaceful Cherokee!
Cherokee Sound is a special place and Glenn's home is absolutely perfect. Our family of five had no troubles here as we splashed and played in the sound all week.
The kitchen had everything you'd need and the kayaks and fishing rods were a big bonus. The Long Dock is a great place to hang out by day and watch the stars by night.
The Food Fair in Cherokee is well stocked but load up on staples like beer in Marsh Harbor. Everyone was very nice to us in Cherokee and we received lots of ripe mangoes from the trees of locals.
We took 3 kids 8-13 and they all had a blast. The short hike to the nearby Ocean beach was fun and worthwhile, we felt like Robinson Caruso.
Yes, Pete's is close by and very tasty (saw some dolphins swimming nearby in the harbor there while we were eating) we also made the trip to Marsh Harbor for dinner out a couple times, lots of good choices. We took day trips to a couple cays and they were fantastic for snorkeling and hanging out. If you go somewhere with a pool and restaurant on the beach you're set for the day. Pay attention to ferry schedules and ask about departure times to be sure.
Our favorite times were at the house, hanging out or fishing on the dock, in the sound, on the kayaks or admiring the views at low and high tide from the front porch over coffee or Kaliks.
Glenn is very helpful, responsive and all the descriptions and reviews are accurate. The house was super, we wanted for nothing. I would definitely recommend Captain's View and Cherokee.
