Sink into a large, sectional sofa after a day of swimming, hiking, boating or sightseeing in this new home. Nestled in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, this cottage is loaded with amenities including WIFI, a big-screen T.V, wrap-around deck with hot tub, iPod compatible stereo system, ceiling fans with remotes and air conditioning. Dogs and/or hot tub are available with an modest additional security deposit.
This cottage is within walking distance to Acadia National Park hiking trails and the ocean, and it is close to the nearby town of Southwest Harbor where plenty of restaurants and shopping are available. Stars light up the night sky, with the cool breeze that coaxes you to a sound sleep. It is truly a memorable vacation destination!
This home was the best! It really was everything we could want in a vacation home. The teens were having a fit about not going to the beach as usual, so they were a hard sell - but even they said this was one of the best vacations ever. Jennifer was extremely receptive to our questions (even the dumb ones). The house was located in a great spot close to Southwest Harbor. A main grocery store was at the bottom of the hill, and the town was minutes away by car. We were so glad we didn't stay in Bar Harbor - it is a lovely place, and we went there twice, but the crowds - forget it.... Southwest Harbor was quaint and had everything we needed. Good restaurants, ice cream, bike rentals and fairly close to all the places we wanted to visit on the Island. We were two families - we stuck the teens up in the bunk bedroom (top of A-frame). It wasn't until the 3rd day we realized there was a pool table in the basement! The porch which runs the length of the house was just gorgeous, looking out over the woods. There were a few homes up on our road, but you couldn't see them through the forest. The stars were amazing, especially from the hot tub. We were there the 2nd week of July and the weather was great - never had to use the AC, always a breeze... We called the house "our green cabin", but it was far from a cabin! I have done many vacation rentals over the years, and it was so refreshing to stay in a home that was really someone's vacation home - not an investment property with zero personal touches. Fun stuff we did on MDI: rented bikes and road around the ponds, having lunch at Jordan House (we timed the ride with help from bike store in SW Harbor and made reservations outside) - beautiful! We enjoyed sunset atop Cadillac Mt., after enjoying a lobster meal at one of the roadside lobster pounds (near north entrance to park). We spent an afternoon at Echo Lake for a "refreshing" swim. A special highlight was going to Sand Beach on the loop road, views were breathtaking. We took a lunch, left our stuff on the beach and hiked up and around Great Head Trail - a little challenging for some of us, but well worth it. I would highly recommend Eat a Pita restaurant for any meal in SW Harbor. My thanks to our hosts, and should we go Northeast - Downeast again, we will be sure to rent this special home.
Comfortable, very attractive house with a large deck looking out at forest. It was private, quiet, very convenient to Southwest Harbor, grocery shopping, Acadia. We discovered a way to walk into town over the causeway and through a forest path. There is every kind of glassware you might want, a
large fireplace in front of which it's lovely to sit at night, an Acadia mountain right down the road. We really liked SW Harbor, and this house made our 3 weeks even more of a pleasure. Owners were quickly responsive to questions and helpful, even leaving a vase of flowers to greet us. We would be happy to rent this house again.
We love this house. It is quiet and very comfortable. Updated and has everything you need. So close to Southwest Harbor, yet very private. A great Maine get a way!
My wife, six month old daughter, myself and our pug traveled to Maine for the first time and we had an amazing time! The house was perfect for us. The fireplace made the living room nice and cozy. The hot tub under the stars made the nights sparkle. The kitchen was stocked with utensils, a few things of tupperware to store leftovers and plenty of glasses to fill with your favorite libation. The location was great too! There is a grocery store about a mile away from the house, which made getting supplies a snap. An entrance to Acadia National Park is about a mile in the other direction from the store. I highly recommend hiking the trail right off Fernald Point Road. When you get to the top of Flying Mountain, you are rewarded with spectacular views!
On a personal note, we're from Long Island, NY and just happened to stay here during Hurricane Sandy. We had a tough couple of days trying to reach our families but finally did get through and everyone was okay. Initially we weren't sure if we were going to be able to make it back to our home (as it didn't have power and reports weren't looking too good). When I emailed Jen, the home owner of this house we were renting in Maine, she was very kind and offered to work with us staying longer if needed. It's that kind of consideration and compassion that let's me know the owners of this house are kind and genuinely awesome people.
If you're looking for a house in the Bar Harbor area that offers great amenities, is close to everything, and has owners that make the process thoroughly enjoyable...this is your house!!
We had a group of 8. The open floor plan and vaulted ceiling living "great" room made the house feel very spacious, yet homey. We loved the promixity to the numerous hiking trails and Southwest Harbor. After a long, active day outside, the fireplace and hot tub were priceless...especially with a starry sky. I have stayed in numerous timeshare and vrbo rentals and by far, this house provided the most "like home" essentials. The owners were wonderful throughout the time before, during and after our stay. They quickly responded to any questions and were very accommodating to special requests.
Our group was in town for the Mt. Desert Island marathon. The house is less than a mile from the finish line, which was a big plus. Next time we return to the area, this house will be our first choice.
This property is absolutely beautiful, clean, immaculate and well maintained. It was a wonderful home to come back to after a day of activity. It is close to conveniences, restaurants and the various small towns within Mt. Desert Island. A bit of paradise in a secluded community. My husband and I did not want to leave after our week was over. The owners were delightful and helpful in all communications. We will definitely be returning in the future.
