Zone: san frediano
Floor: 1 elevator :no
The san frediano district is on the oltrarno, and takes it's name from the porta san frediano, one of the doors to the city (porta) when it was walled-in. At the porta there is a marble marker shjust north of piazza del carmine stretches borgo san frediano. The street and surrounding area have, to a degree, retained their feel of a working-class quarter where small-scale artisans have beavered away over the centuries. Many continue to do so.
This is definitely the most typical and 'genuine' district of the city. Here the masses of tourists only pass through and its streets are characterized by the presence of many handicraft workshops, jewellery schools, typical restaurants, traditional shops, street markets, churches and old buildings where it's still possible today to discover the rhythms and colours of a 'quotidian' and noisy florence.
Nerli suite is a modern and elegant apartment located properly in piazza dei nerli offers a pleasant stay in florence. In 10 minutes by foot you arrive to the station. The apartment is central, easy to reach and possible to park as there is a parking area in front of the apartment.
Duomo, ponte vecchio, santo spirito, pitti palace are only few minutes walking distance.
The apartment is on the first floor of an ancient building and it has a luminious livingroom with a kitchenette, spaciuos bedroom with ensuite bathroom with shower.
It is a traditional fiorentine apartment with cotto floor.
There is an a/c in the livingroom.
This great little 1 bedroom is in the Oltrano neighborhood, the other side of the river. It's only a quick 10-15 minute walk to all of the top destinations (we walked everywhere - I'd even walk in my high heels to dinner on the other side of the city) but it feels like a different city. Near all of the tourist attractions you hear a steady stream of English (British, American, Aussie) but in this neighborhood you actually hear Italian being spoken and menus cater to locals not tourists.
It's really quiet considering you're in the heart of the city (yes, you'll hear a baby cry or the old man walking his dog or the young woman in getting ready for work but no clubs, parties or other loud things).
The pictures are accurate, though the bedroom now has some extra storage. It's a great combination of old charm (beams, exposed brick, tile floors) and modern amenities (stainless kitchen, body jets in the shower). Bathroom and kitchen are modern and well kept but the water does have a high mineral content so there are some mineral deposits around handles and in the corners - it's clean but unless you use harsh chemicals, it just looks a little discolored (my old house had that problem - it's no big deal). Heads up about the shower - there is a safety feature that prevents scolding. If you turn it all the way to hot, you'll end up with a tepid shower. Start in the middle and slowly build your way up in temperature and pressure to get a real hot shower.
Mine, the host, was great offering tips about everything and several recommendations for great places to eat - her recommendation for the restaurant just down the street was one of our favorite. She was friendly and flexible.
