About this property

Dog Friendly Upscale Cottage with Treehouse Vibe Close to Town and Outdoor Fun

Enjoy our brand new, just completed cottage, the second of two rental cottages on our property. Our other cottage is about 1000 ft. up the driveway. Check out our 100 five star reviews. VRBO # 639577.

Our designer cottage is our extended family's cozy, very comfortable 1700 sq. ft. residence/vacation retreat. You'll have everything you need--just like home. We are situated on 8 acres, accessed by electric gate. We are surrounded by woods, which are home to lots of wildlife. The houses in our area are on quiet, secluded 3-8 acre lots. The cottage is about 1/2 mile from the main road. Our property is also situated across the road from Kanuga Conference and Kanuga Bike Park.

We have a gate at the back of the property that you can exit to walk to Kanuga Conference or ride you bikes on Kanuga Lakes Rd.

You can keep your bikes in the utility room at the back of the house while enjoying Hendersonville.

We are situated 10 minutes from Dupont Forest; 20 minutes from Brevard; 45 minutes from Asheville; 15 minutes from Hendersonville proper. We're close to many breweries, local vineyards, apple farms, great restaurants, and local attractions.

The cottage has lots of windows and natural light. The living area and master bedroom are on the second floor. You feel like you're in a treehouse surrounded by lots of trees.

The loft with a half bath is on the third floor. The bed is a trundle bed. The bottom bed rises up to full height. The twin size beds can be pushed together or be separated. The mattresses are high end foam, and we also bought 2" memory foam toppers for each mattress. Very comfortable. We supply soft sheets and duvets for each bed. There is a desk, if you wish to do some work. The washer and dryer are in a closet in the loft.

The guest bedroom and full bath are on the ground floor and have a separate entrance. The room can also be accessed by a staircase from the main living area. The queen mattress is high end foam with a memory foam topper. Very comfortable. We supply luxury cotton sheets and a duvet. The bathroom is good sized with plenty of towels. There is also a makeup magnifying mirror. The house is very well insulated which also keeps interior quiet.

The master bedroom has a great king bed. The nightstands each have a plug to charge your phones. The master bath is pure luxury with a slipper tub and huge marble shower.

******PLEASE READ: You will be renting the 2nd and 3rd floors of the cottage, which sleeps four. The other bedroom on the ground floor, which sleeps two, will only be available to and rented by your family, if you need it. You will not share the house with strangers. The rental fee is listed at checkout. If you need the ground floor guest bedroom as well, the charge is an additional $100/night. The OPTIONAL extra bedroom charge ($100/night) is called PROPERTY FEE at checkout. *****

We have a gas grill and a picnic table. There is a rustic fire pit surrounded by logs for sitting around the fire. There is a bistro table and three chairs on the deck by the front door. We also have additional outdoor furniture.

The living area has a vaulted ceiling, which gives the cottage a sense of openness and spaciousness.

The bedrooms are well appointed, as are the bathrooms, with lots of pillows, sheets, and towels.

The kitchen is very well equipped and has many necessary pantry items. There is a blender, Kitchenaid mixer, Keurig, toaster, microwave, drip coffee maker, coffee grinder, lots of pots and pans, dishes, glasses, mugs, etc. Just holler if you need something. The refrigerator is full size, 25 cu. ft. The oven has an air fryer setting. You'll be able to cook anything you want.

We have a large smart TV in the living room.

We have a private electric gate at the bottom of the long driveway to discourage sightseers.

The area is surrounded by 13 miles of forest between Asheville and Brevard. Infrequently, a storm disrupts the power. We have a standby generator which is emergency backup for the greenhouse and for the well pump. In an outage, you'll have water. Each room has a pull up lantern as well.

There are 63 undeveloped acres next to us, and three neighbors on bucolic three acre sites on the other side.

It's very peaceful here with abundant wildlife. The area has wild turkeys, an owl who lives near our driveway hill, many rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, deer, foxes, coyotes, bears, geese, ducks, birds of all sorts, and fish in the pond. Hendersonville is a bird sanctuary, a nature lovers paradise.

Our farming activities consist of managing the greenhouse and cutting lavender in the summer. The lavender field is between the cottage and the greenhouse. There is no heavy equipment; no traffic. There's minimal traffic on Kanuga Lakes Rd. on the other side of the cottage.

We have two small trails on our property. Next to the storage container at the end closest to the main house is the entrance to go down one trail. At the bottom of the hill, cross the bridge and walk up the other side. Our property intersects the middle of that pond. The meadow below belongs to the other neighbors.

The cottage has two lovely bedrooms, a loft, 1 half bath in the loft, 2 luxurious full baths--one with a very large shower, one with a tub/shower combo. There are sets of towels in each bath. Hair dryers are in the master and guest bathroom. There is a make-up mirror in the master bathroom. The top drawer also has extra toilet paper. The drawers contain towels. Each bathroom has an exhaust fan.

The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom. There is a half bath in the loft and an en suite bath in the guest bedroom. There is one king bed in the master bedroom, one queen bed in the second bedroom, trundle bed in the loft. The beds are new and very comfortable. There are an extra king sheets in the master bedroom closet. There are extra queen sheets in the second bedroom and loft. The king and queen sheets are high end 100% cotton sheets. There are extra blankets.

Large kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances. Lots of pots and cooking utensils. Set of service for twelve Corelle dishes, set of service for eight melamine dishes for outdoor use. Three sizes of glassware. Wine glasses for 6. Plastic wine glasses for outdoors. Plastic drinking glasses for outdoor use. Microwave, toaster, Keurig, drip coffee pot, cereal dispenser. Pantry has a few items that vary. They may include sugar, mustard, ketchup, mayo, salt, pepper, many spices, Stevia, Splenda, raisins, soup, olive oil, canola oil, ground coffee, tea, ground decaf coffee, a few K-cups. Contents will vary. There are some cookbooks in the bookcase. There are other books and board games as well.

There is a washer and dryer in the loft. We have a Roomba to vacuum in addition to the standard vacuum. There are cleaning products, if you need them.

The TV is a smart TV, so you can log in to your various streaming accounts and enjoy your favorite shows. Each bedroom has a smart TV. You Tube TV is our TV provider for local and streaming channels.

There is no land telephone line. We finally were able to get ATT high speed internet. They just installed fiber optic cable in our area. We're all waiting to get the fastest internet.

The art studio and the garage for the mower and Kawasaki 4 x 4 are on the ground floor. The utility room is on the opposite side of the house. It houses garbage cans. There is also room to store your bikes, if you like.

We are dog lovers and welcome well behaved dogs. Limit of two dogs. All dogs must be at least two years old and housebroken, spayed or neutered, non-marking, non-aggressive, well socialized dogs with current vaccinations and flea/tick treatment. Your dogs can run free off leash, if you like. We caution against small dogs running free, as there are owls and hawks living here. We have dog dishes and dog towels.

Sorry, we are allergic to cats and can't have them in the cottage.

You will enjoy everything about your vacation in Hendersonville. We are in a rural area, but we're an easy 6-8 mile drive to town. We’re close to lots of wonderful area outdoor activities. Our location is the best of both worlds.

Lovely big dog friendly option
We really enjoyed our stay in Hendersonville! House/cabin is very comfortable and could easily accommodate 6. It is multiple levels so you’ll have to be okay with some stairs. Modern amenities available including usb port nightstands, washer/dryer, hairdryer, iron and everything you could need in the kitchen. There are also games, books, coloring books and magazines. It’s a beautiful, quiet property where we saw quite a few deer and our 100lb Golden-Newfoundland was able to roam freely. Nice, short trails around property made for lovely morning walks before heading out to many beautiful nearby dog friendly hikes with tons of easily accessible waterfalls. The downtown is cute and quaint and also very dog friendly. There are plenty of shops, breweries and really good restaurants to choose from. There are several grocery stores nearby too if you want to cook. The owners live in a completely separate house on property and will meet you at the cabin to let you in and answer any questions - they are nearby if you need anything but don’t intrude on your privacy at all. Great option for Hendersonville/Asheville especially if you want to bring your dog(s).

About the host

We are Miami transplants. Hendersonville was the favorite vacation destination of our family since the 60's. In the 80's Brian's dad bought our house and the 8 acres surrounding it. We bought the property from the estate, and our siblings partnered with us to have Brian build two more houses. This is our family's refuge and retreat.

We set up a greenhouse to grow hydroponic lettuce. We can grow over 2000 heads of lettuce and other greens. When Sierra Nevada first came to the area, we grew lettuce for the restaurant. Turns out, most people are not big salad eaters here. We've been using the greenhouse for other things.

We have a lovely lavender field. The neighborhood bear likes to tromp through the lavender looking for ant eggs. Our little 27 lb. dog, Wren, likes to chase the bear. She really gets him moving.

Best of all, is the pleasure of meeting all the people and dogs who rent our homes.

We hope you have a wonderful stay, and we're here to help if you need something.

Why they chose this property

Years ago, this area was a bucolic paradise, and the property was exceptionally beautiful. There were only three other houses down the hill from our house. They shared a large meadow. What a great view! They were owned by a Miami businessman, doctor, and lawyer who took great pleasure in manicuring their neighboring properties.

Crab Creek Rd. was a narrow two lane road with farmers frequently moving tractors. No housing developments. Only a couple of restaurants in town. No fast food restaurants until the 80's! A dry county until the 90's, I think.

Times have changed. It's still beautiful. You have the best of two worlds--the rural beauty and activities and modern shopping, restaurants, and breweries.

What makes this property unique

Our location is the best. We are located half way between town and rural hiking and biking areas. Kanuga Conference and Bike Park are just across the road from us. Jeter Mountain Farm is close to us. We are near Asheville, Brevard, Greenville, and lots of other small towns.

Our homes are very upscale and designer furnished, providing you with everything you need to have a great stay. We are also available to help if you need something..
