Overview

Harrisonburg Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Creekside Cabin. A real cabin located on the creek. King size bed w/ creek view.

Please Read The Entire Description:

HOMEAWAY HAS CHANGED THEIR POLICIES: KIDS ARE NOW BEING CHARGED THROUGH THE BOOK IT NOW OPTION. WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR KIDS UNDER 18. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK THROUGH THE BOOK IT NOW, JUST PUT THE NUMBER OF ADULTS. ADD A NOTE OF HOW MANY KIDS THERE ARE AND WE WILL CHANGE IT IN THE RESERVATION. THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO BOOK IT YOURSELF AND NOT HAVE THE EXTRA FEES.

Creekside Cabin has a real cabin feel because it is a real cabin. Originally built as a Summer getaway right on the creek, it is a two bedroom, one bathroom cabin located right on Gum Run, which is a Native Trout stream. The master bedroom has a king size bed and a creek view. The second bedroom has a queen size bed. There is a full kitchen and full bathroom as well. There is back stone porch and a screen porch on the front of the cabin (the screen porch is scheduled to be replaced as soon as we have a few weekdays where the cabin is not booked and we are hoping to redo the back stone porch soon too).

Wake up to the sound of water flowing in the creek just outside the master bedroom. This is a real cabin that was originally built over 70 years ago as a summer getaway. The cabin is rustic, but super cute with original heart pine floors. The bathroom was just updated the end of August with a new stand up shower, new vanity/sink and toilet.

There is also a fire pit right on the river which is perfect for relaxing in the evenings. The cabin is also walking distance to the George Washington National Forest. Trout fishing here is amazing year round. And Dry River (a 3 minute walk from the cabin) is one of the best trout streams in the entire Mid-Atlantic region.

The kitchen currently has retro 1950's or 1960's appliances, but they are still fully functional though. They are not perfect whereas they are more than 50 years old. The stove / oven is very old, but it is in amazing shape and works perfectly. The kitchen sink is from the 1940's era, but it is still in excellent shape too for its age (keep in mind it is 70 years old or so). The kitchen cabinets are all metal and from another era too. :) We will replace all of these appliances and cabinets at some point (although numerous guests keep telling us to keep the old appliances so we may end up keeping them due to popular demand), but they are in amazing condition for their age so we'll be sure to find another use for them as decorations if we do replace them. There is a toaster, microwave, blender and coffee maker in the kitchen too.

The cabin has high speed wireless internet. The living room has a flat screen tv (with full cable and a blu-ray / dvd player). The cabin also has a land line phone in case your cell phone doesn't work out here. (some cell providers work, but not all).

There is also a decent size living room with a stone fireplace with a wood stove. There is also a screen porch with real hard wood floors, (the screen is older but still functional). There is also a back stone patio that also needs work (the stones need to be re-done again).

The cabin is nestled between two nicer and larger cabins. One is only used a few weekends a month and rarely during the week. In the other cabin lives one of the sweetest and nicest older ladies that you could ever want to meet.

This is rustic cabin... Not a luxury cabin... So make note of this, but we have confidence that this cabin is still perfect for those looking for a real cabin experience. :)

We do accept one night reservations depending on availability, but there is a two night minimum on weekends (either Friday and Saturday nights or Saturday and Sunday nights unless we are not booked at the last minute, in which case we may allow for a one night stay over a weekend).

About Katie and Steven Robert Jones

We came to Virginia from Texas so I (Steven) could finish my college degree, but got into the vacation rental business by accident. :) We have three daughters under the age of 5. We have 8 rescue dogs, 2 rescue cats, 2 ponies, 8 goats & about 50 chickens.

We believe service is what sets us apart in the vacation rental industry. Katie & I personally own every cabin that we manage. We check-in all of our guests personally (sometimes even as late as 2 or 3 in the morning). When you arrive, the lights will be on and you will be welcomed and shown around the cabin, unlike most other rentals where you access a lock box and walk into a dark cold house. If it is Winter time and you let us know in advance that you want a fire, we'll even have a real wood burning fire going for you. We are always available. We live right here on the mountain and we really mean it when we say that we are always available. If you need us at 4 am or have a problem, please do not ever hesitate to let us know. This is all we do 24/7 and we want all of our guests to have an amazing stay. We would be honored if you would allow us the opportunity to serve you.

Katie and Steven Robert Jones purchased this cabin in 2013

Wonderful Cabin Right On The River

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here. The listing description was really accurate, the beds were really comfy, and the backyard was our favorite place to hang out! It was a beautiful cool weekend, perfect weather to read outside and sit by a fire.

Nice, rustic cabin... a bit pricey.

  • 3 of 5

The cabin itself was very nice inside, especially if you don't mind a rustic feel. It was clean and well taken care of. The view from the master bedroom is awesome. There were a few minor issues, but nothing that detracted from the overall experience. We usually camp, so we're ok with "rustic". The biggest drawback was its price. We felt that it was pretty overpriced for what you got - especially considering the proximity to other cabins and lack of privacy. The babbling brook and forest is awesome, but you are within feet of other cabins on either side. Open up the curtains to any window not face the back, and you are staring into windows on another cabin. For the price that was charged, we were expecting a bit more privacy and some better kitchen amenities.

What More Do You Need?

  • 5 of 5

Steve and Katie's Creekside Cabin was a perfect holiday weekend getaway for us. They provided everything we could possibly need with all the modern conveniences, however, it still maintained a wonderful rustic feel as a cabin with it's own private fire pit by the creek that was enjoyed nightly. There are two trees down by the creek that was perfect for my ENO hammock that I bought at REI on the way up, so glad I did, it was icing on the cake. Great local hikes, the friendliest neighbors and the best Farmer's Market in Harrisonburg were also highlights of our visit. Katie even dropped off fresh eggs from their hens, come on now, what more do you need?

Amazing getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is exactly what you would want for a quick country getaway. It's cozy, clean, and comfortable, with all the amenities you would need. I drove up to Shenandoah National Park from here (about 45 mins away from Skyline Drive) and there are also hikes much closer to the cabin. Harrisonburg is only about 10 minutes away for last minute trips to Walmart. Katie and Steve, the owners, could not be nicer. They were very attentive and make themselves available to you around the clock if you need anything. I hope to stay here again in the future!

Charming Rustic Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for three days with 2 adults, 2 teens & 2 dogs. Our trip was to tour nearby JMU. We loved the fact that cabin was close to University (20 min), groceries and restaurants/shops - yet remote enough to find peace and solitude in the midst of the forest. Close by neighbors - everyone quiet and friendly. Goats, ponies and dogs across road were highly entertaining and friendly/curious to meet our dogs. Comfortable beds, lovely pine floors & ceilings. Plenty of firewood provided for $20. More spacious than photos indicate. Wifi & Verizon worked well to our teen's relief!

Great Cabin. Loved The Petting Zoo Down the Road.

Katie and Steven made us feel very welcome and were extremely helpful hosts. We especially enjoyed feeding their animals across the street! Great cabin. Highly recommended.
