KIDS STAY FREE! HISTORIC CABIN ON CREEK WALK TO NAT'L FOREST FISHING & TRAILS

Harrisonburg Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Creekside Cabin. A real cabin located on the creek. King size bed w/ creek view.

HOMEAWAY HAS CHANGED THEIR POLICIES: KIDS ARE NOW BEING CHARGED THROUGH THE BOOK IT NOW OPTION. WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR KIDS UNDER 18. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK THROUGH THE BOOK IT NOW, JUST PUT THE NUMBER OF ADULTS. ADD A NOTE OF HOW MANY KIDS THERE ARE AND WE WILL CHANGE IT IN THE RESERVATION. THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO BOOK IT YOURSELF AND NOT HAVE THE EXTRA FEES.

Creekside Cabin

Creekside Cabin has a real cabin feel because it is a real cabin. Originally built as a Summer getaway right on the creek, it is a two bedroom, one bathroom cabin located right on Gum Run, which is a Native Trout stream. The master bedroom has a king size bed and a creek view. The second bedroom has a queen size bed. There is a full kitchen and full bathroom as well. There is back stone porch and a screen porch on the front of the cabin (the screen porch is scheduled to be replaced as soon as we have a few weekdays where the cabin is not booked).

Wake up to the sound of water flowing in the creek just outside the master bedroom. This is a real cabin that was originally built over 70 years ago as a summer getaway. The cabin is rustic, but super cute with original heart pine floors. The bathroom was just updated the end of August with a new stand up shower, new vanity/sink and toilet.

There is also a fire pit right on the river which is perfect for relaxing in the evenings. The cabin is also walking distance to the George Washington National Forest. Trout fishing here is amazing year round. And Dry River (a 3 minute walk from the cabin) is one of the best trout streams in the entire Mid-Atlantic region.

The kitchen currently has retro 1950's or 1960's appliances, but they are still fully functional though. They are not perfect whereas they are more than 50 years old. The stove / oven is very old, but it is in amazing shape and works perfectly. The kitchen sink is from the 1940's era, but it is still in excellent shape too for its age (keep in mind it is 70 years old or so). The kitchen cabinets are all metal and from another era too. :) We will replace all of these appliances and cabinets at some point, but they are in amazing condition for their age so we'll be sure to find another use for them as decorations. There is a brand new toaster, microwave, blender and coffee maker.

The cabin has high speed wireless internet. The living room has a flat screen tv (with full cable and a blu-ray / dvd player). The cabin also has a land line phone in case your cell phone doesn't work out here. (some cell providers work, but not all).

There is also a decent size living room with a stone fireplace and a wood stove. There is also a screen porch with real hard wood floors, (the screen is older but still functional). There is also a back stone patio that also needs work (the stones need to be re-done again).

The cabin is nestled between two nicer and larger cabins. One is only used a few weekends a month and rarely during the week. In the other cabin lives one of the sweetest and nicest older ladies that you could ever want to meet.

This is rustic cabin... Not a luxury cabin... So make note of this, but we have confidence that this cabin is still perfect for those looking for a real cabin experience. :)

We do accept one night reservations depending on availability, but there is a two night minimum on weekends (either Friday and Saturday nights or Saturday and Sunday nights unless we are not booked at the last minute, in which case we may allow for a one night stay over a weekend).

Great Place to Get-A-Way....

  • 4 of 5
This is a wonderful place to stay if you want to get away and enjoy a relaxing vacation with nature. This place far exceed my expections. It's a cabin, nothing luxurious which is exactly what I expected but it exceeded my expectations. I fell in love with the kitchen. It is equiped with a 1960's GE stove that works like it's brand new. We spent our daytime exploring the National Forest and the evenings near the creek and campfire. The Blue Hole, a hidden gem, is located just a short walk from the cabin. You follow the trail along side the North River toward the west. The owners were awesome it providing us all the information we needed and amentities. They are very responsive and want you to feel at home. I highly recommend creek side. In fact, we loved the cabin so much we are buying a cabin of our own so we can have our own get away to the mountains.

Wonderful Family Stay!!

  • 5 of 5
We have just returned home after staying the week in what we now consider our second home, the Creekside Cabin in Rawley Springs. Our large family LOVED every minute of our stay here. We have 5 children, ages 15,10,8,4, and 1 year, and all slept comfortably and had plenty of room to roam and enjoy the outdoors. For us, sometimes it is a challenge to find something all age ranges will enjoy, but this cabin and the surrounding area met all of our needs. We found the cabin to be clean and comfortable. The kitchen appliances all worked very well and I (mom) actually fell in love with the old sink and stove. :) It really made me feel connected with the people who originally built this cabin many years ago. The beds were incredibly comfortable, there is a pull out couch near the back of the cabin where our boys slept, and they were able to enjoy the sounds of the creek just as we were in the master bedroom. We slept so peacefully and soundly, and the quiet is what sticks out to us most of all. The area is not full of tourist traps and the like, it is just....simply a beautiful and very scenic area. Not a ton of people all around you, so if you want a place to relax and get away from it all, this is for you. The creek behind the cabin is beautiful, and larger than we expected based on the photos. We just couldn't believe it when we first arrived and saw it! Our kids, all of them, even the baby, enjoyed splashing in the creek. They really could have skipped rocks and played in there all day. We fished and only caught a few small trout, but it was fun nonetheless. The water is crystal clear! We also enjoyed campfires right on the water. It is actually quite shady in the back so the kids could play without the blazing sun on them. It was just amazing! Can't say enough about it! We did the hike to High Knob Fire Tower with all 5 kiddos, and that was tough but everyone enjoyed it. It did take us 3 hours round trip though. Again, the cabin and area are wonderful...the animals across the road are quite sweet! Kids fed them grass every day and now they want a pony of their own. (Haha, NO!) The cabin does have a bug or two here and there, but for heaven's sake it is a cabin in the woods! Also, there are these great things called a rolled up newspaper or a flip flop, they come in handy. :) The cabin is great, highly recommended! We are already making plans to return and have pretty much made this our family's "place" that we will always vacation to. That says a lot! :)

Amazing Cabin By Peaceful Creek - Perfect Stay

  • 5 of 5
My favorite part was hearing the creek from the bedroom at night. The cabin was welcoming and cozy. The weather was nice and cool so we slept with the window open so we could hear the river. I saw the last two reviews, one which mentioned spider webs and the other that mentioned loud neighbors, but our stay was perfect. We saw no spider webs and it was so quiet and peaceful. The sound of the river lulled us to sleep at night. While there were other cabins on the road it was so quiet the whole time we stayed. The goats and ponies across the road were a real treat too. They loved to eat dandelions and leaves from the trees and were so friendly. The master bedroom with the king size bed overlooking the creek was amazingly comfortable and scenic. The entire back wall of the bedroom is windows so the creek view is perfect. There were birds everywhere at the bird feeders. There were a couple of nice hikes / walks near the cabin that follow the river, one of which led to a cute little swimming hole which would be perfect for kids. The cabin was equipped with everything we could have needed for cooking. And the fresh eggs from the owners was an unexpected surprise. There were even some Blue/Green eggs which we loved. The owners Katie and Steven made it very clear that they lived nearby and they were available anytime day or night if we needed anything at all. Would gladly return and recommend the cabin to anyone else.

Sweet, if not entirely quiet

  • 3 of 5
There are many things to like about this cabin -- the creek running by it, the really comfy bed, the allowance of dogs, the close proximity of the GW National Forest, and the friendly owners. The downsides included the lighting in the cabin -- (there's not enough light in the kitchen or living room to read by), the cabin was missing some basic amenities (like sponges), and the neighboring cabins are very close by. One cabin is immediately next door, and I could see the inhabitants through their window from my door. Their party late one night might as well have been in my own backyard. I couldn't enjoy the sound of the creek because of their laughing and screaming. It sounded like fun...if it had been my own party! Unfortunately, it wasn't conducive to sleeping! Overall, I really enjoyed the cabin, but there were drawbacks.

Rustic cabin

  • 3 of 5
We stayed at this cabin for two nights in May. I really liked the area as it is in - right in the woods, on a babbling creek. It is not far from Harrisonburg (20 or so minutes) and the surrounding country side is breathtaking (farms, rolling hills, etc.)

We knew going in that the cabin was going to be a bit rustic with some older appliances, etc. I did not have an issue with the out dated kitchen or anything like that. The cabin itself was quite charming and the main bedroom looked like it was going to be a very peaceful place to sleep. Only, we didn't end up sleeping there because when I went to get in bed, I realized there was a big web full of spiders stretching across the ceiling. Again, I knew this cabin was going to be rustic, but if I wanted to sleep with that many insects, I would have gone tent camping. So, we weren't able to sleep in that room or the other bedroom because we discovered more spiders there. We ended up on the futon in the main entrance of the cabin.

I think this cabin has enormous potential. We met one of the owners and she was very nice and I really appreciated being walked through the house and shown where everything was. I think it likely needs some deep cleaning and a few minor repairs. If it weren't for the spiders, I would have given it at least four stars.

Mountain cabin with a giant dose of charm!

  • 4 of 5
We have had a great privilege to stay in a cabin owned and maintained by Katie and Steven. The greeting was warm and sincere. The cabin was roomy and comfortable. Everything was rustic but clean and working. Nothing else could have been done to make us more comfortable. If you are over staying in plastic packaged hotel rooms you are in for a treat staying in Rawley Springs cabins.
