The View is spectacular. The house is spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was remodeled in 2009. It features a 6 burner gas stove, stainless steel appliances, double ovens, wine refrigerator, prep sink in the center island and granite counter tops. It is a cooks delight! Or BBQ on the gas grill on the deck just outside of the kitchen while enjoying outdoor seating with a view. Both bedrooms have Cal King size beds and flat screen TVs. There is a small room off of the living room that has a day bed with a trundle, just big enough for a couple of kids or pushed together can make another King size bed. The Hot Tub is located on a private deck just outside the Master bedroom and is great for late night star gazing, early morning sunrise soaking and daytime relaxing. The living room is cozy with a wood fireplace and a large flat screen TV that is connected to Directv Satellite programing, and there is a wide variety of movies on Blueray & DVD. But who has time to watch TV when there is so much to do? Stay in or go explore the area, either way you'll love it.
We have lived most of our lives in Northern California. Bodega Bay is our 'Happy Place'. We work full time and plan to retire one day to Bodega Bay.
Elaine (aka Nikki) Scoggan purchased this house in 1997
We spent our Honeymoon at a home up the hill and around the corner from Southern Exposure in 1985. We've rented vacation homes in Bodega Bay and vacationed with our family for many years until we were able to buy Southern Exposure.
The house is spread out, it's nice to separate from family or other guests if you choose. I love being able to hear the ocean when the windows are open. The beep from the fog horn on Bodega Head is comforting. I love walking on the beach and looking for shells. Every season has special events that are fun to do, for instance in April the Fisherman's festival is always fun with a boat building contest and race along with craft booths and the blessing of the fleet. In October Art Trails is fun to explore different local artists studios. Local farms and wine tasting are always fun to visit. I love to take a drive along the coast. And after doing all or none of that I can come back to the house and relax! The house is a Home!
We all have to say that your home in Bodega Bay is just wonderful. I've found myself daydreaming about sitting in the sunroom gazing out to the Pacific my first day back to work. The house had everything needed and more. Next time we vacation on the Northern Californian coast we will be sure to make reservations with you again. Highlights of our trip included horseback riding at Chanslor Ranch, beach combing on 3 different beaches, a visit to the school house from the movie "The Birds" and last but not least soaking in the hot tub back at the house.
Thank you for the great hospitality and amenities you offer. I can tell you your home tops the list above all the rentals we have stayed in the past.
This was our second and final stop on a week-long vacation in CA. As soon as we walked into Southern Exposure, we were blown away by the breathtaking views! Southern Exposure lived up to everything we expected and more. There were four of us staying and the size accommodated us perfectly. We cooked dinners in the beautiful kitchen and played the game of LIFE a few of the nights, which made us feel right at home. Some of the activities we did while there were; kayaking in the bay, whale watching, visiting various wineries (the Krug winery is our favorite by far!), relaxing on the beach, and more! We hope to someday return to this rental and quite town. It was a great way to end our trip and we were sad to leave. Thanks Nikki, for renting your home to us. – Michaela, Josh, Taryn and Ryan
Our stay - 11/15 to 11/19, 2014
My Wife, daughter and myself arrived in the later evening having no idea what to expect, ... Especially being our first ever experience in Bodega Bay. Waking up the next morning not wanting to get out of a very comfortable, warm bed, we walked out of the bedrooms to find ourselves in a state of aw. From Southern Exposure's complete R & R atmosphere to its amazing views it offers of Bodega Bay.
When we convinced ourselves to walk out of the front door to enjoy the mid 60 degrees day, we discovered Bodega Bay does compliment Southern Exposure well. We went to candy and Kites, gathered sea rocks, shells at 2 different beaches, tried 3 different type of restaurants, and ended our 4 day stay looking at our calender to book our next visit.
Thank you Nikki and Jim for offering us your rental and recommending some points of interest. My family and I will be making this a regular year to year visit. : )

This was the final destination on our trip to California and eagerly anticipated, sadly the house did not live up to our expectations.
The second bedroom was very small with no space to store any clothes, no drawers just a small wardrobe which housed the hoover and numerous miscellaneous items.
There were no blinds in the window of this room and sunlight streamed through from dawn!
The hot tub was good but there were no easy chairs to relax outside just a rusty old sunbed which had seen better days.
Rubbish had not been collected from previous occupants and the shower in the master bedroom was broken and took several days to fix.
However, the kitchen is very modern and spacious and the property enjoys lovely views.
The area is lovely with some fantastic harbour seafood restaurants with lots of places to visit concerning the 'Birds' film.
My husband and I just returned from Bodega Bay and a week in this rental. This house is awesome. The kitchen is amazing (I want it!). Everything we needed was provided. The neighborhood the house is located in is very beautiful and was nice to stroll around in. The wildlife were quite amusing, standing at the kitchen window in the afternoons practically demanding to be fed. Nikki provided a huge bin of seed in the garage so we were able to easily accommodate them :-) We did a lot of driving around the area to wineries, cheese farms and such. The location was great for that. Bodega Bay is a beautiful little sleepy kind of town. We did find nice restaurants and markets in town, but did most of our major grocery shopping in Sebastapol which is only 16 miles up the road. I would definitely come back here. This place is very quiet and relaxing and Nikki was great to work with. We had the added excitement of being there when the Napa earthquake hit which we could feel, but the house withstood the shaking with no problem.
Three of us had a wonderful two nights at Southern Exposure. The beds were very comfortable, the master bathroom was fabulous and the view is amazing. We spent most of our time on the sunporch, watching the boats cruising in the bay, and the fog rolling in and out. The kitchen is equipped with just about any gadget, pan, utensil that you could want, and there is a terrific spice cabinet. We were amazed to see a good supply of flour, sugar and coffee too! The house is located in a subdivision on a hill, and we felt safe walking morning and evening. The views on the walk were spectacular, too. Nikki (the owner) was great to work with.
We had a fantastic 5 night stay in the property and would highly recommend staying here. The communication between Nikki and myself was first class. This house would have to be one of the best presented homes we have ever stayed in and we would of loved to have stayed for longer than the 5 nights. Kitchen is out of this world with the most well stocked spices etc you have ever seen. No need to eat out in Bodega Bay as this kitchen just inspires you to create chef like meals...Hot tub is fantastic and very private. Amazing 180degree of the ocean from the house. The walk from the house to the waters edge is approx 1.1miles. I would suggest you stock up on groceries in a supermarket outside of Bodega Bay as the selection there is limited and expensive also. All in all a phenomenal property with a phenomenal view!!!!
Bodega Bay is a small fishing village north of San Francisco by about an hour. The bay itself is a sheltered cove. There is plenty to do fishing, canoeing, diving, surfing up the coast a little ways, and playing on the beach. There is horseback riding, golfing at the Bodega Harbour Golf Links, and wine tasting in nearby Sonoma Valley. In April, the Fisherman's festival brings out many arts and craft booths, they host a boat building contest and have live music. In July, they have a fireworks show that can be seen from our deck. In August, the food, and wine festival features many local restaurants, beer and wine makers. In October, Art trails offers open artist studios to the public featuring local artists in Sonoma county. Twice a year there is whale watching on Bodega Head, park rangers are there to answer questions and give information. Year round enjoy the beaches, fly kites, explore the many little shops in Bodega Bay and eat crab and clam chowder!
