We love living in North Park and we are also passionate about traveling. Marjorie is an oil painter whose artwork can be viewed in the cottage. Steve is an avid bicyclist who has traveled from coast to coast in the US as well as throughout Europe. Their dog, Maya, loves to hike in the nearby canyons.
Marjorie Taylor purchased this cottage in 2007
We not only bought a vacation rental here, but also live in North Park. The location can't be beat. This eclectic neighborhood offers the best of San Diego.
We love walking to the nearby restaurants, hiking in the canyon or hopping on the bus downtown to catch a ballgame. Its a quick drive to the beach, and just minutes from the Zoo and Balboa Park. Music, Theatre and Art events are within walking distance.
We had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Needing to book on short notice and unable to fully commit due to a family member's health issue, Marjorie worked with us to give us the flexibility to book the day prior to our travel plans. We were able to make the trip and were very grateful for being afforded flexibility. The home was cozy, cute and very clean. The three of us were very comfortable with plenty of space to relax and unwind. They have pretty much thought of everything down to the smallest detail. We cooked many meals and had everything we needed to prepare and serve our gourmet creations. The location was perfect, so close to everything. North Park is a wonderful place to stroll and visit. Driving wise it seemed we never had to drive more than 15 minutes to visit any of the many San Diego attractions. The patio was everything we had hoped. We spent long evenings enjoying our meals, sipping wine and chatting in our own private paradise. Thanks to Marjorie and Steve for wonderful visit.
If you are reading this review, you have found your vacation rental. You don't need to look any farther! We had a wonderful stay at Maya's Cottage. Marjorie was very accommodating as I had to text her that our plane was going to be late due to weather. She met us at the Cottage and gave us the tour and let us know that she was only a text away if were to need anything. We didn't. Everything we needed was right there in the house. The pictures on this site are just what it looks like - no surprises! We enjoy being outside and took advantage of the beautiful backyard patio (complete with a gas grill) for our evening meals and the sunny front patio for morning coffee. There was always a parking spot right in front of the house. The neighborhood was very safe. While in San Diego we enjoyed going to the Marines Recruit Depot Museum, Torrey Pines, Cabrillo National Monument, Riding bikes on the beach, La Jolla, Coronado Island, sunsets over the ocean, and seeing many other things the city has to offer. We are already talking about when we can come back. Thanks Marjorie and Steve!
Obviously we are very happy with Maya's cottage or we would not keep returning. The cottage is charming and in a great location. The welcome basket, orange juice, and milk are a wonderful touch. We have family in the area so we stay here when we can.
We really enjoyed our stay and appreciated the convenience to so much of San Diego. Marjorie and Steve were especially friendly and helpful. We did have some wifi issues but they worked hard to resolve them. The only slight drawback for us was that we are used to a king size bed and the storage for clothes was limited.
This cottage is a little gem in the heart of North Park.
We have stayed there before and it has become our home away from home when we visit San Diego.
Charming and cozy, it also has a beautiful patio with lush landscaping. A nice place to unwind after a day of exploring. The interior is well equipped with all the amenities a traveler needs and the cottage owner's beautiful art work decorates the walls
The owners, Marjorie and Steve are attentive and helpful and make you feel at home. We couldn't have been happier! We will be back this summer!
I just came back from spending several days at Maya’s Cottage. This was my second visit and for a good reason. For me, there is no better place to stay in the San Diego area. It’s charming, inviting, and close to so many things, whether walking or driving. I love being able to “come home” at the end of the day to my own little cottage. And let me tell you, it is stocked with everything you need, and then some. I love being surrounded by the beautiful oil paintings by one of the owners, Marjorie- she is truly a gifted artist. Both Marjorie and her husband, Steve, are incredibly hospitable, considerate, accommodating, and friendly, without being invasive.
One of my favorite spots is the backyard patio area. It truly is a private little sanctuary and I just love having the outdoor space. I have already booked the cottage again for May and look forward to returning to this wonderful little haven. Thank you Marjorie and Steve! : - )
