About Property Managers, Shawn and Jeanette Lawson (Kiawah Island Getaways):
Shawn's family discovered Kiawah in 1978 and returned year after year for two-week vacations. In 1985 we drove our VW Bug convertible to Kiawah and Shawn introduced me to Kiawah. I remember stepping over the dune boardwalk out in front of the Kiawah Island Inn and seeing Kiawah's wide, sandy beach for the first time - it was so brilliant it practically danced before my eyes. It was during this vacation that the two of us decided to set our sights on moving to this beautiful and fascinating place permanently.
In 1988 our dreams came true and our U-Haul rattled across the Kiawah Island bridge (at that time it was nothing more than a wood-planked bridge). For the next four years we rented a 1-bedroom villa, 4251 Mariner's Watch. Shawn was so thrilled to be living on the island that he applied for the personalized South Carolina license plate 'KIAWAH' (which we still have today).
In 1992, we built our first home on the island at 134 Conifer Lane. During construction, I gave birth to our first son Benjamin - he arrived 2 months early in an ambulance outside of the Kiawah Island Fire Station.
In 2001, we purchased our first villa, a 1-bedroom, beachside Seascape and Kiawah Island Getaways was born. Once we got our feet wet with the villa rental business, it was a like a fever for us. We both really enjoyed furnishing, decorating and maintaining the villas - not to mention the new found fun of meeting and talking to all sorts of people about Kiawah. Because we really enjoy what we do, other Kiawah property owners noticed and we started managing their properties as well.
Our whole family loves Kiawah and running Kiawah Island Getaways is a true family-run business. We personally prepare each villa prior to your arrival - because we want your stay to be perfect. We want you to fall in love with Kiawah too...and we know you will.
The Sunny Day at Turtle Cove offers sunny lagoon views, graced with grand oaks and Spanish moss. Complete with 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms,1 queen bed, 2 twin beds, 2 inflatable Aero beds and is a 7 minute walk from the beach.
The Sunny Day was a PERFECT "home away from home." Where I spent half of the time busily writing (in the sunshine on the nearby dock - or in the sunFILLED condo), our family joined me for the other half of our stay. The condo was spotless and wonderfully maintained. We cannot wait to return.
Kiawah Island, beach and bike riding are wonderful. Facility is excellent. Only downside is it's almost an hour to Charleston.
The Sunny Day is exactly as advertised. It is in a perfect spot to access all parts of the island. The villa was very clean and well maintained. The owners were very helpful! I know we will miss the Sunny Day.
I asked for sunny, comfortable, clean and cozy. Sunny Days was all of that and more. Between guests, I was able to complete the first draft of my novel and I loved strolling or biking the 10 mile beach and miles of trails while gathering inspiration for my writing.
If you aren't looking for peaceful bliss, Charleston is a short drive away. Delicious restaurants are everywhere, shopping is as close as nearby Freshfields or a bit further on in Charleston (including the 6 blocks of Market Square with local vendors). And--of course--there's always golf.
The week after Labor Day is the Perfect Time to visit Kiawah. We practically had the entire island to ourselves while enjoying the warm surf and wide beach. The bike paths are Eden-esque and the home architecture and golf course views are awe-inspiring.
The island's natural life is very well preserved. Saw many herons, deer, dolphin and alligators. We even encountered a 12 foot alligator crossing the road - so sorry we didn't have our camera ready! Hoped to see one of the islands many bob cats, but maybe better luck next time.
Our stay at the Sunny Day villa was incredibly comfortable. This villa is wonderfully decorated and spotless – no detail is forgotten. The kitchen was very well equipped and soft, fluffy, high quality linens are provided. Very tranquil lagoon view with herons and alligators plus an easy bike ride or walk to the beach. The villa is also very close to The Sanctuary which is a work of art in and of itself including the landscaping.
The Newton Farms grocery store at FreshFields Village is unsurpassed by any grocer I have ever visited and we enjoyed warm, night swims and basketball in the pool at Night Heron park. We enjoyed a long bike ride to the Ocean Course and relaxed on the clubhouse porch before we headed back.
We will be back!

My family really enjoyed our stay here. Lovely place with a lot of extra touches. Nice linens. Extras like detergent, plastic wrap, shampoo, soap, paper towels, etc were great. Definitely recommend getting bikes! We loved riding into Freshfield on Johns Island and also to the marsh tower on the other end of Kiawah. There is a convenience center just a quick ride away for forgotten items or a quick meal. The beach is uncrowded and the island is beautiful. Charleston is a great day trip. Restaurants on the island are pricey, but kitchen here is well equipped for most any meal. (Stay away from Spice Asian Fusion Restaurant, the food was terrible). Property owners were helpful and obviously experienced. They were very quick to respond to our questions.Highly recommend.
