Cocktail hour is at the front of our house, while watching the sun set over the San Jacinto mountains. The days are spent by our pool, where the sun will shine most of the day.
Tired of long cold, never ending winters in Sudbury,Ontario, Canada; We decided we had had enough! It was time to invest in a property in a warm climate with lots to do! A home where we could eventually retire and live part of the year! In the meantime we can spend some time enjoying everything Palm Springs has to offer.
It truly is a dream come true for us! With a perfect climate all year round, 360 days of sunshine, golfing, hiking, fine dining, shopping and within driving distance to LA, San Diego, San Francisco, and Vegas, it is the perfect calm in a beautiful oasis! Everything you could hope to do on a vacation is here. It's one of the only cities in North America where you can spend the day at the ocean on one day and the next day you can be downhill skiing.!!! (Big Bear is only an hour away). We bought our house last year and we enjoyed 4 fantastic months of bliss! We have put our home up for rent as we find we cannot enjoy as much time there as we had hoped, and we want other people to have the opportunity to enjoy it as much as we do!
We chose Cathedral City, firstly because we did not want to be in a gated community and held to rules and regulations, do's and don'ts!! We wanted a home, in a middle class community, and not feel like a tourist but a resident. We can explore the ethnicity of the area (Mexican) and enjoy and learn from the language, food, and festivals. Cathedral City is smack right in the middle of the Coachella Valley. It has everything we need. We are exactly right in between Rancho Mirage and downtown Palm Springs. Being 10 minutes from the airport after a long flight is wonderful!
We saw our home on-line and flew into Palm Springs within 2 days to view it. It was the first home we saw in the dozens that we looked at! We fell in love with the home the minute we walked into the door and saw the spectacular 10 ft. high, hand carved wooden doors on all the rooms, the beautiful mexican tiles, the huge pool and spa, and the palm trees! The mountain views from everywhere in the house, and the adobe style of the house with a gas stove was all that we could have hoped for. Coming from a cold climate, and never seeing a palm tree, except on vacation, is a dream come true! We immediately put in an offer and we moved in within a couple months. The first thing we did was plant an orange tree!
Our home is situated in a very convenient area of Palm Springs. Within a 10 minute walk you have an organic grocery store on one side and an amazing mexican grocery store 'Cardena's'.
Hiking, golfing, is all within a 5-10 minuted drive. Serious dining options for you with a few recommendations, one being 'Le Vallauris', the best french restaurant set in a beautiful outdoor garden in downtown Palm Springs and Catalan a spanish restaurant in Rancho Mirage.
As for nightly entertainment 'The Follies', a song and dance review, is a must see (all the entertainers are professional but 55+) and it will make you laugh and cry. This is their last year of a 25 year run, so make sure to book your tickets. The tramway, (8,000 ft.) elevation is 15 minutes away. You can hike and camp on the mountain top, there are restaurants and bars as well. So many things to do and see, you could spend months in Palm Springs and still not see and do everything!
