Rose Villa was built by our father as his summer home. It was meant to be a secluded and private escape from the insanity that is Istanbul. Success!
With 2 large double bedrooms one single guest suite and a nursary/childs room, it is very comfortable for a large family or for a couple looking for privacy and a chance for romance.
The fully functional kitchen and open first floor plan connects the kitchen to the dining and lounge area keeps everyone in eye sight.
The natural gas water heater and radiator boiler keeps the house warm and cozy year round, and you never run out of hot water for either of the two showers and the bathtub upstairs.
The Rose Villa interior was designed and built with natural woods for a warm, rustic, inviting feel. The furnishings are uncomplicated and add to the inviting feel. The antiques through out the home are from the family, not purchased for effect.
Although electronic entertainment exists in the form of Satellite TV, DVD, and CD player, they do not dominate the space and the WiFi hub is centrally located in the home and provides service everywhere inside the house and on the front and back balcony.
Enjoy a walk in the garden surrounded by Roses, flowering bushes, trees (all of which are named) and a soothing sit down on the jetty over the river. During the summer season you can even enjoy the portable 4 1/2 mt by 1 mt pool.
Lee (an American) and Jale (British-Turkish) are tutors in the Behavioral Sciences Department of a private university in Istanbul. We love to travel and meet new people. Currently our lives are dedicated to helping others live a life of peace and balance, and making sure our young son has the best opportunity at life we can give him.
Jale Kerimol Johnson purchased this villa in 1990
When our father got this property is was a vacant lot next to a river. He built the home with love and the future in mind. Many of the plantings he did. We were happy to enjoy this home with him until 2011 when he passed. We have kept it and maintained it for our own holidays and escapes since, and have decided to share that with others. We have had a wonderful time entertaining groups of friends and family here, along with just getting away from it all for a short break.
Some of the Unique things about this property are the closeness of the Beach and the river access with a jetty. There is also government limitations on what can and cannot happen on the other side of the river, which means that nothing can be built there, although some campers may use that space. The plantings of honeysuckle and the natural blackberry growth on the property lines along with the natural willow growth means that the groomed garden remain private and secluded.
Agva is and ancient word meaning 'water', and Agva Village is surrounded on three sides by water. Both of the rivers on the east and west empty into the Black Sea creating 8 km of sandy beach.
Those rivers are surrounded by rock hills with many trails suitable for climbing, trekking or biking. Our friends Celal and Serpil at the Himalaya Hotel offer Trekking and Biking tours with advance notice if they are available.
We provide a one person Kayak and a small motor boat for touring up the river and to the riverside of the Beach. There are a lot of Restaurants, and Hotel Cafes along the river.
There are many small bays and coves around Agva which are accessible by car. Most of them are small Villages.
If the peace and tranquility of Rose Villa become unbearable and you need the hustle and bustle of a big city, Istanbul is just 90 minutes away by car.
The Asian Side of Istanbul has a lot to offer from the Shopping on Bagdad Street to the beautiful Princess Islands and the Maidens Tower just off the Uskudar coastline in the Bosporus.
On the European side you have all of the Ancient Byzantine/Ottoman sites and Museums like the Spice Market, Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Dolmabace Palace and all the other palaces along the Bosporus, Galata Tower and Pera.
