For four weeks the Dunoir Valley Retreat has been our home,
and we have been happy here! The house is beautifully situated in the valley, with great views from every window. It is full of light and very, very comfortable!
It’s a long way to Yellowstone and The Grand Teton, but these parks are worth the drive: they’re everything you expect them to be. Our favorite spot, a stretch of the Snake River near the Oxbow Bend is only 50 minutes away. We also loved the Antilope Flats and the Moose-Wilson Road and of course the National Museum of Wildlife Art!
A very pleasant surprise was the discovery of what the Dunoir Valley itself has to offer:
beautiful scenery (I love the “badlands”), wildlife in abundance, and a friendly town only 10 mi away (the Friday night rodeo is a must!).
On the property of the house we saw: a moose with 2 calves, white-tailed deer, chipmunks, ground squirrels, mountain bluebird, tree swallow, mourning dove, white- crowned sparrow, robin, brewer’s blackbird, northern flicker…
Five minutes away, along Union Pass we found a great horned owl with two young ones, ready to fly the nest.
In Dubois, along Horse Creek Rd: coyote, mule deer, bald eagle, osprey, red-tailed hawk, turkey vulture, yellow warbler, cowbird…
Along Hwy 26 : moose, elk, deer, even a grizzly bear with two cubs, coming out of Shoshone National Forest! It’s sounds unbelievable, but we were lucky enough to see (and photograph) them twice!!!
We enjoyed the hot, dry weather – but we were sorry to hear about the wildfires…
We are sad to have to leave this house and the Valley.
We have been happy here….
