For four weeks the Dunoir Valley Retreat has been our home,
and we have been happy here! The house is beautifully situated in the valley, with great views from every window. It is full of light and very, very comfortable!
It’s a long way to Yellowstone and The Grand Teton, but these parks are worth the drive: they’re everything you expect them to be. Our favorite spot, a stretch of the Snake River near the Oxbow Bend is only 50 minutes away. We also loved the Antilope Flats and the Moose-Wilson Road and of course the National Museum of Wildlife Art!
A very pleasant surprise was the discovery of what the Dunoir Valley itself has to offer:
beautiful scenery (I love the “badlands”), wildlife in abundance, and a friendly town only 10 mi away (the Friday night rodeo is a must!).
On the property of the house we saw: a moose with 2 calves, white-tailed deer, chipmunks, ground squirrels, mountain bluebird, tree swallow, mourning dove, white- crowned sparrow, robin, brewer’s blackbird, northern flicker…
Five minutes away, along Union Pass we found a great horned owl with two young ones, ready to fly the nest.
In Dubois, along Horse Creek Rd: coyote, mule deer, bald eagle, osprey, red-tailed hawk, turkey vulture, yellow warbler, cowbird…
Along Hwy 26 : moose, elk, deer, even a grizzly bear with two cubs, coming out of Shoshone National Forest! It’s sounds unbelievable, but we were lucky enough to see (and photograph) them twice!!!
We enjoyed the hot, dry weather – but we were sorry to hear about the wildfires…
We are sad to have to leave this house and the Valley.
We have been happy here….

We have been coming to DuBois for that last 5-6 years and the Dunoir Valley Retreat was truly a retreat. The home is spacious, with excellent and relaxing views of the mountains. We enjoyed every moment we stayed there. It was a great base location to all of our favorite spots The owners were very quick to answer any questions we had prior to arriving. Thank you for a great time.
I'm a wildlife artist and needed a place to stay for gathering reference material, so my family and I chose the Dunoir Family Retreat. I was not disappointed. The cabin was beautiful inside, great woodwork, furniture, appliances, etc. It was clean and convenient. My children enjoyed the horses on the other side of the fence and playing in the sagebrush. I really enjoyed the location. For an artist it was perfect for gathering reference of everything Wyoming. A short drive to the south and you have the red rocks and buttes of the desert. A short drive north and you were in the Absaroka Range (also visible from the house). A little further north and west and you were in Teton or Yellowstone, not to mention Jackson. This was a great place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a great Wyoming experience.
We stayed at the Retreat for a week and had an awesome time. The place is very comfy and I especially loved the sun room where I sat and watched the birds and looked our for any other animals. I really loved the décor and the little things that were there that showed that the owners really cared about their guests having a wonderful stay. I would highly recommend this place and would definitely be back again.
Excellent accommodations. Perfect location. Quiet. Peaceful. The views were breathtaking. We loved it!
We sort of just picked Dubois, Wy on a lark as we wanted to see the Wind River mountains and avoid crowds. Dubois is perfect, although it is early yet, I suspect that this area is always quiet compared to areas closer to the national parks. We were amazed at the scenery right at the house and in every direction that we drove.
We enjoyed the house greatly. It was a luxury accommodation for the 3 adults. We all had room to spread out. The kitchen is large and well furnished.
We love the Cowboy cafe in Dubois, and ended up eating there 3 times. The pie is to die for. We did not see a lot of large mammals at the house but greatly enjoyed the ground squirrels in the back yard while we ate.
A lovely place to stay in an amazing area of the world. Troy gives ideas for some great things to do in the area. We had an amazing family get together, and I do hope to go back again in the near future.
