About Larry & Jacque Ficek

About Us

“It’s Your Dream, That Makes it Ours, Too!”

Assisting folks in finding their Alaska home and property is our passion. Professional, friendly and available service with local knowledge.

We decided long ago that it would be a natural choice to also share our local expertise and love of our great state with not just homes and properties but with vacations too.

Jacque was born on Elmendorf AFB and is an Air Force brat. Her pop served 23 1/2 years and was stationed all over the US and Tripoli Libya. After his retirement in 1982, the family moved to Wasilla Alaska and has been here since. Jacque also has a background as a Palmer and Wasilla police officer so she knows the back roads and neighborhoods very well. She became licensed in and joined her husband Larry in real estate in 2001.

Larry is a Montana transplant and fell in love with Alaska from the minute he arrived. He understands the draw to move to this amazing state. If you need any fishing tips, he is always willing to share that advice as well! He has been licensed in real estate since 1997. Larry is well versed in negotiations and the current status of the market.

We both really enjoy meeting new people and sharing our local knowledge to folks visiting our area.

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

I had to travel to Wasilla for work. It was suggested that I stay in a cabin or a bed and breakfast because of the lack of quality hotels and I was provided some recommendations. I always stay in hotels when I travel for work and so this was a new experience and I was a little uncertain. I chose to stay at the Bear Bungalow and it is one the best lodging experiences I have ever had. The cabin was very comfortable and very accommodating. Even though I did not use it much the kitchen was well-stocked with everything you would need. The cabin view off the back deck was amazing. The owners were very accessible/helpful by phone and answered all my questions. I think I enjoyed the cabin so much because of how much it felt like being in a home. If you are going to be in or around Wasilla you need to stay here, you won't be disappointed, in fact you will be pleasantly surprised just like I was. If I get the pleasure of going back to Alaska I would want to stay here again and again!

My wife and I were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary with a first ever trip to Alaska and chose the Wasilla area because it was centrally located to the many areas of the state we wanted to visit. After considerable research we chose Black Bear Bungalow for our 18 day stay and it certainly was the correct choice. The reservation process was easy and flawless. When we arrived we were thrilled by the location of the cabin. It is secluded, but minutes from the conveniences of town. The views from the back decks were breathtaking and the cabin contained every ammenity one could possibly imagine. Larry and Jacque were tremendous host that went above and beyond anything we have ever experienced during our extensive travels. Upon arrival we discovered that they had left us a 25th Anniversary gift which included vegetable and cheese platters, a rather large cheesecake, a bottle of non-alcoholic sparkling cider, and a beautiful card. Their thoughfulness made our stay very special. They were always available if needed, but never intrusive. From the beginning we were left with the impression that their main concern was that our first ever trip to Alaska was the trip of a lifetime and it certainly was! We are already planning another visit to Wasilla and wouldn't consider staying with anyone else. Thank you Larry and Jacque for an unforgettable experience and a lifetime of special memories.

What can I say that others haven't? We first stayed in the Black Bear cabin and even our teenage grandson's were impressed. It was everything that we wanted, needed and more. My oldest grandson said it was the first time he had ever gone home from a vacation with all his clothes clean, ha! We were fortunate to stay in the Fisherman's Folly after another rental later in the month was a disaster and we couldn't stay there. Jacque asked me to compare the two cabins and, really, it's very difficult. Other than the decor they both go above-and-beyond the usual vacation rental and if we could have brought either cabin home with us, we would have! I could imagine us, a retired couple, living comfortably in either of them. Truly a home away from home!

Owner's Response: Hi there Anne, we are so happy to have you stay at one of our cabins and then choose to stay with us again later on in your trip. I am sorry the other rental, not one of ours, did not work out for you but it is fun to hear reviews on two different cabins from the same guests! Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us and we look forward to seeing you on your next Alaskan adventure! Jacque & Larry

My family and I stayed at this cabin for 3 nights. It was very clean and was fully equipped with everything you would need during your stay. We were very comfortable there and the mountain views were awesome. The location was quiet and peaceful. The kids enjoyed the board games, books, and the satelite tv. Having two decks to sit out on and take in the mountain views were relaxing. Also being able to have a grilll and picnic table outside was convenient. The wireless internet was helpful in planning out our daily excursions. Hatchers Pass, hiking at Butte, a visit to Palmer, and the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Museum in Wasilla were some of the great local places to visit. Larry and Jacque were very insightful on things to do in the area and made our stay enjoyable, making us feel at home. Great place to stay and priced fairly. Would recommend to friends and relatives.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the great review! We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay at the cabin. It is good to hear that you had some relax time mixed in with all the adventures. Sometimes that is hard to do with all the options of things to do here... Maybe next time we can get you in to see the reindeer, HOOK (yeah, I had to-ha) you up with a local river guide for salmon fishing or give you some more trails to conquer locally. Whenever your family comes back to Wasilla, we would love for you to stay with us again-you are always welcome! P.S. Thank you for taking such good care of the cabin too. We did notice your extra efforts to leave it clean for us. :) Jacque & Larry

What more could you need?? Perfectly Perfect.

We stayed at the black Bear cabin for 5 nights in December, using it as a base while searching property to move up to Wasilla. This cabin was just perfect in every way. First off, it was close to everything( 5 minutes)...restaurants, grocery stores, even a movie theatre if you needed one (we didn't), but tucked away enough to feel secluded. Adoreable, immaculate cabin...spotlessly clean, comfortably warm, cozy and inviting, amazing view. They thought of everything one could possibly need, except food and toothpaste. We would never consider staying anywhere else, and when we move up to Alaska in spring will insist that our visitors stay here if we can't accomidate them. Thank you Larry and Jacque for a wonderful, memorable get away.

Owner's Response: Hi there Georgie, thank you for the awesome review! Larry and I really appreciate your kind words. You and your guests are always welcome! We have three other themed cabins to choose from too (all with the same amenities). If you want to try a different theme you can choose from Alaska Dreams (a mix of all things Alaskan), Fishermans Folly (yep, fishing), Moose Manor (all things moose) or stay with Black Bear Bungalow. Moose Manor has the same views that Black Bear Bungalow does but it does not have the extra deck off the bedroom. Other than that they are very similar. We hope your hunt for a new Alaska home goes well and we wish you all the best. Jacque & Larry

This charming cabin exceeded my expectations of atmosphere, location and comfort. We loved the bear theme. We especially loved the views and feeling of being out in the woods and comfortable beds. It was very well stocked so we made it our home after one visit for food provisions at the near by Walmart, Carrs and Target. Anyone wanting to experience living and touring around Wassila, Anchorage, Whittier and other near by areas should treat themselves to this. Thank goodness it's a no smoking cabin so it smelled clean and fresh. Jackie and Larry are also very helpful giving you ideas for fun.
