I am an avid runner and cyclist and the mother of two small children. My husband is an artist who also has his studio in the building where we also run an art gallery and full service restaurant (currently on hiatus).

Joan Morykin purchased this apartment in 2004

I first visited Jim Thorpe on a weekend get away from New York City in 1998 and immediately fell in love with the town - its proximity to New York and Philadelphia was perfect for a weekend retreat and I bought a small weekend house. A number of years later, my artist husband was looking for studio space and we purchased a 15,000 sq. ft. former wireworks factory and spent six years fixing up the building. As an avid runner, the beautiful mountain trails still hold a fascination for me every time I go out. This town is perfect to raise a family - there is an old fashioned candy store, a classic 5&10 and easy access to the Lehigh River and a recreational lake park, skiing and cycling.

Refreshing Get-Away

We have stayed in Jim Thorpe on numerous occasions. This was our first time staying at The Loft, but it won't be our last! This place is phenomenal. Joan accommodated our late arrival and even provided us with a full tour of the Loft, the Gallery and the Flow Restaurant. We hope the restaurant will be open for business on our next visit.

The Loft was clean and had everything we needed for our get-away. We were able to store our bikes safely in the Mud Room. The evening we arrived was a bit chilly, Joan had created a warm and cozy environment by starting the pellet stove and gas heater. She provided us with complete instructions on how to operate everything we needed.

We will be back! And we will definitely recommend this place to all our friends!

Girls Weekend Away

Where do I begin... Driving into Jim Thorpe I was overwhelmed with the story book appeal. Once we arrived to the loft my girlfriends and I were even more overwhelmed with how perfect our accommodations at the loft were. The pictures provided prior to our arrival already had me excited for what we were going to experience on our stay, but my expectations were far exceeded. When the owner, Joan, greeted us she gave us a complete tour and was incredibly accommodating. Their facility has so much to offer and admire. The loft is the only place to stay in the building so we all appreciated how private it is as well. Being an admirer and partaker or the arts it was such a delight to have their art gallery below up to explore. The work exhibited there is incredible and inspiring. All the details of the decorations to the spacious living areas filled with morning light each day, made me feel right at home while enjoying a relaxing get away. I fell in love with all the great little shops in Jim Thorpe and came home with a mini library from one of the amazing local book stores. Jim Thorpe is a must visit town and I could not imagine returning again without staying in this must visit loft!

Great time at great rental in Jim Thorpe for married couple with two young boys

My wife and I just spent six nights with our young sons (5 and 3 years old) at the loft in Jim Thorpe. We had a great time, and really enjoyed its uniqueness and spaciousness. It was a pretty rainy week, but the loft itself is very spacious and has an enormous, window-filled "mud room" adjacent to it that our boys used to ride their bikes, skateboards, play hockey, soccer, and just get their energy out on those rainy days. One highlight was the rushing creek under the building (visible through glass window in restaurant downstairs). The loft is about 10-15 min walk downhill to center of town, enough to get some exercise but not so much we had to drive or bike. It's also steps from the Switchback Trail, which is a beautiful wooded trail leading about 3-4 miles up to Mauch Chunk Lake Park (which was great for swimming, boating, and fishing). Joan, the owner, was very nice, helpful and responsive.

Cycling training camp

This was the second year our cycling team used The Loft for our spring training cycling camp. The loft is a perfect retreat for this type of event, this year we had four cyclist who stayed for 4 nights and had "day visitors" who came up just for the day, while we rode 75-105 miles each day. The friendly, accomodating owners, endless availability of hot water showers, washer/dryer, pleanty of bicycle storage/maintenance availability, and improved amenities from previous year make our stay the highlight of our cycling season. Everyone looks forward to returning next year. Having wi-fi access available to "keep in touch" with our corporate responsibilities is also a plus. Jim Thorpe area is also the perfect area for recreational activities during the day, with numerous eating establishments available within walking distance. Victor's art work in the gallery, and the renovated old factory building are just incredible. If you are into outdoor recreation activities, grab your friends and stay at the Loft. There is plenty to do, day and night, the owners are readily accessible, friendly, and accomodating...

Owner's Response: Mike, thank you! It is so wonderful to see the loft being utilized by people who really love getting out and enjoying the incredible landscape of the area and riding up to 100 miles per day is certainly an impressive way to do that! We are glad to be able to accommodate cyclists and provide a unique base camp for your cycling training camp. You might be pleased to know we have moved in an even larger dining room table that should be able to accommodate more riders for a hearty dinner at the end of a day of intense riding. Thank you and see you again next year!

What a find!

This quirky and charming loft apartment was a wonderful find. Two of us needed lodging while we competed in a local triathlon. The hotels were all sold out - so we stumbled on this great apartment in Jim Thorpe. It's in a beautifully restored factory, upstairs from a restaurant (closed while we were there, sigh) and art gallery. The owner provided an extensive and interesting tour. Other restaurants were a short walk away. This is where I'll stay when I head to Jim Thorpe to play tourist.
