Overview

Saugatuck / Douglas Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Recently renovated cottage from top to bottom offering first availability summer of 2011. All new electric, plumbing, cabinets, appliances and electronics along with interior finishes, not the least of which is the newly refinished hardwood floors that were discovered under year's old carpeting. In addition to the complete renovation, we more recently made a significant investment in 2013, replacing the windows along with structural renovation and encapsulation of the crawlspace, eliminating humidity in the house, further mitigated by complete replacement of all HVAC ductwork.

You'll enjoy the peaceful setting from your picture window seat in the living room that affords a full view of the front yard (and the occasional black squirrels that pass through). The 40' HD LED TV and BluRay player provide traditional television content as well as NetFlix movies and other entertainment options. The hide-a-bed couch in the living room provides sleeping accommodations for two additional guests [for the maximum 6 for the property].

The master bedroom features its own bathroom along with Olympic Queen Sleep Number bed, 28' LED TV and closet. The second bedroom is likewise equipped with a 28' LED TV and two Twin Beds along with a small closet.

The full featured kitchen is equipped with gas range, microwave and refrigerator in the midst of ample counter space along with brand new cabinets. You'll also find a stacked washer and dryer quieted by its closet in the corner of the kitchen.

In the midst of the renovation we made an effort to retain a few relics from the original house such as the cased entry into the kitchen [retained the North trim piece with all its flaws!], the 2-panel doors [two were converted to pocket doors and the other two retained in their original state, complete with glass door knobs].

Location, optimized space along with all the conveniences and comforts to make your stay in Saugatuck one to be remembered!

About Dave Boller

We are Dave & Laurie Boller and are pleased that you're visiting our listing!

Originally from Florida [Dave grew up in Tampa - Laurie grew up in Key West], we moved to the Midwest in 1995, raising two children in the Chicago suburbs along with our Labrador Retriever.

We enjoy the RV lifestyle, having traveled the country in a travel trailer and now a motorhome, which currently is our principal residence while we engage in seasonal employment at recreational venues around the country.

With that, it's easy to guess that we enjoy all things outdoors, be it hiking mountain trails or walks on the beach and everything in between.

Dave Boller purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Dave Boller chose Saugatuck / Douglas

Following a vacation along the Michigan shore July of 2010 we found ourselves making day trips back to the various communities, finally settling on Saugatuck for its small harbor town appeal along with the shopping, restaurants, beach and access to Lake Michigan. We picked this particular property because of its immediate proximity to town while leveraging the elevation of the hill to escape the congestion of the business district.

What makes this cottage unique

Access to town along with a peaceful neighborhood setting. Sipping morning coffee while sitting in the livingroom picture window will be a great way to start the day. Five minutes out the front door you can be making your choice where you'll be having breakfast in town afterwhich you can enjoy a walk along the harbor or ride the chain ferry to the other side of the river.

Great neighborhood. Walk downtown!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed over the weekend for a wedding we attended in town. I chose the home based on it's proximity to town, the fact that it was pet-friendly, had two bathrooms (one of us and one for the in-laws) and had great reviews. I was not disappointed.

The home is in a quiet, well-kept neighborhood that was enjoyabole to walk our baby and dog through. We were also able to easily walk to town for the wedding festivities (or anything else in town - restaurants, shopping, entertainment). The home is in great condition and a good representation of the photos provided online. All major essentials are there (coffee maker, towels, linens, an iron and board - even doggie treats and doggie bags!) and the bed was very comfortable. I believe it was a Sleep Number bed but we didn't even mess with the settings. The owner was also very pleasant/professional and responded quickly to any inquiries I had (pre- and post-reservation).

The only thing I'm unsure of is how close a major grocery store is for an extended stay. We traveled from Ann Arbor so we brought food with us. There are plenty of restaurants though and a small market in town that we grabbed a few things at. Also, you would need to drive to certain destinations (the beach, other nearby towns like Douglas or Holland, Saugatuck Brewing Co.!) but that was not a draw back to me.

Bottom line, we would definitely stay again!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the glowing review AND for raising the grocery store topic! The “small market in town” to which you refer is the River Market, about a half-mile walk from the cottage and offers pretty much what you’d find at a convenience store. If you fancy a longer walk [or short drive], you can venture over to Douglas and shop at the SuperValu [1.4 miles] where – although a small independent grocer – you’ll find a full range of items along with a deli, fresh vegetables, liquor, wine and beer. Out of convenience [perhaps laziness?] we tend to do about 75% of our shopping at the SuperValu when we’re staying in Saugatuck. For those desiring a large, full line grocery store, I’d suggest the Family Fare in Holland. It’s about 9 miles from the cottage and is in line with contemporary, full line grocery store chains.

Lovely home, walking distance to downtown!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a delightful stay at this property. We were with our two grown children and golden retriever and felt especially pleased to find an owner who permitted pets. The place was immaculate, the layout clever and all amenities were provided. The home is in a very quiet neighborhood on a rise just 2 minutes from the middle of downtown Saugatuck, so you don't need a car to stroll around in the Village. The HS was very near, and so playing with our dog on the grounds was easy to do, as we could let her off her leash there. We felt very fortunate to have discovered this property which has such a responsive and friendly owner (as well as a dog lover!) and would love to return again.

Great stay in cottage with everything in Saugatuck

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent 5 day stay in this cottage with everything in Saugatuck. The cottage is a short walk from the centre of town and was perfect for our stay. As mentioned in the ad the cottage has been recently renovated and is fitted out to a very high standard. Dave was extremely helpful in all of our communications - suggesting places to dine and sights to visit in the area. We really couldn't recommend this place highly enough and would definitely head back here if we are in Saugatuck again.

Wonderful Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here last summer (2013) with our young son (3 years old). We stayed for a week, and it was the perfect home away from home! He loved his little room with the twin beds, and we loved having a master bath so we didn't have to worry about waking him during naps or at night. A wonderful place to stay!
