Inside, you will find a warm spacious atmosphere, where a large family or group will feel right at home surrounded by country style antiques and decorations. There are two separate sides of the house, so families can find as little or as much privacy as desired. The 2600 square foot house has 13 rooms, 2 fully-eqiupped kitchens, a large dining room with 2 dining tables and a beautiful wood stove, 2 living rooms with 2 fireplaces, a family room complete with a tv and videos, a library/game/office room with wifi, books and games for all ages, 2 heated sun porches, a large screened-in porch where you can enjoy a family meal or quiet contemplation with the sounds of the brook behind, a deck, 5 bedrooms, and 2 full and one half bathrooms. The 5 bedrooms sleep 12 people, but there are 4 fold-out couches that sleep 7 people, and we can supply fold-out cots as needed.

Outside, you will be surrounded by the beautiful green mountains and the sound of the brook. In the winter you can enjoy cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, and children and the young at heart will enjoy our many sleds and toboggans. In the summer you can enjoy the pond with a canoe and tubes, the brick fireplace grill, jumping in the brook's water hole, hiking, volleyball, badminton, and other games. And in the fall, children will enjoy picking apples in the yard and a world of incredible foliage abounds!

The Brook House is located between Killington, Sugarbush, Pico Mountain, Mad River Glen, and the Middlebury College Snow bowl. Step off our property and more adventures await you! Nothing beats the beautiful back roads and incredible vistas of the North Hollows for biking. The whole family will enjoy the thrill of tubing on the White River, perusing antique shops, the pick-your-own berry farm, and the golf course. The beautiful center of town is only two minutes away, with it's concerts on the Park, Chamber concerts, homey cafes, pubs, and shops, and The Huntington House Restaurant with it's gourmet dining.

Our home is a unique owner built 13 room country house including an attached three room separate apartment. Could be used as one single family home or rented separately. Both parts of the house are handicap accessible. The larger side includes a kitchen, living room with a fireplace, large dining room, large family room/first floor bedroom with satellite TV, small office, large sunny glass-enclosed front porch with fold-out couch, large screened-in back porch (with a fold-out couch in the summer) and deck with the peaceful sounds of a mountain brook, full handicapped bathroom with washer and dryer. Second floor has four bedrooms and a half bath with two sinks. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and a Jacuzzi. The second and third bedrooms have full-sized beds. The fourth bedroom has one full-sized bed and one twin bed. There are also two cots available.

The small portion of the house has a large kitchen/dining/living room with a fireplace and fold out couch, bedroom with a queen-sized bed and a single bed, large sunny glass-enclosed heated porch with a fold out couch, and a full bathroom.

The first floor of the house is completely wheelchair/handicap accessible including a full bathroom with wheelchair accessible shower, toilet, sink and mirror.

About Murray family

We were thrilled to purchase this house on ten acres which was once part of our 92 acre farm that we have owned since 1988. We loved furnishing and decorating the house and it has been extremely rewarding to hear the warm praise from the many families, groups, wedding parties, and ski teams that have stayed in the Brook House.

Murray family purchased this house in 2010

Beautiful location convenient for VT adventures

  • 4 of 5
My group of 11 enjoyed themselves at this relaxing property. In the summer there are a variety of great outdoor activities nearby and the property itself has great space for outdoor fun and games. The house had plenty of rustic charm and ample cooking space for our larger group.

Terrible owners and the tap water sickening

  • 1 of 5
I'm assuming the reviews on this property are from family members or friends. This was our first time staying here on our annual get together (all adult men in our 40's). One of the guests owns a water purification company and was appalled at the water quality. It's terribly soft and feels like your showering in oil.
The place does offer a lot of space, but it's very dated and so are all the amenities (if you want to call them that). A sink didn't work, the place wasn't shoveled out and we previously made arrangements to arrive at noon, but less than 24 hours prior to arrival we were told it would have to be 2pm. Then the owner Don and his daughter stayed and cleaned as we settled in for the first 90 minutes. Yeah, they had the audacity to stay and clean for an hour and a half after we arrived.

I've made numerous phone calls and emails to Don and was told my deposit is on its way, but now 2 months later I've yet to see it. Nor has Don returned any calls or emails in the last couple weeks.

This place is not suitable for children and be very weary about staying long if the water is going to be an issue. Also, don't count on the owners, they live in Cambridge MA and obviously don't go to the location often or care about keeping regular customers. We do this annual trip and we were looking forward to returning again and again.

Please contact me if you think I'm just leaving this in spite. You'll find I'm a local business owner who is simply offended to be treated this poorly.

Lovely Vermont Farmhouse

  • 5 of 5
My family and I recently stayed at the "Brook House." I am so happy that we chose this lovely Vermont farm house to enjoy the last days of summer! The house itself is very large and homey. The bedrooms with large and airy with nice linens. The house provides many special spaces for a family to spread out in. My 7 year old could be found often in the sunroom, reading on the cozy couch. My 15 year old son loved the family room with Dish T.V. & WiFi. There is also a cozy room with a massive fireplace for cool evenings. Other evenings we would make s'mores by the firepit. My favorite room was the screened in back porch where we could enjoy a meal and listen to the babbling brook! The house was clean and well maintained, combining quaint farm house living with modern amenities. The 10 acre grounds is where we spent the most of our time! The boys loved swimming in the pond, playing in the huge yard and hiking to the waterfall which is in the backyard! An added bonus was that we were able to bring our Lab. I think she may have loved the property most of all! With so much space to run and places to swim - she was the happiest dog ever! One of the highlights of the trip was meeting our hosts, The Murrays! They were so helpful - always available to answer questions or tell us about area activities. They entertained us with funny stories, gave us a tour of the property and treated our children like family. The town of Rochester is a great place to spend time. There are some really good restaurants. We loved the cafe where you could eat inside or on the front porch. Also a cute bookstore with amazing baked goods. We rented bikes from Green Mountain Bikes and there is a market to get food and supplies. There was also a few art galleries and Mom & Pops, which sells the best maple syrup! Nearby, we also went tubing and berry picking. Originally, we had planned to take road trips but we loved the house and the town of Rochester so much that we never left! We are so happy that we were able to spend time at this special property and get to know our wonderful hosts! Alexandra
