We were thrilled to purchase this house on ten acres which was once part of our 92 acre farm that we have owned since 1988. We loved furnishing and decorating the house and it has been extremely rewarding to hear the warm praise from the many families, groups, wedding parties, and ski teams that have stayed in the Brook House.
Murray family purchased this house in 2010
My group of 11 enjoyed themselves at this relaxing property. In the summer there are a variety of great outdoor activities nearby and the property itself has great space for outdoor fun and games. The house had plenty of rustic charm and ample cooking space for our larger group.
I'm assuming the reviews on this property are from family members or friends. This was our first time staying here on our annual get together (all adult men in our 40's). One of the guests owns a water purification company and was appalled at the water quality. It's terribly soft and feels like your showering in oil.
The place does offer a lot of space, but it's very dated and so are all the amenities (if you want to call them that). A sink didn't work, the place wasn't shoveled out and we previously made arrangements to arrive at noon, but less than 24 hours prior to arrival we were told it would have to be 2pm. Then the owner Don and his daughter stayed and cleaned as we settled in for the first 90 minutes. Yeah, they had the audacity to stay and clean for an hour and a half after we arrived.
I've made numerous phone calls and emails to Don and was told my deposit is on its way, but now 2 months later I've yet to see it. Nor has Don returned any calls or emails in the last couple weeks.
This place is not suitable for children and be very weary about staying long if the water is going to be an issue. Also, don't count on the owners, they live in Cambridge MA and obviously don't go to the location often or care about keeping regular customers. We do this annual trip and we were looking forward to returning again and again.
Please contact me if you think I'm just leaving this in spite. You'll find I'm a local business owner who is simply offended to be treated this poorly.
My family and I recently stayed at the "Brook House." I am so happy that we chose this lovely Vermont farm house to enjoy the last days of summer! The house itself is very large and homey. The bedrooms with large and airy with nice linens. The house provides many special spaces for a family to spread out in. My 7 year old could be found often in the sunroom, reading on the cozy couch. My 15 year old son loved the family room with Dish T.V. & WiFi. There is also a cozy room with a massive fireplace for cool evenings. Other evenings we would make s'mores by the firepit. My favorite room was the screened in back porch where we could enjoy a meal and listen to the babbling brook! The house was clean and well maintained, combining quaint farm house living with modern amenities. The 10 acre grounds is where we spent the most of our time! The boys loved swimming in the pond, playing in the huge yard and hiking to the waterfall which is in the backyard! An added bonus was that we were able to bring our Lab. I think she may have loved the property most of all! With so much space to run and places to swim - she was the happiest dog ever! One of the highlights of the trip was meeting our hosts, The Murrays! They were so helpful - always available to answer questions or tell us about area activities. They entertained us with funny stories, gave us a tour of the property and treated our children like family. The town of Rochester is a great place to spend time. There are some really good restaurants. We loved the cafe where you could eat inside or on the front porch. Also a cute bookstore with amazing baked goods. We rented bikes from Green Mountain Bikes and there is a market to get food and supplies. There was also a few art galleries and Mom & Pops, which sells the best maple syrup! Nearby, we also went tubing and berry picking. Originally, we had planned to take road trips but we loved the house and the town of Rochester so much that we never left! We are so happy that we were able to spend time at this special property and get to know our wonderful hosts! Alexandra
