About Jacqueline Capriles

I have always loved visiting the Island of Curacao. It has become my favorite place in the world. My parents are originally from Curacao and I visit here often. So when an opportunity came along for me to purchase a home on the famous Handelskade waterfront, I jumped at the opportunity to be part of this World Unesco Heritage site.

Jacqueline Capriles purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Jacqueline Capriles chose Curacao

What I love about this property is that it is in the center of town overlooking the Santa Ana Bay. I enjoy the water, but not big on soaking in the sun all day. I like the country, but I'm more of a city person and rather be around people and a lively environment, yet have my privacy at the same time. This property gives me all this and more.

What makes this apartment unique

Here I am so close to everything. I can walk to stores, cafes, take in a movie at the theater, watch the ships sail from my balcony, go to the museum, restaurants, check out the live bands on the waterfront or even go clubbing at night and not have to drive anywhere.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5
We were two couples that shared this apartment. The location was perfect. It was within walking distance to everything you could do in Willemstad. We never tired of sitting on the balcony watching the Queen Emma bridge opening and the ships going by. It was also nice in the evenings to have live music from the Cafe Iguano just below. You could spend day and night being entertained on the balcony.
We were provided with everything we needed including a local cellphone. Jahmir picked us up at the Airport and brought us to the apartment. Then he brought to Mangusa's supermarket (which is huge). Jahmir was excellent and very courteous and helpful. Near the apartment is San Pedro supermarket which is small but adequate. Also nearby is the floating market with lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood. The apartment is located within the shopping area comprised of many small stores. Unfortunately these all close early (by 8 PM) except full service bars and restaurants. It does warrant being more careful in these small streets where the shops are after things close though the apartment itself has a security person. The casinos are open late.
Although the apartment could have been cleaner it was very comfortable and provided us with everything we needed. The Air Conditioning worked very well, the beds were comfortable and there was lots of hot water.
The best burger ever was at the Q restaurant which also serves the Blue Ocean drink made with blue curacao. We had a great meal at the Steak and Ribs at the Rif Fort. Try the Tres Leche cake - to die for. Also make a great Mojito. Excellent location, food and service. In the alley next to the Q restaurant is also an interesting find. Part of the Don Marco building is a take out that has steady business serving local food. On the downside, the Burger Bar at Rif Fort had horrible service. The La Bahai at the Otrabanda Resort was mediocre at best though they tried.
The Kura Hulanda museum is a must see. It has a surprisingly vast array of artifacts including those from the slave era that was part of Curacao's history.
Overall we found it a very friendly island with no shortage of things to see and do. Being in the downtown area gave us a great introduction to Curacao. The history, architecture and culture are everywhere. We really enjoyed being there and would highly recommend going and staying at this apartment. The owner was great and responded quickly to requests.

Town & Country package was Awesome! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED-5 STARS!!

Town & Country package was Awesome! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED-5 STARS!!
  • 5 of 5
We chose the town and country package for our stay in Curacao this time and now believe this is the only way to go!! Both homes were clean, well-stocked and easily located. Each property manager is extremely helpful and truly interested making our stay the best we’ve ever had!
Where do I begin? First, We stayed in the historical city of Willemstad. The 2 bedroom waterfront apartment was in the perfect location for shopping, casino, dining and listening to live music. We enjoyed a glass of wine while watching from our balcony, the Queen Emma Pontoon bridge open and tugs guide the large ships in and out of the harbor. We rented a car but no worries! The parking garage was free and easy to locate. The views of the city were just wonderful from the Riff Fort Diner.
Next it was a home on the northern side of the island in Westpunt. Again, the directions were simple and we found Marazul Dive Resort clean safe and beautifully landscaped. Our 3 bedroom home there was completely air conditioned and also well stocked with anything you might need including Snorkel gear!! We do not dive but the resort does have a dive shop on site for those who do. Our favorite part of MDR was the beautiful beaches a stone’s throw away- collecting sea glass- cliff jumping and just lying at the pool in the Caribbean sun!
Both owners were extremely easy to work with and very prompt on their replies to questions. We will most definitely stay with Jacqueline and the Becks again!! WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PACKAGE!

Fabulous time in the heart of the action!

  • 5 of 5
This excellent spot along St. Anna Bay is a wonderful place to stay amid the best restaurants, shops, and markets. It is an incredible way to experience the best that Willemstad has to offer! It is quiet and peaceful during the day (with in incredible view of the floating Queen Emma bridge and Dutch architecture), and more lively at night with live music on patio restaurants below (that said, the music does not continue late and is easy to escape from if you close the balcony doors). This apartment offers the perfect blend of relaxation and activity in a safe and tremendously picturesque area. Jacqueline and the property manager in Curacao are also incredibly responsive and professional (we were picked up at the airport and given our pre-paid cell phone with ease, and when it seemed like there was a problem with the wi-fi, Jacqueline responded to our email right away and had the property manager come by - in the end, it was our laptop's fault, but we appreciated the quick reply!). We would definitely recommend for fun and family time alike!

Picturesque view and prime location in Willemstad

  • 5 of 5
This apartment was perfect for our stay in Curacao! The location made it perfect to walk around the center of the city and visit numerous restaurants, landmarks, and open markets. Kitchen was stocked enough to cook great fish we got at the floating market. We loved sitting downstairs at Iguana Cafe with a beer and watching the Queen Emma pedestrian bridge and boats passing through. Jahmir, who managed the property, was always available to meet us or help out when needed. We would definitely recommend this place!!

delightful apartment in the middle of everything

  • 4 of 5
This is a delightful apartment centrally located near the floating bridge so you get to watch the bridge open and close for the many boats, ships, tug boats etc. It was really fun to sit on our balcony or living room with windows open watching all the activity. We arranged shore diving through Atlantis. It turned out to be a wonderful dive operation that picked us in the front of apartment and dropped us off after diving. Jacqueline and her property manager, Jahmir, were very helpful. They clearly want anyone who rents from them to have a positive experience. Jacqueline obviously checks her email often because she was extremely responsive to us. in addition, Jahmir, a delightful young man, went out of his way to please. This is a very active area so it is not a "quiet" retreat. We loved the activity but this is something to keep in mind.

The handelskade waterfront nettled above the santa ana bay. This area is unique and in the heart of the town. Here you’ll find open markets, restaurants, tourist attractions, night life and other establishments all within walking distance.

Here are a few places we recommend to sight see.

Punda is the main shopping area of willemstad. The pedestrian-only streets create a picturesque atmosphere with many shops conveniently located in one area.

The queen emma bridge is a floating pontoon bridge, which swings perpendicular across the harbor and opens and closes so ships can pass through. This bridge has been nominated for the 8th wonder of the world.

The queen juliana bridge is a 1,625-foot-long bridge and stands 200 feet above the water. It's the highest bridge in the caribbean and affords breathtaking views of the city, day and night.

Around the corner from our location is where you’ll find the floating markets, boats from venezuela and colombia bring in a colorful smorgasbord of fruits, vegetables and the day’s fresh catch.

Next to the venezuelan floating fruit market, you can book a motor cruise eastwards on the insulinde with captain phil and his crew. He’ll take you on a 3-hour cruise along the coast where you can snorkel over the famous sunken tugboat wreck lying in 14 feet (4m) water depth. This wreck is curacao's finest snorkel attraction.

The curaçao maritime museum takes visitors on a discovery tour of more then 500 years of maritime history of curaçao.

The kura hulanda museum boasts a size-able collection of african art – one of the largest in the caribbean.

The mikve israel-emanuel synagogue, is the oldest synagogue still in use in the new world. There is a jewish historical museum on the property, occupying two buildings that date to 1728. You'll find artifacts like a torah scroll, brought to the island by the first jewish settlers, and hand-wrought, centuries-old silver items once used in religious ceremonies.
