Downtown Lake Placid on the WATER! Great Location!!

I stayed with two friends at this apartment this summer. The overall experience was good but it is worth noting some of the aspects that could be improved as well. First the positives - The location is excellent, right in the middle of town. You emerge from your door, right next to the owner's antique shop and you are next to the Olympic arena and in the midst of shops and restaurants. It is hard to imagine anything more convenient, to the town at least. The apartment has one bedroom up in the middle level and two bedrooms down on the lowest one. There is a living room and a small kitchen as well. The main bathroom is on the middle level but there is a small one below as well. While not fancy, there was plenty of space and it was comfortable. The best feature of the property, however, is the little dock out back on Mirror Lake. We spent a lot of time out there swimming and soaking in the fantastic atmosphere. It was awesome. There is a lean-to out there should need to get out of the sun, but we never used it.

All that said, there were a few things that took away from the experience. Worth noting are the beds. The beds are new, according to the owner, and of good quality. However, they are very noisy and I woke myself up rolling over each night. I told this to the owner and he said he would fix it. If I were to rent again, I would make sure of that. Also, the beds are short. Plenty wide but they are short and I found I had to sleep diagonally. I'm 6'2" and if you are any taller than that, it could be an issue. There is no parking there, so you need to park on the street or in the municipal parking lot. It isn't far but it isn't right outside either. The overall decor is a hodgepodge which is probably in keeping with the owners business. It doesn't look that well put together and so you won't be wowed when you walk in. I'm not sure that's important, though, since the great location made us want to be outside all the time.

In the end, I gave this 4 stars. The location and value overwhelmed, for me, the negatives in a big way. We had a great time on the trip and, if the beds were fixed, would certainly rent again.
