Winner Savannah Historic Preservation Award 2008.* Tri-level Loft with two bedrooms and convertible sofa on center platform - sleeps six. Two and a half baths with with walk-in shower and cast-iron tub. Thoughtfully appointed and well stocked with home comforts. Careful attention to detail throughout - the exterior has been restored to its Victorian beginnings and the interior designed for modern needs. This dwelling is unique in Savannah and provides a true 'getaway experience.' Happy travels,
Built in 1889 as St Paul's Episcopal Church by architect Eric Eichberg, this historic property hosted varied congregations over the past century before falling into disrepair around 2002. Restoration began in 2005 and the MIddle Loft was completed along with the exterior in 2008. The exterior sides, covered with stucco, were refitted with cyprus siding. The original vintage pine was reclaimed from the roof and sides to be used for the interior construction. The flying buttresses and bell-tower, both missing for decades, were reconstructed from historic photographs. About 50% of the stained glass was replaced with restoration glass, the surviving memorials were restored where possible.
The interior was designed to flow upward and outward providing different vantage-points to view the original details. The original ceiling and support columns provided the framework for a minimalist design concept - further accentuating the remarkable Victorian era craftsmanship. The green and blue glass combine with amazing results to create a surprising amount of warmth for such a large volume of space. The Loft is contemporary but the juxtaposition of the old and new creates a comfortable balance, giving the Loft the true feel of a home. The pictures online are great, but once you're inside its like, "drop your bags" good. The owners have done a great job at making it modern and comfortable but also keeping the spirit of what this place used to be. My group and I (22-27yrs) stayed in Savannah for 3 days, and to save money, we cooked our meals, and it was great that the kitchen was stocked with all the supplies we needed. Everything else that we needed was there and it really just felt like home, which was really important to me when trying to find for our vacation. And with the place being about minutes to Forsythe Park and about 20 minute walk from the SCAD art museum, The Middle Loft was in a great location to everywhere we wanted to go. All in all, It truly is beautiful and if I ever make my way down to Savannah again, this will be the first place I look up.
Truly a one of a kind!! Cannot say enough about this place. Will stay here anytime we come to savannah!!
We could not recommend this place enough! Everything about it was amazing! Kitchen was well equipped with staples and dishes, living area had comfortable furniture along with many movies to choose from! Bedrooms were cozy and bathrooms were nice. The picture do not do this place justice! The 32 foot high ceilings were spectacular. Location was fabulous and very close to Forsyth Park! John was very helpful. Many thanks! Would recommend to all, just watch out for the many stairs to the master bedroom!
The Middle Loft was just incredible. The renovations that have gone into this property make it well worth the stay. Everything was top of the line from the kitchen appliances to the hardwood floors and bathrooms. We had the opportunity to tour the Front Loft as well during our stay. The pictures on the web just don't do it justice. It is more stunning in person. We will have to make the Front Loft our next Savannah booking, so that we can have wonderful memories of both lofts. I would definitely recommend both of these properties. The proximity to the squares was lovely as well. We left our car at the property and walked into town through the squares on several occasions. That is the best way to really see Savannah. Kevin was great to work with too. He really wants to help make sure that your stay at the loft is the best that it can be and that your experience in Savannah will make you love and enjoy the city as much as he does.
This condo was beautiful being part of a remodeled church with hardwood floors and stained glass it was totally cool staying here no wonder it won preservation award. Excellent location to downtown and the kitchen was a totally stocked for cooking even the dishes and cups were not your cheap quality. Very quiet and the owners are easy to contact. The Loft stay was a very nice experience for us and was very clean. We really would like to visit again in the future.
We stayed at this loft for a week in March of 2013. The loft is extremely nice, super clean, and very convenient. Very nice appliances, lots of space, and a full size washer and dryer. The location is very close to Forsyth park and we walked downtown almost every day. Stay here - you'll love it!
This location, just off the southend of Forsyth Park has a lot of advantages. The first being the park itself: 10 acres of green-space lined with 200 year old, moss covered trees. 2 large playgrounds, tennis and basket ball courts and a large amphitheater with a cafe. The park serves as a center piece for downtown life and acts as a gateway to the historic squares that make up downtown. The farmers market is every Saturday and the park host many events throughout the year. Several local favorites on this end of the park too including the Sentient Bean Cafe and Brighter Day Grocery - 2 indispensable places for many downtown residents. A free shuttle to downtown proper is just a couple of blocks over on Bull St, the trolley stop is also super close.
