Pet Friendly--and they love it!: Our canine guests love the Treehouse. They can romp in the leaves, chase squirrels, splash in the water and have full run of the property. The outdoor shower works well in cleaning up our canine guests should they get a little dirty! Our canine guest rate is $22.00 a night, per guest.
*Note: We love our canine guests. If our canine guests like to relax in the house, it is their owner's responsibility to be sure the canine guests do not go into the sleeping area, that throw rugs are removed, and upholstered furniture is covered with sheets provided. We hope taking these precautions will minimize the amount of hair and dander that will need to be cleaned. If there is excessive cleaning as a result of our canine guests, the owner may be charged for the additional cost.
I chose a vacation rental business after 30 year career because of the opportunities it offers to meet some really interesting people and offer them a great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle.
Sandy Hightower purchased this cabin in 2007
The Treehouse Vacation Cabin is located on the Colorado River a short drive from Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. It is rare to find such a wonderful piece of waterfront property that is so centrally located.
We fell in love with the property when we saw the park at the water's edge, the birds (including Bald Eagles), the deer, and wildlife. The stone fireplace is very romantic. The deck below allows for gatherings of family and friends. The Colorado River offers bass and catfish galore!
One anniversary, a birthday, and Mother's day later and we're heading home! The place is beautiful and the area around it just as much so! Thank you for sharing this awesome place and for letting us stay here for the weekend!
PS. Stay out past dark, the lightning bugs are the coolest!
Great place to enjoy the outdoors, great access point into Colorado River for kayaking and paddle boarding. The house was very clean and well kept. We enjoyed the solitude & nature. Owner was very responsive to all questions. Will be back for another long weekend.
We could not have been happier with the Tree House in Smithville. It's very cozy and well maintained. The deck was awesome. The river was beautiful. It is secluded and peaceful but still close to town. Its a great place for nature lovers. Smithville is a charming, friendly town. We will be back!
Wonderful stay at The Treehouse! I am now refreshed and ready to charge into next week! If you are looking for a quiet place to stay in the country, away from all the buzz of the big city, check out the Treehouse! We had such a good time. My favorite part was just sitting out on the upper deck in the morning with a cup of coffee and watching/listening to the birds as they chirped and sang in the treetops in the soft light of the sunrise.
The owners obviously go to great lengths to make their guests have everything they need for a fun and relaxing stay. They have stacked wood (free!) to use for the fireplace and for the outdoor firepit. There are box games and puzzles for kids and adults to play, a trail to the river to exploration, BBQ grill area, swinging chair and even provided the items to make S’mores for around a campfire! They have maps, suggestions, and points of interest listed on the table for the guests. What they don’t provide, Mother Nature does in peacefulness and natural beauty.
Did I mention that the Treehouse is pet friendly! Our family dog was able to enjoy everything with us! Just like at home, we covered the sofa & chairs at night to keep it “fur-less” for the next guest ‘cause our doggy likes to sleep on the sofa! The owners even provided a little doggy doorway gate to keep our 4-legged family member out of the bedroom (because she probably would have seen that as an opportunity to jump in bed with us, even though she is not allowed to at home!) It is great to have such a nice place to stay that allowed our dog too!
I hope to come back in the spring some weekend with my girlfriends to have a girls weekend away for some relaxation, shopping the antique stores in Smithville and maybe just sipping some wine on the deck with our feet propped up! Thank you for a great time!
When I first arrived to the cabin, it was too dark to really take in the area too well. Once morning arrived, we fell in love. Everything was extremely well laid out and clean. It's obvious that the owners of the property take really good care of it. We did get a lot of rain the day we were there so it made for a bit of messy morning but with all of the games and movies they keep in the cabin, we did just fine. There were 5 adults, 5 children ages 6-14 and 2 dogs and the cabin never once felt cramped. We will be returning again and I would highly recommend this property to anyone to once to enjoy a weekend away from the busy city. Thanks again for the 2nd to none hospitality. See you soon!
We were so happy to have found this little jewel. Sandy is so kind and considerate.
My Family and I had such a great time here. There was so much to do, thanks to the great info Sandy left for us. We will definitely be returning to this wonderful place among the tree's. Thank you Sandy, for all the little touches you have done to make this tree house such a warm and charming place. Remember to keep the light on for us because we will be coming back.
Laura and Family.
Our trip to the treehouse was months in the making. We were looking for the perfect weekend getaway that was not too far from home but far enough to get away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. After reading the owner's website, we knew this would be the perfect place. The owner advertises the home as having easy access to the Colorado river. This was not the case. There was no access to the river. To get to the river, you have to go down a steep muddy hill that is behind the home. Once you get to the bottom of the hill, you can see the raging and muddy Colorado river, however to get to the river you have to go through poison ivy, dense vegetation and muddy ground. This was not our idea of an accessible river that you could "dip your toes in" as the owner stated on her website. She advertises that the river is great for water sports but when you get to the home, she has signs that say the river is dangerous because of poison ivy and snakes. Owner needs to make up her mind! Is it safe or not safe? The home is described as being privately situated on 6 acres. While the home may be on six acres it is still within eye sight of the main road. When you are outside you can see and hear the cars driving by. Not too private! In addition, there are a lot of bugs out there so don’t even think about turning on any of the deck lights at night or you will be covered in insects as the owner does not have bug lights installed. Also, there is very limited wood on site. Be sure to bring your own wood if plan on using the fire pit or fireplace.
The real deal breaker for us came after our return from our stay. The owner sent an email referencing the exact time that she saw us and an accusation that she saw additional guests there. She wanted to confirm so that she could charge us for the extra visitors. We did not have any additional guests and the thought that she was spying on us was very unsettling. We left the property earlier than we had anticipated, so there was no need for the owner to be near the property when we left. Unless you like being spied on while on your getaway, stay away from this place as you will be watched by the creepy owner!
The Treehouse Vacation Cabin is located on 6 private acres that border the Colorado River. While enjoying this cabin, you can see abundant birds, fish, canoe, kayak, hike and enjoy the outdoors. Centrally located with easy drive from Houston, Austin, San Antonio & Dallas. Pet Friendly. Smithville is antique & film making center. The Colorado River at The Treehouse has water year round, even during severe drought, allowing our guests to enjoy their favorite water activity.
