We met at the University of Arizona in our home town of Tucson. Bruce has earned his MBA and is a VP of a major international BPO corporation. Deb has earned both a bachelors and masters degree in architecture and works project to project - one of which was remodeling and refurbishing of this great modern cabin!
Although Deb is a fourth generation Arizonan and we both love the stark beauty of the desert; four of our five children were born in Pennsylvania and we bought this home, in part, to honor our relocation agreement with them for snow outings and regular visits to the mountains. We love the diversity of Arizona. In just a few hours we can choose the warmth of the desert or the cool of the mountains!
We love the quiet beauty of the forest. For us, visiting the cabin, is like hitting the 'reset' button when our hectic lifestyles gets a little overwhelming.
As a family we enjoy going for long walks together. Deb's preferred routes are the quiet dirt roads through the forest. There are so many wildflowers in the summer, and you can usually catch glimpses of deer and elk, and the small forest creatures along the way don't seem to mind if you stop and watch them, especially at dawn and dusk. Bruce prefers walks along the nearby Mogollon Air Park runway. Obviously, it isn't too busy if people are walking along it, and the majority of the residents (particularly the retired folk) leave their hangers open and love to discuss their amazing aircraft and equally amazing lives. We've see everything from vintage aircraft to the most advanced personal jets, and been enthralled by all their adventures.
The youngest members of the family love to visit the local parks and playgrounds, as well as the Byson ranch petting zoo. The library is always one of our first stops too. They have an amazing array of entertaining visitors that come for children and adults alike. The library is a hub of community activity as well, and you can always learn about upcoming local events there too. They have a great computer room, if you decide to leave your's behind.
Of course, the older children love to ski! The White Mountain ski resorts offer some of the finest skiing in the Western United States.
Deb's least favorite thing to do is shop, but even she is impressed with the clever offerings available from antiques to handcrafts. For all the things you forgot to pack - the Dollar General and Family Dollar stores are more like an updated version of my Grandfather's old General Store than 'dollar' stores. You can get groceries, toiletries, clothes, toys, books, dvds, household good - everything.
