My husband and I both were raised in a beach community; he is from South Carolina and I am from New Jersey. Moving to New England brought us again to the coast. When we discovered Cape Cod we feel in love with the quaintness, the character and the natural beauty. When our daughter came along we decided she too should have the experience of being on the water. It is so tranquil. Both my husband and I are in the very hectic retail business, owning 8 stores so tranquility is important, we love our get aways to Chatham where we can slow the pace and smell the "roses". When we tell our dog "lucky we are going to the beach she can't wait, dogs need tranquility too.

The Owner purchased this mill in 2002

When researching what towns on Cape Cod that we thought we might like, we talked to many people. We had visited the island of Nantucket and wanted a similar feel but not the difficulty of getting there. The recommendations were unanimous that we visit Chatham. We loved it! Our first home in Chatham was actually one of our stores with a second floor apartment. When our daughter was young it was perfect for us. We then discovered we were coming to Chatham and working instead of enjoying so we decided to sell this home and buy something else. The requirement was on the water and close to town, a hard combination to find. We had a great realtor and he found us the perfect spot. Our home, a compound of four cottages, has everything; on the water and close to town. We can walk to everything. We love not having to get in the car. We love our walks on the beach and through town. We love going into shops where they "know your name". We love the band concerts and then grabbing a little dinner at the "Squire". When we cook at home, the fresh seafood makes everything taste much better. And when I need something to complete a recipe, the (new) Chatham Village Market is right down the street. Chatham's charm is so refreshing. Our area is so beautiful with so many beautiful homes, all enjoying the views of Oyster Pond. This is our 9th year and our home on the water is a dream come true for our family. As we go through every rental season we love hearing our tenants comments so we know they love our home as much as we do.

When we have the opportunity to stay in our "wind Mill" it is like being away, far away. It is so relaxing and comfortable it makes slowing the pace real simple. We love sipping our wine at the end of the day while watching the sun set over the water. We love the peacefulness of eating in the garden while viewing the water. This "wind Mill" cottage makes life feel simple.

A GREAT WEEK!

  • 5 of 5
This was our first visit to the Cape and we were delighted with our choice of booking the Windmill in Chatham.

The cottage is very quirky and comfortable with all you might need. The views are superb and the location meant a quick walk into town for coffee (we recommend Chatham Cookware), for dinner/drinks (go to the Squire)! There are wonderful walks to do, including going to Chatham Lighthouse Beach. Quiet and peaceful but convenient at the same time so perfect for us!

Linda, the owner, was charming and dealt with our questions very promptly as well as being very flexible. Thank you!

Chatham is great base for a stay on the Cape and its picturesque Main Street is a real gem!

We highly recommend staying at the Windmill and hope to come again!

LATE APRIL STAY

  • 4 of 5
My wife and I spent four relaxing nights at the windmill during our two week trip to Connecticut/Rhode Island/Massachusetts. The accommodation is in a perfect spot overlooking Oyster Pond and is a short walk to the supermarket and the local amenities. The accommodation is very comfortable with off road parking, lounge and combined kitchen/diner. The only (small) downsides as I can see are a) accessing the bedroom if you struggle with steeper staircases and b) limited work surface preparation space in the kitchen.

Owner's Response: Helen, so glad you had a wonderful stay in our Wind Mill. Yes, the location is so convenient to everything. Yes, those stairs are steeper than normal, that is why I show them in our photos on our site. Unfortunately, that is the nature of the beast when staying in a Wind Mill. Thank you so much for your comment about our kitchen work space. You have just confirmed our winter project for the Wind Mill. We will be adding an additional counter to even accommodate bar seating, for the 2015 season, it will be great. Hope you return to see our completed project. Thanks so much for your comments. And also thank you for your kind comments about your visit and stay in the Wind Mill.

Best, Linda

GREAT VALENTINES GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5
The windmill was a perfect place to get away to for Valentines weekend. The space was immaculate, well equipped and very cozy. Linda was a great host and even made sure a snow plow came the morning after a snow storm(!). The windmill is conveniently located walking distance to town and Oyster Pond beach.

GREAT ROMANTIC GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I had a wonderful time in Chatham. The 'wind mill' was a big part of it. Plenty of room for two and cozy. Great view of Oyster Pond with beautiful sunsets. Walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. And a great 3.5 mile loop that takes you past the light house and some great views of the ocean.
