About The Owner

We are a couple of good friends who purchased the cabin to enjoy our winters skiing and snowboarding at kirkwood mountain resort. Over the years, we've discovered many great summer activities as well, such as wine tasting, hiking, kayaking and rock climbing in the area.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2004

Why The Owner chose Volcano

The cabin is a real getaway from city life. Set in a beautiful sugar pine and cedar forest, it's very peaceful. We enjoy the wilderness setting and its vicinity to outdoor activities.

What makes this cabin unique

hot tubing under the stars is a real treat!

Great, spacious cabin, wonderful amenities in a serene atmospherr

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 days at this awesome cabin. Beds were all comfortable, kitchen was large and allowed all 4 adults to be in there while prepping food. Hot tub was by far the most enjoyable. Loved going in each morning and evening. It's backdrop is the lovely big trees/woods. It's private enough.

The kids loved the location, and had a blast. They road scooters on the huge driveway area and played is the yard. We had two families and it was spacious for all of us. I highly recommend this cabin, it was wonderful and affordable.

Though there wasn't snow, we only drove about an hour (toward Tahoe) and played in the snow on Carson Pass. Iron Mountain typically would have snow, but didn't this visit. We also enjoyed an hour ride to Old Columbia and had fun there during the day.

Pioneer is a great place, we look forward to another trip.

Great mountain vibes without Tahoe prices.

My trip was exactly what I wanted. The cabin rental was a big factor; dog friendly, snow play, hot tub, home cooking, good sleep. Thank you for sharing your space and making it easy. The home is well equipped and organized. I've always liked driving up highway 88. It was nice to stop for a while. I enjoyed the lakes; Bear River Res., pristine snow stomping at Silver lake, Caples lake frozen... nature at her finest.

Just what we wanted!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is wonderful! It was everything we were looking for in a cabin. The woods surrounding it were beautiful. Our children had a great time exploring them. We felt instantly at home when we came inside. The kitchen was spacious and had everything we needed to cook nice dinners for our family. There were a lot of kids toys that our children enjoyed playing with during our stay. My favorite part was the wood stove. It heated up the cabin very quickly and gave the cabin that rustic feel. There was no snow yet when we stayed, but we only had to drive 15 minutes up to road to find it. There are a lot of beds and the bathrooms are huge. We can't wait to come back again with our friends and family. We were very impressed with how quickly the owner responded to all the questions we had before and during our stay, even though it was over the holiday weekend. We will definitely be staying here again!

Stay in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this cabin over Labor Day weekend this year. The setting is fabulous, in the woods and very private. We brought our twenty-month year old son and he had a great time exploring the grounds. We also enjoyed a good soak in the hot tub on the back deck. The cabin is well stocked with cookware and the kitchen is large and well laid out. The gas grill was great for outdoor grilling. There is a ton of sleeping area in three separate bedrooms and the bathrooms are roomy. While we were up there, we enjoyed wine tasting in Amador county, and a boat trip on bear river reservoir. We had positive and prompt communication with owner. Overall it was a very relaxing getaway and I plan to return in the winter to snowboard at Kirkwood.
