Aloha and E Komo Mai!
Aloha from Kehena Beach Villa
Perched high on the edge of a lush coconut studded absolute oceanfront sea cliff at the dead end of this quaint coastal beach community's most exclusive cul de sac stands this romantic gated secure landmark villa that was thoughtfully designed to be enjoyed by a couple who desire a level of privacy, comfort, safety and luxury that is more akin to a high end resort but is value priced and capable of accommodating a group of up to 8 adults if desired.
The fact that the owner controls the oceanfront of magnificent Kehena Cove from and including the beach lookout that abuts Kehena Black Sand Beach all the way to the tip of the cove where the villa is situated assures a high level of privacy and exclusivity that is not shared by neighboring vacation rentals. In fact, there is no immediate neighbor on either oceanfront side of the villa which is a fortress surrounded by 6 foot solid lava rock walls and accessed by a coded artistic gate that was custom designed by famed Honolulu based French sculptor Frederic Zimmer. The entire oceanfront block is adorned by a series of artistic gates and custom matching light fixtures that automatically illuminate the gorgeously landscaped lava rock walls nightly. The only other oceanfront home on the block is the smaller sister residence which is equally private and luxurious.
The villa is a landmark for Kehena Beach and is, in fact, the closest oceanfront residence to the beach. It is situated on the widest oceanfront parcel in the community and spans nearly 200 feet on a 50 foot sea cliff that is typically teeming with sea birds. The privileged guests of the villa will not only enjoy the direct views of Kehena Beach and Bay, but also the extraordinary sunrises and moonrises and the cooling trade winds due to the primarily northeasterly orientation of the oceanfront aspect of the villa.
The oceanfront deck, or 'lanai' has been updated and redesigned, nearly doubling its size in 2014 per our former guest's recommendations and is certain to be the most popular living area of the villa. It features a new refreshing dipping pool in which one may enjoy the stunning views while relaxing in the solar heated water. At night time it can be illuminated to a soft blue hue. The pool can be accessed from either the open uncovered lanai or the covered pool 'cabana' which has a translucent roof and comfortable outdoor resort style 'sunasan' canopied lounger for two facing the pool and beach view. The newly tiled lanai is fully furnished with teak furniture including a custom bar, adjustable cushioned chaise loungers, classic adirondack chairs, and bar height dining table and chairs. One has the option of dining 'al fresco' or under the covered portion of the lanai which has a translucent roof to provide the added illumination of the stars and moon at night. All of the oceanfront railing is clear glass. The small cozy pool directly abuts the deck on 2 sides and has 2 sets of stairs from within for ease of access. There is an outdoor lava rock shower with hot water adjacent to the pool deck.
The courtyard to the villa greets you with an illuminated pond with nocturnal waterfall feature and a stunning variety of guppies and goldfish. An adjacent screened 'lobby' area is well furnished to accommodate your party and is the ideal site to gather in the evening by the soothing sounds of the waterfall and the chorus of coqui frogs that it invites. The grounds are professionally landscaped and meticulously maintained. The garden foliage is striking and includes many varieties of bromeliads, orchids and heliconias.
The gym is a recent addition and has a wall of sliding glass doors that overlook the courtyard gardens. It has a wall mounted TV/DVD player with access to over 250 channels as well as a blender, fridge, and sink for your convenience. Per our former guests recommendations, the gym has been updated to include a hybrid elliptical trainer/recumbent bicycle so that a lower impact cardiovascular workout can be accomplished. Dumb bells and a Gold's Platinum professional gym that is equipped even for bench pressing or squats without the need for a spotter is provided.
The oceanfront yard is terraced with a lava rock walkway above that has a unique imported covered teak swing for two. You can also access the basement level office which houses a printer and access to Wifi. Below there is a grassy lawn that is dotted with mature coconut trees and a cozy hammock. You will also encounter a new 9 person oceanfront spa. Don't forget to bring your I-Pod so you can plug it into the spa outlet and enjoy your favorite tunes.
If you can not resist the urge to visit Kehena Beach, it is a mere 5 minute walk from this, the closest oceanfront residence. This gorgeous strip of sand is not to be visited by the faint of heart. Although nudity is generally deemed unlawful in Hawaii, the beach has been routinely frequented by naturists since its formation back in the 1955 lava flow. Sturdy shoes are recommended to walk down the rocky trail to the beach. It is steep in some places and not deemed suitable for young children, the elderly, or anyone who might have significant physical limitations. It is, however, well worth the effort. The black sand, unlike most of Hawaii's 'black' sand beaches, is granular and pure black. The beach itself is reputed to be among Hawaii's most scenic beaches.
Kehena Bay is perhaps best known for the Spinner Dolphins that frequent the beach year round and can often be seen swimming among well-seasoned local swimmers who brave the often powerful currents and rip tides. It is not unusual to see Spinner Dolphins performing acrobatics with the naked eye directly in front of the house. Whales can occasionally be viewed during the season from about November to April. At times , one can hear the eerie sounds of the Humpback Whales, particularly throughout the evening and night. Sea turtles can be spotted occasionally year round. The reef is teeming with marine life and on calmer days one can see various species of reef fish.
First time visitors to Kehena Beach are discouraged from entering the ocean, particularly the young, elderly, and those with physical limitations , as drownings in the area do occasionally occur. Please don't be fooled by the claims that many will make of the ease of swimming with the dolphins! Undoubtedly, there are frequently opportunities to watch a considerable number of people swimming with the dolphins, but to do so as a malahini (newcomer) is not without considerable risk to the life and safety of the swimmer. The beautiful but rocky shoreline can prove to be unforgiving.
There is a drum circle that regularly occurs on Sundays on the beach. You can view it on U-tube. It tends to be very reminiscent of the sixties. The atmosphere is laid back and includes a very eclectic crowd. There are no facilities at Kehena Beach , but you are guests of the nearest oceanfront estate to the beach, so you are only minutes away by foot from all the comforts you may desire .
You may wish to access a lunar calendar and make a reservation around the time of the full moon. The experience of watching the moonlight shimmering on Kehena Bay cannot be aptly described with words. On certain months, you may be afforded the opportunity to watch the moon rise over the ocean horizon.
Hawaii Tax at 13.97% not included in price.
