Cozy, charming cabin that takes you back to the olden days

This is truly a charming, historic cabin that takes you back to a simpler way of life. We loved it for our long fall weekend here with our teenaged children and dog - it really feels like getting away from it all, while being real close to the lake and all that the Tahoe area has to offer. The house is well equipped and had everything we needed. We also appreciated that Mike, the owner, had prepared wood in the fire pit and charcoal in the grill for us, and that there were plenty of paper towels, tp etc. We only stayed in the main cabin, but we also checked out the boathouse, which is very nicely redone. We thought it would be really fun to come back in the summer with a larger group of people (friends, family) and really make use of the compound set-up and the outdoor space, and eat, cook and live outside, while being able to retreat inside when it gets chilly. However, I personally wouldn't want to max out the number of beds in the winter, since it would get quite crowded in the main cabin.
I don't think it's clear from the pictures, but you can actually see the lake from the kitchen and living room, and you are there in one minute walking. There is a nice path along the water, and I guess if the water levels weren't so high, there would be a beach right there as well.
I would recommend this place to people who appreciate a sense of place, a simpler way of life and who like to be in touch with nature and history. I certainly don't think this cabin is for everyone, though - if you want amenities like dishwasher, washer/dryer and internet, there are plenty of other homes in Tahoe to choose from. I would also recommend this place for families with all but the youngest children. Since the property is not fenced in, you'd always have to keep a close eye on your toddler or wandering youngster (or squirrel chasing dog, for that matter). Somewhat older kids would have a lot of fun and a sense of freedom here, though. We certainly hope to be back!
