Spacious 3 floor apartm. (2nd, 3rd and 4th) right in the city center surrounded with a variety of restaurants, bars and shops. On the 2nd fl. there is a half bathroom and a private entrance to the apartment. The 3rd fl. is divided into 1 bedroom with a double bed,1 living room,1 dining room and a kitchen. The 4th fl. is divided into 1 full bath, 1 laundry room and then a sleeping area with 1 double bed and the 2 single beds. The apartment has big windows and is very bright and has a unique view of the National theater, the Cultural house and a partial view of the harbor.Original artworks on the walls by two of Iceland's best known artists Hulda Hákon and Jón Óskar.Reykjavik's oldest and most splendid breakfast place the Grey Cat on ground floor open 7am-3pm/ 8am-3pm on weekends.
We stayed here with one other couple and found the apartment to be clean, spacious, well-equipped, and conveniently located in Reykjavik. It can be a little noisy on weekends late, but it never bothered us; in was a pleasant reminder that we are in a city and people are having fun! (a few broken bottles around the streets is always disappointing but nothing you don't see elsewhere). We felt very safe, even in darkness & late. Parking garage is close and ridiculously cheap. Grocery & Vinbuden within walking distance. Wifi worked great but we never used it for movies or anything. The one thing I would caution against is there are two flights of stairs, so maybe not a good thing for a much older couple who is lucky enough to still be traveling about. We loved the charm of the apartment, and the fact that there were two toilets. Fun seeing the kitties on occasion by our doorstep too!
We stayed here as a family, and could not have been more impressed. The owner is very helpful, and maintains good communication which gives you confidence. The location is perfect for exploring, with the central bus station a 5 minute walk away (all excursions leave from here), cafes and restaurants within easy access. The cafe downstairs was very convenient and the food was very good.
The appartment is very well equipped for visitors, the beds are warm and comfy, the shower is very powerful. There is not one thing I could not commend about our experience with this flat and its owner. It was awesome.
I will be returning at some point in the near future and I will definitely stay here.
Thank you so much!
We were so very happy with our stay in this lovely apartment. The owner, Burkni, was so very accommodating and a wonderful host. We learned a lot about my ancestors from Iceland and the area they came from just from our talks with Burkni. We could not have been happier with our choice to stay here and we hope to return for a longer stay in the future! We will never forget our wonderful stay in Iceland! Thanks Burkni and the best to you and your family.
Kindly, Your new friends from Edmonton, Canada
My wife and I recently stayed here and we couldn't be happier with our choice. The apartment is clean, centrally located and unique. The owner was awesome; not only was he there to great us when we arrived early in the morning, but he also gave us a ton of recommendations for local restaurants and activities outside of Reykjavik. The apartment gets a ton of natural light and is the kitchen is fully stocked with all the appliances/utensils one could need to prepare meals (which we did daily). Also, beds are really comfortable. Can't recommend this spot highly enough.
I booked this apartment for 2 couples for a week in July. I was keen to find an apartment that had a tub, shower, washing machine, because my husband was running the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon. This apartment is in the PERFECT location - tucked away down a quiet side street, but steps away from the main streets (Laugavegur and Skólavörðustígur). A short 5 min walk to the Harpa, the habor and the Sun Voyager. 25 minutes walk to the Central Bus Station (BSI) and about 5-10 minutes Hlemmer, a smaller bus station.
The apartment was very clean and sweet, and had everything we needed - towels, sheets, cooking utensils, spices, foil, toilet rolls, hair dryer, black out blinds, guide books and maps, pots and pans, great oven, dishwasher.... There was endless supplies of hot water from a powerful shower. The hot water smells of sulphur (eggy) but that is normal for Iceland. The beds were extremely comfy and smelled fresh and clean. We all commented on how lovely the beds were. There is one downstairs toilet/sink, and an upstairs toilet/sink/bath/shower/laundry room that is accessed through the upper bedroom. The apartment is very pretty and decorated nicely. It feels very cool with bright colors, art on the walls and lots of books -- hipsters will love it. Non hipsters will love it too, because it is like home and feels very safe and secure.
There is a cafe downstairs (Grái Kötturinn) that serves coffee, eggs, pancakes etc. It smelled good and was always busy. We did not go there as we cooked brekkie everyday in the apartment to save on Kronur.
The apartment does seem pricey - Iceland is expensive in general - but when you arrive you will be so glad you spent the money. Do not hesitate to book it before someone else does!
Other things to note:
Burkni was very kind, helpful and interesting. Thank you so much, Burkni!!
There are 3 cute cats that live in the apartment downstairs - added bonus!
Friday and Saturdy nights will be quite noisy until around 6am as there are bars around. Don't let this deter you from this great apartment, but be prepared for some drunken singing in the streets.
Take a FlyBus to and from the airport.
Bring rain gear - It rains a lot.
Bring a camera - Iceland is breathtaking.
The listing description, photos and previous reviews tell it as it is. Very clean, comfortable, excellent appliances, spacious rooms and interesting art decor.
As in other reviews, Burkni was on hand to meet us and explain features, even though our flight had been delayed 7 hours until 01:00 AM arrival. Location can't be beat! There was some noise from weekend revelers, but that is to be expected - it is Reykjavik!
Thanks Burkni, we loved your house and we hope to return!
