The home offers a fantastic location and the sought-after combination of privacy and accessibility. The home is only a 12 minute walk from the center of town, yet it is in a private gated community with two other homes with a security guard at night.
The home was built in 2000 of adobe in the Lavanderia area. Local workmen, wood workers, stonemasons, ironworkers and decorative painters handcrafted this hacienda. Set on a hillside on the edge of the Historical district on a rock wall amid bougainvilleas and extensive gardens. The home offers six bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Historically, Casa Heyne has accommodated many wedding parties.
The cathedral-like entry takes you up the mountain from the front door to the main living areas. There are eight different patios and a central courtyard filled with palms and citrus trees beside the fishpond, waterfall and heated dipping pool. The pool is hidden from view by layers of boulders and landscaping. There are eight different stairways leading to different gardens and patios, with hammocks and seating for sunbathing, reading or for sitting and enjoying the view. Birdcages resembling the different churches are filled with parakeets and canaries.
In this essentially two-story home there are six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, eleven fireplaces, a central sound system, four fountains, and both indoor and outdoor dining areas that seat twelve. The water purification plant treats all of the water coming into the house. There is a 50 foot long beamed ceiling great room with pool table and wet bar, as well as numerous outdoor seating areas, two with wood burning fireplaces. Casa Heyne has been featured in two books on Mexico homes: Traditional Mexican Style Interiors and Traditional Mexican Style Exteriors – A Schiffer Design Book by McMenamin and Loper.
The home also includes six on site full time staff members, including a house manager and an experienced cook.
