Located in the Marais's heart in a 15th century building on the 3rd floor, this just renovated apartment is approx. 500 sq/ft with high ceiling, 3 tall windows overlooking the Rue Michel Lecomte. Originally built in the 15th century the Hostel of the Bear and the Lion, was converted into a mansion during the 16th century by the Lords of Rocquencourt, then in the 17th century it was the house of King Henry IV intendant of finances, ... The apartment Duplex is furnished with a Queen size bed (up stair), A large sofa bed in the living room (king size sofa bed for 2 sleeps), bar table & chairs, flat screen TV. In the kitchen there are two cooking plates, microwave, coffee maker, fridge, dish-washer, wine glasses and all cooking utensils.
My husband and 2 children (ages 20 and 16) stayed here for 5 nights at the start of our 3 week trip. We slept on the foldout couch and the kids took the bed up the stairs. That is the most comfortable foldout couch I've ever slept on. It was better than some of the "real" beds we slept on during our trip.
Yes, it is up a lot of stairs, so just plan carefully so you aren't making too many extra trips up and down. :) We found that by the time we returned from sightseeing after museums and such had closed that we didn't leave again. We always had grand intentions of going out for dinner, but it never happened.
We were quite comfortable, it was a great apartment. The bathroom was spacious with great water pressure in the shower. Having a dishwasher was wonderful as was having a washing/drying machine. It was a great location. We walked almost everywhere, really didn't even take the metro at all (although we could have as it was plenty close, we just opted to walk and enjoy the city).
Thank you Yael and David for making our first overseas rental so easy and enjoyable! The apartment was exactly what we expected from the photos and description, only better in person. The hide-a-bed on the main floor was very comfortable and the loft bedroom really maximizes the living space. Having a kitchen was a nice feature, and the plush towels and toiletries provided were wonderful. Everything was clean as a whistle and the location was perfect with the Metro on the corner and centrally located for wonderful strolls to the many close by sights. Lots of delicious places to eat, from bakeries to pubs to restaurants, all nearby. Our hosts were welcoming and organized and we cannot wait to return to Paris and our home away from home in the Marais.
This is a beautiful, spacious, modern apartment, right in the heart of Paris. The beds were extremely comfortable (even the sofa bed!), the kitchen well stocked with plenty of crockery and utensils. It is bright and airy, plus beautifully quiet at night. Our hosts were so helpful & friendly - it was an absolute pleasure to stay and a wonderful way to end our Europe trip. I would highly recommend this apartment & would stay again. It does have a lot of stairs, but that didn't detract from the apartment at all.
My friend and I stayed in this apartment the 1st week of September and it was perfect! Well located, quiet and exactly as pictured. One thing to keep in mind its at the top of a building with no elevator - but that was not an issues for us.
Highly recommend it!
We had a lovely stay in this Marais apartment. The location was perfect. The apartment overlooks the courtyard, so it is quiet at night. There were many cafes and restaurants nearby and a monoprix just down the block. The apartment was just as pictured - nice, clean and comfortable, with everything you might need in a home away from home. The Metro (Rambuteau) was just down the block. All of our communications with Yael were timely and professional. We would highly recommend staying here.
Building history: originally founded in the 15th century the Hostel of the Bear and the Lion, was converted into a mansion during the 16th century by the Lords of Rocquencourt, then in the 17th century it was the house of King Henry IV intendant of finances, ... also there's engraved on the facade a vertical declining sundial of the afternoon.
This is probably the oldest dated sundial in the City of Paris: The year 1623 is inscribed in good condition and it is visible from the courtyard of the building.
Today the Marais is a trendy area in Paris known for its nightlife, restaurants, theaters, cafés, bars & terraces !
It is now also famous for the fashion boutiques on rue des Francs Bourgeois, art galleries, interior design and antics furnishing stores.
It is close to many places like the Beaubourg/Pompidou center and the Halles (2 minutes walk), Notre Dame Cathedral in the historic Ile de la Cité (10 minutes walk), place des Vosges (10 minutes walk), the famous Louvre museum is about 20 minutes walk by the Rue de Rivoli .
