Good home base for a week in Montreal
Our family of three (me, wife, 8-year-old son) stayed in this condo for our week of vacation in July, 2013. Upon arrival we were greeted by Emile and Ariane who showed us around the room, told us what was nearby, and answered all our questions. We found the apartment to be acceptably clean and in good repair. The A/C, washer, dryer, and all kitchen appliances were in good working order. We made extensive use of the wifi (including Google Voice and Skype calls to avoid ridiculous roaming charges) and found the internet to be fast and reliable. The building itself was secure, with a key fob required to open the front doors. The residents of the building seemed friendly and the common areas of the building were well-maintained.
The best feature of this property was the location. It was only a couple blocks from the Berri-UQAM metro station, from which one can get anywhere in the city via the metro or to/from the airport on the 747 bus. A small convenience/liquor store was located in the same building right outside the main door, and a grocery store and several quick-service restaurants (e.g. St Hubert chicken and Chez Cora breakfast) were a couple blocks away. Walking only a bit further, one could reach many restaurants on St-Denis and for those who may be so inclined, a variety of bars and clubs on Ste-Catherine.
There was a small pool, a couple gas grills, and a couple picnic tables on the roof, which seemed to cater mostly to the adults. Our son did use the condo's pool a couple times, but had more fun splashing around with kids his own age in the wading pools in the city parks -- for example, there is a playground and wading pool at Parc des Vétérans, an easy walk from the Papineau metro station.
Restaurants we liked: The Keg (Old Montreal and Place Ville Marie), La Banquise (poutine), Poutineville (poutine), La Dora (Italian), and Olive et Gourmando (breakfast/coffeeshop). Attractions: Atwater Market, Jean-Talon Market, Botannical Gardens, Olympic Stadium, Parc Jean-Drapeau, underground city, and international fireworks competition (we took the metro to Papineau and watched from near the Cartier bridge, across the river from La Ronde). All of the above were easily reached using public transit.
We would recommend this to a family of 4 or less -- sleeping 2 in the bed and 1 or 2 more on the couch in the picture (the back folds down). We intend to rent this condo again if it is available for our vacation in July, 2014.
