Barn, 5 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 9-19)

Lost River Barn/ Imagine having a huge restored B&B all to yourselves! The Lost River Barn is a unique and comfortable lodging facility on top of a mountain. Endless view, lots of space inside and out, decks on three sides of the barn, modern amenities.

Built in the 1930s and used as a working barn up until the 1980s, this chestnut oak beam barn still has the feel of a barn, but with all the comforts of a modern lodge. Wood and tile floors, high ceilings, lots of windows, a big handmade pine table (seats 12), and original folk art line the walls. Relax out on the deck with your favorite beverage and watch the deer, or find a movie from the movie collection and unwind on the nice soft sectional couch.

Ground floor has two bedrooms, two full baths with jacuzzi tubs, kitchen, dinning room, seating next to a gas fireplace, sun room with two full size futons that can be curtained off for privacy, dining and living room. Bedroom at top of stairs with full size bed and two single pull-outs and half bath. Open door and walk into the upper deck of the barn. Grand space with exposed barn beams and 17ft high ceiling. Two loft bedrooms, one with a full size bed and a twin cot. Second loft bedroom has two bunks, each with a full size bottom and single top. There is a cozy loft within this loft with a full size futon and single cot.

Amazing views from each of the windows.

After you get settled in, take a drive down the mountain and enjoy some horseback riding at Hidden Valley Trails near the State Park, then drive to the valley and explore the Lost River Artisan's Cooperative where local artists sell their crafts. Visit the Lost River Museum located on the ground floor of the Artisan's Cooperative. A short walk from the Artisan's Cooperative is the Lost River General Store where you can find a selection of candles, jewerly and gifts, gourmet beer and wine, and enjoy lunch and a hand dipped cone or cappuccino. Don't want to cook dinner? No problem, enjoy a delicious dinner at the award winning Lost River Guest House, just up the road from the Lost River General Store.

Cap off your beautiful and active day back at the barn stargazing the milkyway overhead. Enjoy a nice serene weekend at the Lost River Barn. It's the most unique lodging in the area.

About The Owner

Jay Moglia and Audrey Taucher bought and renovated the barn with plans to make it the perfect place for cyclists to train. Jay has been a competive cyclist for nearly 20 years and after years on the road in shoddy hotels, wanted to create a place that had all the comforts and ameneties one could ever dream up coming back to after a hard training ride.

After two years of spending entire weekends and vacation time renovating the barn, Lost River Barn was finally open for business. It has hosted some of the most competitive cycling teams in the DC region in addition to teams and competitors from Philly and Pittsburgh.

While the barn was initially created to serve as a training facility for cyclists, it is not just for cyclists. Many people use the barn for weekend and vacation get-aways, wedding anniversary's, and family reunions.

The Owner purchased this barn in 2004
Why The Owner chose Lost City

We have always loved West Virginia. The hilly terrain makes for a perfect location for cycling and hiking.

What makes this barn unique

Nothing beats mountain air and the peaceful sounds of birds chirping and watching the deer, and occassional bear, pass through.

Perfect stay for the long NYE weekend

5 of 5
Submitted: January 7, 2013 Stayed: December 2012
My crew of 10 needed a place with plenty of space and close enough to Canaan and outdoor activities over the NYE weekend. This fit the bill and then exceeded it. The owners are fantastic hosts. Arranging the rental, arriving, paying, departing - all so easy. It's a beautiful building, both lofty and cozy at the same time and surrounded by a lovely landscape. One thing to note - do map the location first in case you need something very close to civilization. It might be a bit more remote than some people would like. Hands down, we all loved it, and since we are a biking crew, we plan to come back for that later in the year.

Family Reunion

5 of 5
Submitted: July 17, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
Just returned from a fabulous family reunion at the Barn! It was perfect place for a large group. The accomodations were superb right down to the homemade cookies provided upon check-in! There was lots of open space indoors which was nice as we had one day of bad weather so we set up several cornhole games in the loft and kept right on playing! The views were fantastic and we saw lots of deer including my favorite, lots of little fawns! Hiked to the top of the ridge about a mile down the road for amazing view of the town below. Just a short drive (about 30 minutes) to kayaking and canoeing on the Potomac for a gorgeous day after the storms passed. Would highly recommend for large groups or anyone looking to get away from the city for a few days! Loved it and the owners were great with working with us on all aspects of coordinating the group and getting us all there from the north and the south and having everything we needed so once we arrived we just kicked back and relaxed!

Amazing family getaway

5 of 5
Submitted: November 30, 2011 Stayed: November 2011
Our family (9 guests) spent Thanksgiving at the barn and had an fantastic time. The interior is very comfortable with great furnishings and lots of space. The owners provided everything to make the stay easy including clean linens, plenty of cooking supplies and even a great movie selection.

The view from the barn, which is on top of a ridge, is stunning. It is also very close to the Lost River state park where we found some really nice hikes.

The trip exceeded our expectations and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the "barn" to anyone looking for a great getaway.
