Awesome European Honka Log Home on Lake Nantahala!
This property is unique compared to others on the lake! Approximately 3000 sq. ft. of living area plus 3 large decks facing the lake. Fishing and swimming from your own 20' x 26' private dock will surely be one of the most memorable highlights for the kids. You might choose to rent a pontoon boat from the neighboring Marina. If you have your own boat, launch at the nearby boat ramp and tie up at your private dock.
Come inside and 'decompress' amid the antiques and leather furniture, a casual blend of eclectic and rustic. There's no danger of feeling as if you've walked into a stale, cookie-cutter resort rental condo, as photos of family and past visitors adorn the walls and impart a welcome feeling of visiting with old friends and being a part of the family.
Views of the lake and distant mountains are wonderful from the three outside decks, where you can enjoy your meals outdoors or take a leisurely soak in the hot-tub. Drive or go by boat to the quaint mountain lakefront cafe'(828-321-3000) where you can enjoy an early breakfast and meet some of the locals, or dine informally in the evening. Enjoy the walk in steam sauna.
The Log Home is easily accessible. No need for four-wheel-drive. Quiet, comfortable lake living at it's best. Come and enjoy this Lake Front Log Home!!!! Owner managed to be sure your stay is top notch as I want our guests to return....Book today!

Lisa McMahan purchased this cabin in 2011
I am originally from nearby Robbinsville, NC and always wanted to have a second home in the area. Of all the mountain lakes in western NC and North GA my favorite is Lake Nantahala due to the pristine water, elevation (over 3,000 ft.) and mountain setting.
The Nantahala Highlands Estates is a gated community that has very little traffic and a 1.8 mile level road above the lake that is great for walking, running, or biking.
We enjoy sitting on one of the three large decks by the lake taking in the scenery, reading, and relaxing. Most of our guests like the large outdoor spa(hot tub) in any season. An outdoor fireplace is enjoyable, especially on cool days or summer evenings. Lake activities such as swimming off the dock and tubing in the summer months. Fishing the clear waters in this lake can be rewarding. Species include bass (large mouth & small mouth), trout, bream, and salmon.
We enjoy boating on our pontoon boat, traveling by water to the lake cafe in the summer months.
The fall is a beautiful time to enjoy the colorful scenery along this high elevation mountain lake.
I enjoy the snow winter brings especially looking out from the decks as it comes down over and into the lake.
Spring brings rebirth in the mountains and warmer days to enjoy outside activities.
In addition to the Lakes End Cafe, many dining choices can be had about 45 minutes away in Franklin, NC.
What a wonderful experience we had at Jerry and Lisa's beautiful home. We could not have chosen a better location and people to deal with. Lake Nantahala is beautiful, peaceful and pristine. The view from this home is one of the best, it's like opening heaven's gate when you walk out of the doors onto the deck, absolutely beautiful and take in the view for the first time. This house has everything, and I mean everything we needed! Quality items throughout the house for our use, a fully stocked kitchen with high end items, hot tub and beautiful dock with row boat. We rented a boat for our stay at the marina. Jerry and Lisa have water skis and tubing equipment there for a full day of fun! We roasted marshmallows and popped popcorn on the lower deck one evening over the fire in the outdoor fireplace. It was amazing! We would definitely book here again, our experience all around was the best!! Great for families with children or for a family get together. Everyone will be comfortable. Thanks again Jerry and Lisa for sharing your home with us!
We are a family of 6. We had a great time and loved the house. Pictures on VRBO do not do it justice. It's very beautiful. Lake is awesome. Access to lake is easy from house. We swam in lake daily with kids ages 7 to 16. It was a little chilly for my 7 year old but perfect for everyone else. He warmed up in the hot tub and the sauna anyway!
We did Canopy Ziplines and Whtewater rafting within 45 minutes drive from house.
We keep on talking about the house to everyone we know so we may have other suitors for you in due course. Thanks, Lisa and Jerry!
We have been vacationing at Lake Nantahala for the past 5 years and by far this was the best time we have ever had. Jerry and Lisa treated us like family and you can tell how much they love their home by how beautiful and how well equipped it is when you arrive. We captured a perfect picture of the sunset the first night we arrived and now have this picture blown up into a large print and framed. Our teenage boys said this is their most favorite place to vacation and my husband and I have to agree. We are extremely late writing our review but just had to thank Jerry and Lisa again for allowing us to rent their beautiful home. A lot of times you will preview pictures of a home on line and when you get there you are disappointed. Believe me when I say that you will not be disappointed with this home that you will actually be pleasantly surprised and realize that the pictures on line could not compare to what you actually see when you arrive. We did everything from boating, tubing, hiking and fishing and our boys loved the tree swing across the lake and kept going back there everyday. I agree with my sons that this is a slice of heaven. We can't wait to come back! Thank you again Jerry and Lisa!!!
Superlatives cannot describe this place adequately. We truly lucked-out !!The entire family, ages 3-72, loved every minute of our 6-day stay. The pictures on the website do not do the house justice. This is truly a lovely log home with a lighter, warm honey finish on the interiors including floors and ceilings. Very commodious: Spacious kitchen with LARGE center island, two big master BRs, cathedral ceilings, second living room on lower level, etc. Comfortable beds, with great pillows and covers. Soft and fluffy, white towels. My favorite spot was the lounge on the deck right outside the main floor master BR. There was a shady corner there, and if I tired of my book, I could enjoy the view or just snooze. The kids loved the bunk room, sitting on log stools at the center island and the bears (wooden) all around. It was hard to choose which one of the 3 decks to use. Each had its own character: sun, bar tables, lounges & hot tub on top; comfy sofa, more lounges & ample shade with a leafy, dappled view on second; and outdoor fireplace and eating table below. Easy walk to the dock. Picnic table on dock was a favorite gathering spot. Water toys to use. Corn-hole toss. We had a puzzle going on the game table. Lots of cooking pans & utensils and condiments & extra supplies in the pantry if you forgot something. Well furnished with unique and high quality items. Immaculately clean and well-maintained. Minnesota is the Land of 10,000 lakes. However, we have nothing like Lake Nantahala!! What a jewel! The views over the Smoky Mountains, from the mist of early morning to the sunsets at day's end, were awesome. We felt we had the prime spot on a truly amazing lake. How can one improve on that?! We rented a pontoon and boated down to Lakes End Grill for burgers & milkshakes. One son took his children fly fishing on the river. We had a fishing guide on the lake. There is so much to do in the vicinity. Jerry & Lisa welcomed us and showed us how everything worked. They left us with wine, watermelon and a jar of homemade, pickled okra. Thanks, Jerry and Lisa, for sharing your special spot with us. We will be back, hopefully a number of times. We would like to try Autumn some year, so we could make good use of your fireplaces & sauna. We can only imagine the mountains ablaze with glorious colors then. In addition to being the perfect place for our family to gather, we also think it would be just right for the two of us or a visit with another couple.
Our family sought a week off-the-grid in the cool(er) mountains of North Carolina. We were enticed by the beautiful lakefront setting, the proximity to hiking and rafting, and the stunning architecture of this log cabin. The reality far exceeded our expectations! The house was as perfect and more comfortable than we had hoped for. Our kids -- 13, 10 and 7 -- had the "luxury camping" vacation that matches any offered elsewhere. And we were able to fully disconnect as a family and enjoy our time away and one another. We can't thank Jerry and Lisa enough for being so welcoming and accommodating, and look forward to our next chance to enjoy their lake cabin!
We chose this cabin for its beauty and amenities and for the amazing setting overlooking the lake and mountains. We were getting away for some much need R & R with family and friends and to celebrate my birthday! The owners were very helpful and you can tell they really care about their home and want people have a great time. They even gave me a nice birthday gift upon arrival! Great touch! All in all everyone had a wonderful time at this very special place on earth. Would highly recommend!
