Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + loft, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8), 2 horse stalls

WOW, what a view! Hemlock Point is an Appalachian Log Homes cabin built in the vernacular of the Appalachian style. Square logs reminiscent of the Scotch Irish settlers in the 1700's make you feel as if you have stepped back to an earlier time. Large hemlocks, abundant on this property are rebounding from the wooly adelgids. Antiques, a claw foot bathtub, natural materials, comfy furniture, quilts, a soapstone fireplace (albeit gas logs), a gun over the mantle, a variety of varmints hung on the wall (bought at auction), a mural of a barn and horses on the basement wall, even a 'pseudo' Outhouse (1/2 bath in the basement)...collections to create an atmosphere of make believe. You are a now in the role of mountain settler, cozy up to the fire and set a spell.

The mountain ridge views from this log home are phenomenal. The breezes of refreshing mountain air are exhilarating. Looking out over 7 to 9 ridges (depends on the day) you can imagine how it looked to 'first nations' peoples and early settlers seeing it for the first time. Daniel Boone traversed these mountain ranges, living just few miles away on the Yadkin River. You certainly will believe that God was at work in building all the mountain's glory. Most of the eleven years we have rented out this cabin, our guests have commented on God's blessings for this space, this mountain, this respite in their lives. Leatherwood Mountains subdivision, a 5000 acre gated community in southern Wilkes County, NC, is well known in the horse world for its extensive horse trail system, some of the most rugged in the eastern United States. Hemlock Point cabin has two horse stalls and pasture available as well. The views, the trails, the nature, the glory will abide here for all time.

Every year of our 28+ years of marriage, we have ventured to the NC mountains. In 1997 we made the leap of faith and purchased our property at Leatherwood Mountains Resort. We appreciated their concept of stewardship in creating a human presence but maintaining the wilderness for all generations. Our 16 acres at the center of 5000 protected acres will always be a home for God's creatures.

What makes this cabin unique

Hemlock Point is designed to take you away from where ever you come from...away to an earlier time in our history, back to life of our forefathers. Life was part and parcel to the environment...the home was made from trees, the scene taken in was of God's handiwork, everything was slower and more deliberate in nature; one heard the cicadas, saw the stars in the night sky, witnessed the morning sunrise. We want there to be a place left in this busy world to relish nature. Take a horse back ride through the mountains. But all that being said, Hemlock Point is situated close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and is close to many Blue Ridge Mountain activities and points of interest. Best of both worlds!

Very sad day for us.

We decided on a whim to head out of town with our 2yr old son and just regroup as a family. Arriving at Hemlock in time for sunset on the deck was perfect.

Hard to find - but worth the hunt

Okay, so we head to the house on a Friday night - it's dark, raining hard and our first time there. We of course have our trusty GPS... but still had a hard time finding the road the house was on. The owners even warn us that most GPS units ask you to turn too early, and ours did just that. But with a little hunting we found the house. We settled in for the night and explored the house and grounds in the morning. We went hiking, swimming, and shopping in Blowing Rock (Labor day weekend - town was too crowded) We (family of 4) spent some relaxing hours reading, resting in the hot tub and looking at the mountains. The next day we went for a ride in tubes down the Yadkin river, played many games of foosball and ping pong. The whole weekend was very relaxing. The house is large enough for 8 people, and the peace and quite is just perfect. We will keep this place in mind for our next trip to the mountains. Word of caution - do not drive on the "Globe Rd" to Blowing Rock, unless you want to buy a front end alignment for car later; stick to the paved roads.

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE

There was something for everyone in our family at Hemlock Point. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch looking towards the beautiful mountains, seeing many deer and a couple of wild turkeys, relaxing in the hot tub & playing ping pong. The house was clean & well stocked with linens (beds were comfortable, too). The house had wireless internet which came in handy to navigate around Ferguson (and surrounding towns). We wanted to take the kids riding but the community had a special horse event so they were not able to experience this portion of Leatherwood. So, next time we stay we will call in advance for reservations at the stable. Our stay at Hemock Point was a blessing and we plan to stay again at this home.

Awesome View and Cabin

This cabin is one of the best we have found in this area of NC. The cabin is fabulous with comfortable beds and the kitchen is well stocked. The view from the front porch is also awesome - we were greeted by two hawks upon arrival! The cabin is also filled with antiques giving it charm and a feeling of home. The hot tub is an added bonus. We had breakfast outside in the middle of June which was wonderful since it was in the high 90s where we are from. Highly reccomend this rental!
