We rented the Good Hart Retreat to have a Family gathering for Christmas that would give us something special. And Special it was. The day we were to get there Nancy called me to make sure we knew it had snowed a foot the night before and that travel may be difficult, how many hotels would do that for you? We were traveling about 4 hours north, and the conditions did get interesting but the reward at the end was wonderful. The house is beautiful, and gave us everything we needed, including being decorated for Christmas. We spent a day at Boyne Mountain to play at the water park and so the boys could also snowboard. The evenings were spent simply enjoying each others company. We had two older children and their spouses, their combined three children at 3, 2 1/2 and a 1 1/2, our youngest son at 17, my mom and then hubby and myself and the cabin was a good fit. We have not been able to spend this much time with all of us together for a long time and it was absolutely wonderful. Everything is well maintained and items you need and more are available. We did bring our own spices for cooking because we were planning a big Christmas dinner. All of our children enjoyed themselves immensely and the grandchildren didn't want to leave. The gentleman who owns the general store just half mile away was extremely kind and charming. The next nearest store with needed items was about 12 miles away. Despite the snow, the roads had been cleared, and the folks taking care of the cabin had still gotten the drive cleared and the cabin ready, and it was very much appreciated. We could bring our Shepherd, and since she is a member of the family, we always look for a place that lets us bring her along. We also appreciated that the first floor bedroom had its own bathroom as my mom has difficulty with stairs and this was perfect for her.
Our last day Nancy called to make sure everything had gone well, we had talked when I first rented the cabin about how much this time together was going to mean for us all, and I very much appreciated the personal touch of her phone calls to ensure all went well for us.
We spent time talking and playing games, no one bothered with the internet and while the grandkids watched a couple movies, the rest of us took advantage of just enjoying the setting and each other. It was a marvelous weekend.
