Stowe House Rental Photos and Description

2 or 3 bedrooms, 2.5/3.5 bathrooms -- sleeps 4 or 6 in beds; electric aero, too

At Cent Dix Sept, adults find sanctuary. With treetop views out the sides & back, it is a truly peaceful place in all seasons. And it's spotlessly clean.

Built in 2009 & nestled at the edge of the woods overlooking a brook and conservation land, Cent Dix Sept has 3 floors & can be rented either as a 2 or 3 bedroom house. The living level features Tiger Maple floors, a fabulous chef's kitchen, living & dining areas, wet bar & guest lav with copper sink. There are 2 bedroom suites and a home theatre on the lower guest level. Upstairs, the master floor features Bird's Eye Maple floors, the 3rd bedroom suite with king tiger maple four poster & master bath with hammered copper tub & sinks, glass shower and sauna.

Sited to maximize privacy & comfort, Stowe's Bike Path, restaurants, galleries and the Mountain Shuttle are all literally 'down the hill' and less than 1/4 mile away - but you'll feel miles away in the quiet of the trees.

Walkability in winter and summer: Public transportation between the Stowe Mountain Resort and the village is free and offered in winter. Cent Dix Sept is located within easy walking distance and literally one tenth of a mile from the Mountain Road route of the shuttle (aka Route 108). The setting allows for morning walking, jogging or cycling on Stowe's bike path, followed up by freshly prepared foods and coffees served at the Harvest Market -- both an easy walk from the house. We especially enjoy sending our guests 'down the hill' for their morning lattes, croissants and the paper, should they choose to get up earlier than the rest of us. And when preparing our meals, it is especially convenient to send someone down to the market for a specialty cheese, bottle of wine or some other overlooked ingredient. Great selection of organic and locally grown foods at The Harvest Market, too.

Relax in the peace & quiet of a newly built house: Built in 2009, Cent Dix Sept features five radiantly heated zones and two air conditioned floors. Extremely well insulated for sound and heat, Cent Dix Sept was also built with carpeted stairs, to keep the house especially quiet. Blonde tiger maple floors on the main level are warm and gorgeous and the bird's eye maple floors upstairs are exquisite. We've packed quite a lot into the 2700 square feet of this home, including a second story cantilevered porch and lower level deck with sunken Sundance hot tub. The wet bar is fully outfitted and the kitchen offers every kitchen gadget you could imagine, and then some. Designed for foodies who love to entertain, we fully enjoy this house, as do our guests. There's no doubt you'll make some wonderful memories here.

Arts, Culture and Entertainment in Stowe : Summer activities include Stoweflake's Hot Air Ballooning Festival, Concerts in the Meadow up at the Trapp Family Lodge, outdoor arts festivals, culinary dinners and our weekly Sunday Farmer's Market. Our 55th Annual Antique Car Show is scheduled for the second weekend in August 2012, an event guaranteed to entertain and excite everyone, as it does every year. And always gets me thinking about buying a vintage roadster for summer fun.

Fall is also lovely, here in Stowe. Evening temperatures are cool and days are warm. New England is known for its gorgeous foliage and our area features spectacular sugar maples that glow in every shade from sunshine yellow to scarlet. Foliage peaked last year between Oct 8 - 12.

Stowe's winter reputation is world-renowned! We're home to Mount Mansfield, the highest peak in Vermont, and the Stowe Mountain Resort and Spa.

Come experience Stowe and leave, having made new friends and wonderful memories.

Guestbook comments from the owner
My wife loved this house. She had asked me to plan our spring holiday and I thought I'd try to rent directly from a homeowner. I never thought we'd find a beautiful house, without a rental agent. This house is beautifully decorated and well located for walks and bike rides with the kids. The Swimming Hole is nearby and the indoor water slide was a winner for my kids. It is quiet and we enjoyed the upstairs privacy of the master floor, while the kids and our nanny stayed downstairs. We never even heard them, unless we were together in the same room. A really great house.

It's in my heritage to design and build beautiful residences. My family's been at it, since 1917 in the suburban Boston area. I'm especially proud to tell you that it was my father who designed and built Julia Child's Cambridge kitchen, the one that is currently on display at the Smithsonian AND the one that was featured in the movie, Julie & Julia. It's my preference to share Cent Dix Sept with like-minded folks who enjoy the finer things of our world and lead respectful lives. Audi drivers are especially welcome. ; )

Chris Friedrich purchased this house in 2004

Cent Dix Sept's location is what first caught my eye. The original house was a tear-down, but it took me two years to muster up the courage to actually do it. Built to be my retirement house (ha!), I took a high paying bankruptcy turnaround gig instead -- and now, enjoy living with my dogs at a nearby farm where the house is more forgiving of my quadrupeds. The benefit to this arrangement is that Cent Dix Sept is always clean and fragrance-free.

The walkability and quality of furnishings & aesthetics set this property apart from all others in Stowe. You just won't have the combination of nearby access to The Harvest Market & Stowe's Rec Path with the nurturing & beautiful interior of Cent Dix Sept. Absolutely, there are larger gorgeous properties in our town -- but if you're looking for something intimate and comfortable for 2-6 people, I would bet you won't find anything comparable and urge you to check out the other available houses in Stowe. Call me, if you have questions. 781.254.9941

Our family spent a week in Stowe and loved staying in this beautiful and well maintained house!! It was convenient to everything including the Stowe recreational path, the Stowe Village, canoeing, hiking, Mr. Mansfield, and even zip lining. It definitely made our vacation more relaxing! We loved Stowe and would definitely return and stay here again!! Thank you to the owner who was very helpful and does an outstanding job in preparing for your stay. We wish we were back in Stowe right now (the weather was much nicer than Florida during the summer!!)

We've stayed in many hotels, apartments and houses in Stowe, and this stay was by far our best and most enjoyable Stowe experience. There was no detail missed in the design of this house. It was cozy and comfortable, and you can't beat the location. We walked to the Farmer's Market, into town for dinner and ice cream, and to the Harvest Market grocery store at the bottom of the hill for morning coffee and muffins. And to top it off, the owner is incredibly hospitable, reliable, wordly, and just fun to be around. We will definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: How very nice! And I didn't even have to pay them! Seriously, though, a lovely family with two children who were beautifully behaved, well mannered and great conversationalists, in their own right. Really lovely rental clients. I look forward to welcoming them back to Cent Dix Sept.

I rented this home as a family getaway, to enjoy a couple days of relaxation with my son, who was off for parents weekend from Norwich University. The house was absolutely gorgeous -- very well located, spanking clean, and superbly decorated. Owner Wendyll has provided every amenity you can think of - kitchen is fully outfitted with everything from martini glasses to a Cuisinart. I was able to cook a wonderful home-cooked meal for my Norwich "rook" and we all enjoyed the sauna, hot tub and beautiful surroundings. This was truly a perfect stay, and we will definitely rent again!!

Thank you so much,

Kim, Patrick & Maggie Martin

Our family had a spectacularly wonderful summer vacation week in Stowe. There are many reasons for this but we are certain that the Cent Dix Sept house was a major part of our pleasure. The property itself is beautiful, well appointed and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked for any type of cooking. We also enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit a few evenings. You should also know that the location is exceptional, being very close to the heart of Stowe Village.

The Green Mountains are lush and beautiful with fresh clean air and scenic in so many ways with many activities and places to visit. We enjoyed the Ben & Jerry's tour, horseback riding and fishing among other things. As for Stowe, it is a clean, friendly and pleasant village that is easy to get around in with many fine places to eat. The 7-mile Rec Path is a true highlight, cutting through and around the village with great vistas. In all, we could not have been more pleased with our stay and look forward to a return visit in our future.

Owner's Response: This couple came to Cent Dix Sept with their two children and their niece for a one week stay in July. The weather was perfect and the kids had great fun cycling the Rec Path by day and toasting marshmallows in the fire pit at night. The proximity of the house to the village amenities definitely contributed to everyone having such a great time. Stowe is an exceptionally safe community with many restaurants and even more options for recreational entertainment. Please come for a visit and learn firsthand why our town has the reputation it does!

Our week at this rental was simply fabulous. The house is as described and pictured, and is impeccably and personally maintained by the owner. For those who prioritize privacy as we do, there are neighbors on the street, but the orientation of the house is such that you will not notice them, nor they you.

Now, the kitchen. Yes, the it is superbly laid out and equipped with professional grade appliances, but that's the easy part. The owner is clearly a fellow foodie and has supplied what most vacation rentals skimp on: excellent knives, cookware, and just about every culinary accoutrement you'd ever need or want. There is charcoal grill, or if you're feeling lazy or simply tenderfoot, a gas grill as well. Wood, charcoal, and propane are supplied on site.

It was a perfectly relaxing week and we can't recommend this rental highly enough. Already looking forward to the next visit!

Owner's Response: This Manhattan couple had originally booked Cent Dix Sept to enjoy with another couple -- but something came up and only the original two people were able to get away to Stowe for their holiday week. I think that the combination of proximity to the Rec Path, the Harvest Market for fresh breads, coffees and unusual ingredients -- and the lovely private setting -- made for a marvelous summer holiday for these guests. When they first contacted me, they told me of having rented a house in Europe last year with problems that couldn't be resolved. I assured them that they'd have no problems at Cent Dix Sept. Upon arrival, they were impressed with the quality and attention to detail shown throughout the house. There is a cantilevered deck with a perpetual breeze that overlooks the woods & brook below that is beautifully shaded all day long. To be able to sit in peace and read or enjoy a glass of wine and NOT be out in the sticks, is a delight to city dwellers. Perfect for a couple or a group of adult friends looking to get away and chill, this house won't ever disappoint. And I think if they could have, they would have stayed another week.

How much more fun can it get? We are walking distance to Stowe's Bike Path and the Harvest Market, with their fine array of morning coffees, prepared foods, wines and freshly baked breads. And that also makes us walking distance to the Mountain Road and the free shuttle that runs from 7am until 10pm between the Stowe Mountain Resort and our nearby village. Our local stop is at the Town & Country Inn on the Mountain Road or en route and with a wave of your hand.

Fly into Burlington and use Peg's Pick-Up for local transport to Stowe. Or drive to town via I-89 to Exit 10 -- which takes you to Route 100 North and right into the village. We're located just about one mile up the mountain road, aka Route 108, and six miles from the mountain.

Cent Dix Sept was designed as a luxurious sanctuary for adults. The pantry features a wet bar and barware for cocktails and wine. Exterior and interior stairway railings are cabled and inappropriate for small children. Two home theatre areas are available -- one on the lower guest level and the other on the main level. Television is by cable and internet is high speed wireless. Network has a code. The chef's kitchen was built with a pot filler & utility faucet and was designed with the gourmet dinner party in mind. Henckels knives, Villeroy mugs, All-Clad and Calphalon cookware provided and we ask that the Calphalon NOT be put through the dishwasher. Should you prefer lighter weight cookware, it is also available.
