Beautifully designed, this luxurious south-west view, corner penthouse on the harbour’s edge creates a unique sensory experience for the sophisticated traveler. The suite was renovated, May 2011, and the use of local materials, suppliers and trades makes it uniquely Victoria. Furnished to 'stand out from the crowd,” all fabrics and furniture pieces were selected by Interior Designer, Teresa Ryback, who is recognized for creating grand prize lottery dream homes and luxury residential properties. The Pied-à-Terre features two balconies on the main level that open to create a refreshing cross breeze and a private, rooftop deck that can be accessed via an in-suite staircase (luxury yacht-type ladder) or by way of elevator and stairs from the building’s hallway. A verdured, common-area adjoins the Pied-à-Terre’s private roof deck, where a gas barbeque is accessed on a first-come basis.

Everything We Hoped For, and More!

The Pied-à-Terre was everything pictured on the VRBO website and even more; the owner and manager were a combination of totally efficient business with wonderful, gracious personalities and more.

The building and underground garage have security locks and the elevator does also. The condo was immaculately maintained and clean, all appliances new and working (including the fireplace), well laid out, fantastic views (from two private patios), great cross-ventilation, sleeps three (but really designed for two) – all with the owner's personal design talents on quiet display.

The location – perfect for walking in the city; less than 10 minutes from the Port Angeles ferry by vehicle.

Just What We Wanted

This was our second stay for a month at Mermaid Wharf, this time in a much more desirable condo. We love to watch all the activity on the Upper Harbour and this corner unit, with its two, floor- to-ceiling walls of glass in the living room, suited us perfectly. Of particular interest was the construction of the new Johnson Street bridge, which we viewed from ringside seats.
Major positive points:- very well equipped kitchen; comfortable bed; cozy heat from fireplace;lots of cupboard space throughout; excellent location relative to Chinatown and everything downtown; rooftop patio; underground, in-building garage; and adequate for two people, partly covered deck, equipped with table and chairs.
The condo was spotless and all furniture and appliances were in excellent condition.
Collette was always available if we needed her and was most helpful when we did.
We would definitely recommend this property to singles or couples of all ages.

Views, great location and more!

I was looking for a stylish and comfortable place to have a ladies getaway weekend and this proved to be the perfect spot! It has beautiful views of the city and a very contemporary and warm feel to the space. We were perfectly set up for an easy day of shopping, dinner out and then a night of relaxation by the fire. Everything is within walking distance. What a treat!

I wish this condo was available everywhere we holiday!!!

We arrived at the Condo a hour earlier due to the wonderful flexibility of Colette. The condo is excellent and maintained very well. No disappointment whatsoever. The pictures of the condo are as advertised and the comfort of the condo and what it contained was superb. The Johnson street bridge was being dismantled and a new one built, the noise OK was evident in the morning but not a big deal that it spoils you're holiday. Actually it was quite fascinating to watch whilst you were still in. The condo is very clean and in an excellent position within downtown Victoria. The views from the living room and balcony were excellent. All Victoria attractions are all within walking distance. Colette and Teresa were very responsive to any requests we had and so professional. The canoe club was excellent too as a local venue for good food & drink especially when the wind chill temperature was at -9!! We could not fault this condo at all, we loved it and I wish we could take it with us everywhere we went. Thank you Colette and Theresa.

Elegant Home away from home in Victoria

This was our first visit to Victoria, four wonderful weeks, mostly in the month of August. This was a great month to visit the city, in the peak of the summer tourist season with an incredible number of spectacular events to enjoy centred in the inner harbour area. Since the penthouse was located barely 10 walking minutes away it was central to all these activities (e.g. classic boat show, Blues fest, night markets, noon hour live music, buskers, Bateman art show and Museum), plus a great choice of restaurants and superb shopping.
The rental was immaculate, and matched the description and photos shown. This corner suite gave incredible views of both the Inner and Upper Harbours as well as providing cooling cross-breezes that kept us comfortable on the hottest of days. The furniture was most comfortable and it quickly felt like home. The kitchen was well equipped with all the tools we needed and we easily prepared our own meals - although there were great places to eat out. Our favourite is Red Fish Blue Fish and we would certainly like to visit Victoria again, hopefully staying here.

Exceeded my expectations

After seeing the pictures of the condo, I had very high expectations. The condo did not disappoint.

General: The condo is in excellent condition, and is like new. Everything is as advertised. The condo was very clean.

Decor: The condo is very well-decorated. I enjoyed the furnishings and the colors. I immediately felt right at home. The bed was super-comfortable.

Views: The views from the living room, balcony, and private rooftop were great.

Location: The condo is in a perfect location for enjoying all that Victoria has to offer. If you are just visiting the city itself, you do not need a car. I was able to walk to a variety of excellent restaurants. There are restaurant choices to fit every taste. Nightlife and the downtown harbor attractions are all within walking distance.

Details: I appreciated the small details. There is a printer/computer in the unit. The kitchen is well-stocked with everything you need to cook if you choose to do so. I was in Victoria for the first rainfall in a month's time, so I was happy to find an umbrella waiting in the closet!

Negatives: As a previous reviewer noted, there is a good bit of noise. They currently are building a bridge right outside the window, and it sounds like someone is running a jackhammer for 9 hours a day. However, the noise was not a problem at night. At night you have the typical city noises of cars, horns, etc., but I was able to drown out the noise by using one of the fans that was provided. As noted by the previous reviewer, the climb to the private rooftop is hazardous and somewhat of a hassle. But, you do have the alternate options of taking the stairs/elevator to the rooftop to avoid any hazards.

It was a little annoying that the bathroom was not closer to the bedroom, but that was not a big deal. Finally, it would have been nice to have free long distance to the US and Canada. The condo where I stayed last summer had this, and it was very helpful in avoiding the steep roaming charges associated with international travel. When I attempted to call Colette's (my contact person) cell phone from the condo, I was not able to do so because it was a long distance call. Therefore, I had to use my cell phone to make an expensive call just to make arrangements to check out.

Summary: I highly recommend the condo. If you can deal with the negatives I mentioned, you will love this place.
