BEACHFRONT HOME, STEPS TO THE BEACH, MARINA AND GOLF COURSE

Nanoose Bay House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Edgemere is a fully appointed, completely renovated West Coast home on a secluded beach. The house is close to the Nanaimo ferries and a short float plane ride from Vancouver. The house is centrally located for your Vancouver Island adventure - Victoria and Nanaimo to the south, Mount Washington (skiing), Courtney, Comox, Campbell River and many smaller islands to the north. Enjoy a short cross island drive to Cathedral Grove (a fabulous old-growth forest), Uclulet (fishing, whale watching) and Tofino (Pacific Rim National Park, surfing and whale watching). The kids will enjoy mini-golf, fossil hunting and sandcastle building just 10 minutes away in Parksville/Qualicum Beach, and chasing the bunnies at Rathrevor Park.

From the beach or large west-facing windows, watch the cruise ships sail up the Georgia Strait, enjoy the antics of the seals, and marvel at the majesty of eagles. Explore the tidal pools and pick shells on the pebble beach. On sunny afternoons, the beach rocks warm the water and the swimming is perfect. Charter a fishing boat and catch a salmon for dinner. Relax with a glass of BC wine and watch the sun set on the beach. Golf at nearby Fairwinds golf course or hike the many paths around the course and pick blackberries in season. Enjoy fine dining at the marina and golf course.

Architect-designed, the house flows naturally down the cliff towards the water and provides excellent views of the Georgia Strait and islands from the living rooms and the deck. The layout provides private sleeping areas away from the dining areas, main and lower living areas. The two larger bedrooms, one with two double beds and one with a king size bed, have double doors opening on to the deck. The third bedroom, with a queen-size bed, has an en-suite bathroom. The open-concept kitchen and main floors are perfect for cooking and entertaining. Enjoy a barbeque or catch some sun on the adjoining sunny 800-square foot deck. The “eagle’s nest” in the front window is a perfect vantage point for watching storms, wild life, reading or just napping.

I'm a Toronto professional who has enjoyed the tranquility, mild weather and outdoor activities of the West Coast for more than 20 years. My sons enjoy fishing, whale watching and golf. I enjoy exploring the smaller islands, hiking, trying local wines, and relaxing by the water's edge.

Louise purchased this house in 2004

Friends in the area, the laid-back lifestlye and the micro-climate of Nanoose Bay (we can grow figs and fuchsia!), which is drier than other areas of British Columbia, drew me to Nanoose Bay.

For those who prefer to relax indoors, you will feel as if you on the deck of a ship overlooking the sea. You are steps to a quiet, secluded beach and close to many amenities.

FAMILY FUN

  • 4 of 5
We recently stayed at Edgemere with our 2yr old son & 2 dogs. The place is fantastic! Loved the layout of the house for privacy & sound control with doors to separate sections of the house & rooms on either end. My son could nap quietly away from it all in an unfamiliar place. The kitchen is well equipped. However some of the dishes should be tossed and there was no sugar for coffee or salt for cooking. A multi- purpose cleaner would be nice for sterilization. The beach is like no other. I found beautiful shells & fossil rocks. So quiet & serene. The dogs loved exploring on the beach. Though I wish the yard was a little bigger as the weather wasn't great. But 10min drive away is the regional park or drive towards town & there's a huge dog friendly field. Because I worked in the hospitality industry for 15yrs, I expect the best. Some of the features at Edgemere were not to brag about. Two of the four beds were horrible. One had dirty sheets (luckily we brought our own blankets!) & the king size bed I wanted to sleep in had a huge sag in it, but was perfect for my son. With a bit more attention to detail to accommodate guests, this place could be superb. Will definitely recommend to friends or family for futures stays.

BEAUTIFUL, UNIQUE VACATION HOME!

  • 5 of 5
This is a very unique, comfortable vacation home. We arrived to find it spotless, with fresh fruit on the counter and lovely fresh flowers on the kitchen table. The layout is perfect for 3 couples, each bedroom is very private. The view is spectacular, as you are right on the water! There was firewood left for us to start a fire, as soon as we arrived. The owner was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had previous to arriving and there were contact numbers in case we had any questions or issues when we arrived (which we did not). Nanoose Bay is a lovely little community and we hope to return someday!

THE PERFECT COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the cottage at the end of August. We had 5 teenagers and a dog with us. The cottage had more than enough space for all of us. We enjoyed the beach all day(at the cottage as well as the beaches in Parksville), Coombs Marketplace, the hiking trails both near the cabin and the Englishman Falls, the Organic Farm down the road from the cottage and the sunset on beach at night. We also loved the fireplace-what a great room for family game night! All in all it is a great place to stay!

AWESOME CABIN BY THE OCEAN

  • 4 of 5
We had the pleasure of staying in this awesome cabin for one week. The pictures accurately portrayed the property and the write up described the place perfectly! Nanoose Bay is a hidden gem on the island and provided us with the rest and relaxation we were looking for! Our vacation could not have been better! Even with the leaking skylight in the master bedroom and the kitchen lights that worked when they wanted to! The beach at the bottom of the stairs was amazing, and the golfing at the Fairwinds was beyond expectations! We would recommend this property to our family and friends. Thank-You Louise for allowing us into your beautiful home!

BEST OF THE WEST

  • 5 of 5
This stunning cottage was everything described and more in the review. Beautiful, bright and clean with spectacular view of water and mountains. Spacious living with huge bedrooms and comfortable beds. The rocky beach was lovely and suitable for young children. Enjoy cooking in the fully equipped kitchen while watching the water and seeing deer run by your door. The owner was most helpful providing all the details of the cottage and more. My family had an amazing, relaxing vacation. Plan to visit again, highly recommend, exceeded expectations!!!

LOVELY HOUSE BUT NEEDS SOME ATTENTION

  • 4 of 5
This is a lovely, spacious house with an amazing view over the ocean and access down to the beach. We stayed for the Christmas week and enjoyed the blazing log fire. There are some local walks and house is close to both Nanaimo and Qualicum Beach. However, our stay was somewhat marred by the lack of attention to the following: (a) there was no firewood and we had to use our truck to pick-up a load of wood, unload it etc. (b)the kitchen lighting was very poor - some lights didn't work and the rest kept going off when they got too hot - we ended up making turkey dinner by flashlight (c) similarly, the lighting for the living/dining areas was very poor and we kept having to move floor lamps around (d) the kitchen was poorly stocked with pots and pans and we had to bring our own over from Qualicum - same for cups. The contact person was not particularly helpful. Anyway, we still had a nice time - lighting probably wouldn't be an issue during the summer.

Owner's Response: Sorry for the problems you experienced - unfortunately the previous guests enjoyed a prolonged power outage (and phenomenal storm watching) and used all of the firewood. Thanks for the note regarding holiday wood delivery - it is now in the book. The winter lighting issues were never apparent in the long summer days (we have not rented the place out in winter in the past) and are being addressed, along with the bathroom plug. Each bedroom was recently equipped with standing and table lamps for bedtime reading, and the kitchen has been restocked to handle a party of 20. Hope we have addressed your concerns.
