Nestled off a private loop on Grassy Mountain near Little Switzerland, a rental cabin awaits you. 'R' Place is a family-owned 3-bedroom cabin named for the Matriarch (Ruby) who envisioned a place of Relaxation, Rest, Rejuvenation, and Refreshing activities. The double-decked structure offers a view of Mt. Mitchell and sometimes a bear and her cubs. It is the perfect place to enjoy a family dinner and a movie or to plan the next day's adventure. Relax in the large Jacuzzi tub and refresh yourself with a good night's sleep in one of the Sleep Number beds.

The cabin is unique with the wood for the interior taken through the whole process by builder/owner Dan. Decorated with a mix of antiques and comfortable new furniture 'R' Place lends itself to be your vacation haven.

About The Owner

This house is owned by Dan and sister Lois. We fell in love with Little Switzerland while traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. We bought the property 20 years ago and finished this house last fall. We harvested trees from the site and the family farm in West Virginia to make flooring and poplar paneling and cabinets. Both of us are retired teachers and enjoy our time in the mountains with our families.

WONDERFUL, RELAXING, and BEAUTIFUL haven to escape to

My wife and I spent 4 days/nights there and with each day we grew more and more relaxed! The view is spectacular, the facilities are very nice, comfortable, clean, and most accommodating! The cabin is secluded enough for some solitude, but still close enough that one doesn't feel isolated should an emergency arise. The owner was very helpful and informative about the directions to get there, and there is provided a notebook of nearby restaurants, attractions, etc.

We can't say enough nice about the place, the people, and the stay!

This is a wonderful place to stay. We felt we were on the very top of the mountain. The Blue Ridge Parkway and golf are not far away. The cabin was perfect for 3 couples. All of the couples had a separate bath. And there was a bedroom with bunk beds that we did not need. There is a TV room and a separate room with fireplace for a very nice conversation area so no one is confined to one area. There are also 2 decks and a front porch with a swing. The photos were helpful and true. Everything was clean and neat. The owners were available to answer my questions. There is an album that relays who this family is and why it has the name R Place - very interesting. We will be back!

Wonderful Get Away

I was fortunate enough to spend a long weekend in this beautiful cabin with some very dear friends. The cabin offered spectacular views from the deck and a cozy atmosphere inside for visiting. The kitchen was well equipped and there was plenty of space for lingering over a meal and enjoying conversation. The cabin was clean and well care for with comfy beds for rest after a long day of visiting local attractions. "R Place" is a great choice if you are looking for some rest and relaxation. Looking forward to another stay.

Beautiful mountain view and all the comforts of home

What a great cabin, built by the owner, beautiful wood, very clean, wonderful deck view, comfortable beds and easy to cook for a few people. We loved sitting on the deck with a glass of wine and talking to our friends. It was a great get away with our close friends. If you are looking for a view, some quiet time, comfort and TV if you need it, you will enjoy this cabin. We are looking forward to another stay.
