Wonderful hosts. Fantastic apartment.

We stayed for 1 week at the end of January. Debbie and Tom were superb hosts who have thought of just about everything to make one’s stay perfect. The use of the washer and dryer, the beautiful flower arrangement, the complimentary beers in the fridge, the bunch of bananas and the ability to pick fresh fruit and avocados from their trees were especially appreciated. The bird life on the adjacent stone cliff was amazing. The property is a long way from the prime tourist areas and the neighbourhood gives exposure to traditional Kauai. One minor problem was tiny flying non-biting insects that were attracted to lights at night. We had to keep the windows shut when the lights were on, as they were small enough to get through the screens. They seem to have short lives, as almost all were dead in the mornings when we woke up. These are apparently only a problem during the short rainy season, and wouldn’t be a reason for not considering this rental, which was otherwise spotlessly clean. The apartment was much larger than other condos we stayed at. Strongly recommended.
Owner's Response: John and Carell thank you for all the great compliments. It was certainly a pleasure meeting you and having you as our guests. Glad to hear the gnats did not detract from your stay, and that you were able to enjoy the beauty of the Waimea Valley especially the birds.

A bit of Paradise in Waimea

This lovely place is in an orchard along the river and has easy access to the south coast of Kauai as well as Waimea Canyon. We enjoyed the chirping birds and the floral landscaping. We stayed in the lower level studio, which was very clean. Debbie and Tom provided lovely essentials as well as MANY EXTRA amenities: floral bouquets, books, coffee, tea, other beverages, BBQ grill, hiking sticks, beach gear, luxurious towels, golf clubs, free laundry facilities, convenient off-street parking, and even a nightlight.  Their hospitality and the many plusses far outweighed any minor inconveniences.
Debbie and Tom are gracious hosts. They welcomed us with hugs and a tour of the gardens. We enjoyed staying with Debbie and Tom. We met as strangers and parted as friends. We hope Debbie and Tom will visit us in Kansas some day. They practice the spirit of Aloha.
Owner's Response: Gary and Louise thank you for your lovely review. We are continually blessed by wonderful people such as yourselves who grace our home with their presence. We agree, we met as strangers and parted as friends. Loved hearing the story about how you two met. May you have many more memorable moments together. And, if we ever do get to Kansas, we'll be sure to look you up. A hui hou.

Great Place for our 15th Anniversary

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Waimea at Tom and Debbie's place. They really helped make our stay special in a way that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. They greeted us personally when we arrived. Then, Tom took us on a tour of their fabulous orchard full of banana, citrus, mango, star fruit and coconut trees. They're some of the most hospitable people I've ever met.

The room was small, adequate size for two plus a kid or two, and absolutely spotless. There's a papaya orchard right next to it, a river in the back, and a sheer cliff wall on the other side of the road. You only have neighbors on one side. We came back early from Waimea Canyon, just a short drive from here, and spent the rest of the day drinking fresh squeezed juice in the orchard instead of going anywhere. Tom and Debbie encouraged us to take as much from the orchard as we wanted, so I started everyday by picking fresh fruit which really cut down on food expenses.

It's tucked away off the main road which is good since the beaches in this area aren't the greatest, and the cities are less tourist friendly. Tom also took us to a secluded beach area which we really enjoyed, despite getting soaked by a surprise wave. Don't count on him being able to do the same. I think it just fit in his schedule and we were fortunate enough to also be available.

You'll hear roosters crow every morning and throughout the day, but we also stayed in the North and went to several other spots and got the same. It's part of the Kauai experience.

The drive up to the place may feel a little intimidating for the more timid of travelers, but the road is paved the whole way to their house. Try to arrive in daylight and drive the road a couple times in Google street view before you go so you're familiar with your surroundings. We left the airport in Lihue about 4:30 pm and arrived there just before sunset without any problems. You'll pass the foot bridge on the way. Just keep heading down the narrow road and look for their place on the right side of the road.

This is a fantastic home base for exploring Waimea Canyon and Polihale Beach. I think it was underpriced for what they're offering. Getting to know Tom and Debbie was the best part. If we ever return to Kauai I don't need to do any looking around for where to stay.

Owner's Response: David and Oksana we were so honored to be a part of your 15th anniversary "honeymoon". From the moment you arrived at our property, there was such a wonderful connection, so it was our pleasure to spend time with you and to help make your memories lasting ones. You were such good sports and able to have a good laugh when the wave caught you on the beach. Thank you for choosing to spend your special time with us. We were truly blessed by your presence along with your love and passion for life.

Thank you so much for being excellent hosts and providing everything exactly as advertised!
We loved the location within the local community, yet convenient to visit Waimea Canyon and the beaches. We appreciated the nice, spiffy clean apartment with the spacious covered lanai, gorgeous orchard and exotic flowers.
Everything was available, from kitchen gadgets to toiletries to beach equipment.
We had a great time and wish we stayed longer.
Many Mahalo’s, until we meet again,
Owner's Response: Mike, Ruth and Ace we wish you had been here longer too. The time went way too fast, but we certainly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know you and hear some of your stories. Ruth you have an amazing eye for photos. Loved all the ones you took of the yard. Thank you for sending them.

This place was better than advertised! Can we give it a 10! Very comfortable, nicely decorated, modern and equipped with everything we needed, a beautiful spot, nice outside dining, and freedom to explore the orchard and pick the fruit. Tom and Deb were very nice and could not have been more helpful during our stay as well as before and after.
It is very convenient for the west side, Kokee State Park, beaches, and not that far to Lihue. We did move to Kapaa for the 2nd half of our stay but the drive from Waimea would not be that bad to explore the east and north side. If we return to Kuaia we will stay with them again and will certainly recommend their place to our friends.
Owner's Response: Jim and Lynn we always get such joy out of meeting people like yourselves who choose to stay with us and then enjoy their time here in the Waimea Valley as much as you did. Thank you for your review. We hope we do get to see you on Kauai again.

Located in the Waimea Valley along the Waimea River on the sunny side of Kauai is peace and tranquility away from the crowds and tourist sites. Come and experience Hawaiian country where horses often graze alongside the road and the majestic song of birds greet the day. Away from distracting city lights, relax on the patio at the end of the day and witness the magical night sky. Waimea maybe small town yet holds its own with plenty of places to dine, a movie theater, grocery stores, ice cream parlor, public library, and yearly events such as Waimea Days in February and the Lighted Christmas Parade in December. It is the gateway to Waimea Canyon, “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”, and Koke’e National Park with numerous hiking opportunities.
