HEMINGWAY COUNTRY: ERNEST HEMINGWAY spent 19 of his first 20 summers on Walloon Lake at his family's cottage which is still owned by family. Walloon Lake figures so prominently in his novels and short stories. You can spend a week touring Hemingway sites in Petoskey, 15 minutes from the Walloon Lake Cottage. Check out the Little Traverse Historical Museum. The Perry Hotel in Petoskey hosts a Hemingway Weekend every fall, arranged by the Michigan Hemingway society. Eat at the Perry, City Park Grill and Jesperson's Restaurant, some of Hemingway's favorite hang outs.
WATER SPORTS: Water skiing and wake boarding could not be better than on Walloon Lake with the warm water and 'flat' conditions morning and evening. You can ski in non crowded conditions unitl you can't ski another foot! Or crusie the shoreline enjoying the beauty of the summer cottages that dot the shore. Where else can you see historic farmhouses and barns from you boat? The color of the water is unlike anything you have ever seen. You have to experience it in person to understand.
