Christmasberry cottage was originally constructed in 1991. It was my mother’s home until 2006. We have repainted inside and out, added a beautiful gas fireplace, replaced refrigerator and range and decorated with Hawaiian artifacts, Pegge Hopper and Karen Spachner prints.
For your vacation, you have a whole 1250 square foot, three bedroom house. There is one full bathroom and one bathroom with shower. There are two lanais, a large one overlooking the ocean and a smaller tiled porch from which you can watch and listen to the birds while basking in the morning sun. You have exclusive use of the two stall garage for your vehicles and toys. Your washer and dryer are also located there.
Design and decor: Outside, the house has the look of a traditional country home: red hip roof and green siding.
Inside, the living and dining areas are airy and inviting. Flooring in the big living room is beautiful native Ohia hardwood. Each of the bedrooms is uniquely decorated. My Geisha room has two Japanese inspired platform futons, and oriental style fabrics. The Ukulele room has a fun retro feel. The sunny master bedroom invokes a fragrant flower lei motif. Every room has big windows bringing nature close. Six people are accommodated comfortably.
Our stay at Christmasberry was from December 25-Jan 9th 2015. This cottage is nestled in the beautiful Kona coffee farms, at 2200 feet "up country" above Kona. It was a fabulous jumping-off point for our stay on the Big Island with our two grown sons. It is quiet and secluded, with the sounds only of birds and crickets to soothe you morning and night. The many amenities of the house include boogie boards, binoculars for birdwatching, many tourist guidebooks, and beach towels, in addition to what is listed in the VRBO listing. The owners, Margie and Bill, bent over backwards to be sure we were always comfortable, including greeting us with a large fruit basket as well as a jar of passionfruit jam made by Margie. The nearby town of Holualoa is a tiny enclave of very talented artists, great for an afternoon stroll. We felt like we were actually living with the Hawaiians rather than with the other tourists. I would highly recommend this to anyone seeking a peaceful retreat for their visit, and especially to anyone unfamiliar with this island, since Bill and Margie are a wealth of information! Without a doubt this was a wonderful home-base for our Big Island holiday. The cottage was as advertised, very clean and live-in ready after a stop at the grocery store. The view overlooking Kona and the ocean was awesome. Being farm people we were thrilled to have a quiet, safe location with an abundance of trees and birds to enjoy. The hospitality that Margie and Bill provided made our holiday extra special.

My wife and I had a wonderful 10-day ( February 11-20) stay at the Christmasberry Cottage. The 3-bedroom and 2-bath house is located near Holualoa at about 2200 ft in a safe gated community. The nights were cool but with a few blankets and a gas fireplace heater, the house was very comfortable. Margie, the owner, is a wonderful host who provided a basket of fruit on our arrival. Margie lives close by, so any house concerns can be immediately resolved. The full kitchen allowed us to prepare the majority of our meals in the house. The outside lanai allows for a beautiful view of kona, day or night. The house is surrounded by coffee bean farms and sits near the top of a hill on 5-acres of private land. Access to Kona is only a 15 minute drive down Palani Street. There are a number of restaurants close by in Holualoa. Many of the coffee farms are located on nearby Mamalahoa Hwy. If you want to get away from the tourist traps and heat down in Kona, this is the place for you.

We just recently stayed at Christmasberry Cottage for the month of January. It was our first family vacation to Hawaii and I was terribly nervous about booking a rental home online without knowing anything about the big island.
Our time here was so special, memorable and fun. The cottage is lovely. It had more then enough space for my large family of 6. My 4 young children had rooms to sleep in, a living room to relax in and more space outside to play and let their imaginations run wild. There were fruit trees all around the property that amazed us each day. So many different plants and flowers and room for my children to explore.
The owners Margie and Bill truly made our stay there so special. They were so kind and welcoming to us. When we were making plans online they were easy to deal with and answered any questions or concerns we had. While we were staying there if there was anything we needed or felt we were missing, they were prompt and saw to it that we had what we asked for. Margie would surprise us occasionally with gifts of fresh fruit which were gobbled up quickly by my family. Both Margie and Bill took time to help us when we had questions about beaches and maps. They provided plenty of books to help us plan out our days. There were also lovely books on the birds of Hawaii which you can see and hear so many right on your lanai.
We loved our time there and will treasure that vacation always. We most certainly recommend this property to you as a wonderful place to stay.
Christmasberry Cottage is located above Kailua-Kona near historic Holualoa town. The newly redecorated house is set in an ohia- koa forest. It is an agricultural property with coffee, macadamia nut, citrus and banana trees. Situated up-country away from the hustle, bustle and heat of town, soft breezes, birdsong and an ocean view await you. Yet you are only 15-20 minutes from Kailua-Kona’s many amenities. Vacation here in this charming home and enjoy privacy, space and security in a gated community.
Nature lovers will find this an ideal locale. From November to April, humpback whales can be seen right from shore. Dolphins can be seen year-round. Birds abound on your own 5 acre property. Travel just a little farther afield for outstanding birding at the ocean shore and upcountry. There is a 1000ft deep lava tube cave on the property (experienced cavers only).
